Welcome home, Jut. See if you can get Jay to shut up. Or at least take his meds.

At the very instant that I was about to pull the trigger, a very commanding voice down in the street yelled "Freeze!!" That was followed immediately by the sound of the charging handles on three M-16s racking being racked back and released.
When the attacking Marines looked down, they all quickly hauled ass.
Standing below the bunker, at the 9:00 o'clock position, was Sgt. Brown, the sergeant of the guard, and three Marines with locked and loaded M-16's at the ready. Sgt. Brown had drawn both of the .45s he always carried in a cross-draw fashion. He had busted so many dopers that they had a bounty on his head. The attackers knew him well and knew not to f*ck with him.
Standing behind Sgt. Brown was HM2 Dave Campbell who had run down to the guard shack to alert Sgt. Brown to the situation at the medical bunker.

Once all the attacking Marines had fled back to their berthing area, Sgt. Brown, a buddy of ours, said, "Okay, Doc, come on down."
He and the three Marines from the guard shack escorted us into the medical bunker.

A few minutes later, a newbie butter bar none of us had ever seen before showed up. He was the command duty officer for the night.
He had us all write statements of what had transpired.

As he was about to leave with the statements, he decided that he should take my pistol as "evidence." When I protested that we might be subject to further attack during the night, he blew it off and insisted that my pistol was "evidence." What an idiot!

Not a problem. I surrendered my pistol. Just as soon as the fool was out the door, I retrieved the old, WWII era, "grease gun" that we had.

So,there we were, me, HM2 Campbell, Sgt. Sweet, and Cpl. Allard, a loyal Marine friend of ours , who joined us in solidarity. We spent the night awake, armed, and anticipating a frag attack.

Isn't it obvious? He dreams about this stuff and then convinces himself into believing it.

I think the sight of a gun on one's hip is just motivation for the bad guy to walk up and shoot you in the back of the head.

He's a squid, it's a sea story. Did you hear him say "Once upon a time?"

About 0200 HRS, we heard a knock on the front door of the bunker.

Of course, our first thought was that they had wired a short spooled grenade so that it would be tripped when we opened the door.

I took the .45 caliber "grease gun" and went out the side door.

Our front door was at the end of a short protruding enclosure, much like on a traditional igloo.

When I had sneaked around to the front, I could make out a Marine, wearing nothing but his skivvies, standing at the front door.

I sneaked up behind him and jabbed the barrel of the grease gun into the base of his spine.

It turned out that the guy had gotten drunk early, gone to bed early, and knew nothing of the attack. He had severe heartburn - probably from eating pickled pigs feet at the club earlier.

After we treated him, dawn finally arrived with no further incidents. However, the whole thing was far from over.

The next morning, a crazy, mustang Marine captain came by sickbay.
I forget his name. He was famous for climbing up utility poles in the middle of the night - complete with lineman climbing spikes - and using a starlight scope to try to catch Marine dopers or E-5s and below drinking hard liquor.

He wanted me to come down to the Ordinance Maintenance Platoon area and try to identify my attackers.

After a short walk, we arrived to find the whole platoon already in ranks at open ranks. The captain and I and the platoon gunny walked the ranks like during an inspection.

I could not positively identify any of them. That was either because it had been dark or they knew damned well who they were and had hidden them.

The next day, after that little dog and pony show, I was summoned to the H&S office hooch.
