Even Republican "God" Ronald Reagan support the ban on assault weapons. I'm sure he still does. Bottom line, get these and other insanely dangerous weapons out of our neighborhoods and communities. Support politicians that support stronger gun safety laws. Thanks!

The letter below is dated May 3, 1994 is from three former presidents to the U. S. House of Representatives. Where today, unfortunately, Republican crazies are still in charge.

"To Members of the U.S. House of Representatives:

We are writing to urge your support for a ban on the domestic manufacture of military-style assault weapons. This is a matter of vital importance to the public safety. Although assualt weapons account for less than 1% of the guns in circulation, they account for nearly 10% of the guns traced to crime.

Every major law enforcement organization in America and dozens of leading labor, medical, religious, civil rights and civic groups support such a ban. Most importantly, poll after poll shows that the American public overwhelmingly support a ban on assault weapons. A 1993 CNN/USA Today/Gallup Poll found that 77% of Americans support a ban on the manufacture, sale, and possession of semi-automatic assault guns, such as the AK-47.

The 1989 import ban resulted in an impressive 40% drop in imported assault weapons traced to crime between 1989 and 1991, but the killing continues. Last year, a killer armed with two TEC9s killed eight people at a San Francisco law firm and wounded several others. During the past five years, more than 40 law enforcement officers have been killed or wounded in the line of duty by an assault weapon.

While we recognize that assault weapon legislation will not stop all assault weapon crime, statistics prove that we can dry up the supply of these guns, making them less accessible to criminals. We urge you to listen to the American public and to the law enforcement community and support a ban on the further manufacture of these weapons.

Two out of three Americans support banning assault weapons. Let's hope Congress has the guts to do our will and reinstate the ban ASAP.

Don't know where you are getting those numbers but I think your full of it. Most Americans don't want to be stripped of the 2nd Amendment rights. The assault rifle ban did not work the first time around and disarming american citizens who are not breaking the law is not the way to stop these violent shootings.

left office in 89 diagnosed with Alzheimer in 1994.
Odd thing is Reagan was very INACTIVE in politics after he left office, he just wanted to ride his horse. They say he also asked congress for the bills as president yet I never saw a video of him doing it. Are we to believe that Reagan asked a Liberal Congress for a Liberal bill and didn't get it? How odd. We have to remember that presidents do more the they actually do. They have handlers that send letters and respond to things.
Sorry I don't care what anyone says, Reagan didn't care about "military style weapons"

But I do believe that an AK-47, a machine gun, is not a sporting weapon or needed for defense of a home.''. I interpret from his emphasis on the words,"A MACHINE GUN", he meant automatic weapons.

I think it should be legal for everyone to be allowed to carry an RPG for self-defense. In that way, if some brings an assault weapon (which is legal) near you, you can always pull out your RPG or bazooka. While we are at it, would it be nice to have a tank or two at every school, mall and movie theater?
