I would like to know when the issue of whether to buy the Gilman waterfront property was brought to a vote at a Council meeting. I have several friends who regularly attend City Council meetings and none of them recall the issue coming to a vote. In fact, I have yet to find anyone who recalls the issue being discussed at Council meetings. What gives? Was this $1.3M purchase made as a result of a vote during an open meeting or not?

If you can't find it, request it from the City Clerk.....If she doesn't have it then perhaps it may be an illegal deal, don't know since I'm not an attorney, but sounds reasonable that a vote would have to be counted in order to purchase this property, and not a secret vote....Sunshine Kills Mold

I am still trying to figure out why I am paying city and county taxes...first time I have ever had to do this and it's a bit odd.

On Monday can you ask when they plan to bring in real jobs that pay more than minimum wage?

Well, if "they" bring in an employer whose activity produces more than a microgram of "pollutants," won't you be right out there with the Kearns' Earthkeeprs filing suits to keep them and their good jobs out?

Folks it's high time little ole St Marys( notice I did not spell out St) figured out what we want to be.
Should not be that difficult, except for most of city council has "Pie in the Sky" plans to:
Get rid of the Airport?
P*ss away 1.3 MILLION dollars on a property they could have bought for 1/3,BUILD A CONVENTION CENTER and a dog park.(my dog says that's a good idea)
Just what drugs are they doing?
Hello!!!!
Convention center and airport= good deal
NO airport and convention center= JAX International Airport and Amelia Island will get all the "convention" business
I'll tell you, take a vote ,(if they dare)ask the citizens(and dogs) what we want.....

When was this topic brought up for discussion at any of the "open" council meetings? I've been out of town and can't seems to get an honest answer from anyone. I was told "there was no closed-door meetings" on the purchase prior to the vote. Yes, and I live at the North Pole. Cover blown. Felonious act illuminating the skies over St. Marys. I'm all for improving our city, but not without input from the citizens. Moral: St. Marys Mayor cannot be trusted.

The only thing that is wrong is you had a choice not to buy in this popo hole. If you had check it out you could have purchased in an area that makes a difference.

Once the gambling starts in Jacksonville and Orange Park you can forget this area it will become a slum like other areas that have gambling. Atlantic City, NJ
Fox Wood, Conn. Cherokee, NC Check out the areas around them all slums. St. Marys and Kingsland will be the same. The Cards have been passed out.

Doesn't the city lose almost $30,000 a year having an airport for the 18 people who rent a spot to house their plane? I like the idea of having an airport but it must be able to sustain itself without using our tax dollars.

The airport is totally self sufficient and costs the taxpayers nothing.

There is an $8,000 cos to the taxpayers for the city to see if they can buy that swampland and put an airport on it. (outside the city)(at no expense to the taxpayers)uh, huh.

What tribe would that be? Will the DDA move beyond manufacturing scarecrows and produce indigenous Indians?

That's the best idea I have heard all month. HaHa!
I would add that I have quite a few friends who live at Osprey Cove who do not support the ideology of the currently elected regime. They, too, would like to become citizens again instead of subjects. You know, a few bad apples can spoil the whole damned bunch. Osprey Cove is a very nice neighborhood with many decent people. Unfortunately, none of them ran for office!
