and who is your source, considering I work for the aforementioned companies, and have heard of no such rumor?

Question: Who is the Boss Contractor now ?
Question: Who is was the Boss Contractor ?
Question: How many people quite rather than be laid off ?
Question: What is the total number of these and laid off workers ?

I suspect Ridge Road does not want to disclose the source for fear of retaliation
would you not agree ?
Highly skeptical

The fact is that his statement is not true. The Bosc contractor is the company that takes care of the base wide services such as air conditioning, welding, capentry, electrical work, etc. There have been no layoffs with The Shaw Group or with LM or NG. There is a POSSIBLITY of potential layoffs due to the approching fiscal cliff, but that will be decided by Congress and The Sentate.

Downtown needs some support, if we could build up downtown and get some interest there that would be a great starting point. As it stands there is no promotion and next to no activities ever going on downtown. What about that great stage at the downtown waterfront how often is that put to use? Not to mention Orange Hall, what a waste...
You are so right! And now they've torn down the Gilman house which was a sound structure and could have been utilized with a little remodelling and maintenance. We don't have a beach immediate to St. Marys like Fernandina or Golden Isles but we do have the river and Cumberland. What we lack is visual appeal downtown such as Fernandina somehow manages to maintain year in and out.

Why is it that no one has ever thought of utilizing the river on festival days such as a river race? With people here from all over the country, surely some of them have ideas they've brought with them.

Most restaurants close within the first eighteen months of business but downtown St. Marys HAD a better than average track record for success before the Great Recession.

Downtown thrived when the mill was open. Everyone went downtown to have lunch and many people went downtown to have supper on the weekends. When the mill closed, downtown closed. So many outsiders applauded and cheered when the stinky mill closed. But that stinky mill employed a lot of people who kept downtown humming. It's amazing what jobs will do to an area. It's amazing what roof tops won't do for an area.

Really?

So downtown was "humming" between August 3rd, 1993, when I moved here, and the day the mill closed? Perhaps you have a way lower threshold for qualifying for the descriptor "humming." I always thought it simply sucked. Moreover, it specialised in sucking on the St. Marys tax teat.

Must agree with Moreno. DAMN! Boating out of downtown St. Mary since 86. The only thing humming was swarms of sandnats. The Mill never put a penny into improvements.

Peas & Carrots is opening for breakfast, begining tomorrow, 12/11/2012.

This from today on their Facebook page:

"We will now be opened for Breakfast beginning Tuesday. Our hours will be 7-10:30. Please help us spread the world by sharing with your friends. Thanks for the support we will see y'all soon."

Do them and youself a favor. Don't let these folks go out of business. Their current location sucks but their food is GREAT!

Between breakfast, lunch, and supper, you should be able to make it down there. Trust me, you will wish you had gone sooner. Best Southern home cooking and lowest prices on the county for full service, AYCE.
