Sure enough, I looked down in the street to see that Marine on a dead run back to his hooch to get his M-16.
At that, my fellow corpsman, Dave Campbell, who was a track star in high school and college, ran down the backside of the bunker and took off like a rocket.
That left Sgt. Sweet standing behind me and twenty or so Marines in front of me and trying to encircle me.
I started slowly backing up so that I could see the outermost Marines in the encircling movement out of my peripheral vision.
I knew that I could not let them get their hands on the pistol with so much as one round left in it. I would have no choice, when it came to it, but to shoot 6 of them dead.
to be continued
As I was slowly backing up, one Marine to my immediate left front lunged forward. I managed to stiff arm him pretty hard in the nose with my left hand. He backed off.

At this point, I still had the pistol in my right hand at raised pistol.

As I continued to inch backwards, I tripped over a length of 4 X 4 timber that I had forgotten was laying there.

I quickly regained my balance but just as I did, a Marine managed to grip my extended left wrist with both hands.

Who knows. I think it is just a ploy to get people to look at your FB page so you can see who they are. Not me.

Almost immediately, the nearest Marine to my right front - the same loud mouth who had said I did not have the balls to shoot any of them. Took a step towards me, obviously intent on disarming and no doubt killing me.

I was faster.

I find it hard to believe that none of the Marines who having just came in from the field did not have a weapon. But do continue....

No, A-hole. The Marine yelled "Ordinance Maintenance Platoon, front and center." They were not the grunts who had just come in from the field.

The were one of the platoons right there on base and part of my command, Force Logistics Support Group- Bravo. Strangely enough, they maintained ordinance - i.e, 105 Howitzers, 4 deuce mortars, BMGs, etc.

They were not armed when they went to the club on their base.

None of the grunts fresh from the field participated in the attack. My guess is they had more respect for corpsmen than those dope head, boozing, non-combatant REMFs who attacked us.

I immediately lowered the pistol and placed the muzzle right between his eyes. He froze and got very wide eyed.

I knew that I had to first blow his brains out, then head-tap the Marine latched onto my left arm, then take out four more before running out of ammo and using the pistol as a club.

...and then, remembering my weapon of choice in my youth, I hit them with a fistful of bananas. Once my deadly Chiquitas felled them, I bored them into an early grave by reciting my restaurant reviews. One poor slob tried to crawl away so I whacked him into submission with my purse.
The crowd went wild, chanting "You the man, Jay!". Then they placed me upon their shoulders and carried me to the nearest bordello...but I didn't know what to do there so I went back to my tent and dreamed of the day when I could move to a small Southern town and do my damndest to become the Official Village Idiot.

Now Jay by your own story the grunts who just came in from the boonies looking like a line of ants with the ones in front carrying skulls, went straight to the club for beer. Having run out of beer to drink out of said skulls, destroyed the club. Now we learn that the attackers of you were Marines who were in your base already! So the attackers most likely knew you or of you, with you being one of the few medics on this base. And now these Marines want to kill someone who is there to save their life if and or when they become injured. Just what did you do to piss them off so much? But do continue.

In 1969, there was not a volunteer force. All were either draftees or, in many cases, guys who were given a choice by their hometown judge: go to jail or go down to the recruiters offices and sign up.
I had done nothing to piss them off. Many were simply scum.

By the way, idiot, damned nearly all the Marines on base were at the club every night.

At the very instant that I was about to pull the trigger, a very commanding voice down in the street yelled "Freeze!!" That was followed immediately by the sound of the charging handles on three M-16s racking being racked back and released.

When the attacking Marines looked down, they all quickly hauled ass.

Standing below the bunker, at the 9:00 o'clock position, was Sgt. Brown, the sergeant of the guard, and three Marines with locked and loaded M-16's at the ready. Sgt. Brown had drawn both of the .45s he always carried in a cross-draw fashion. He had busted so many dopers that they had a bounty on his head. The attackers knew him well and knew not to f*ck with him.

Standing behind Sgt. Brown was HM2 Dave Campbell who had run down to the guard shack to alert Sgt. Brown to the situation at the medical bunker.

Scum or not, why would they want to kill someone who is there to help save them. If the grunts from the boonies went straight to the club, where were their weapons? Stacked at the door like cord wood? Were you yelling at them that they were not destructing the club in the proper manner? Please fill in the blanks and continue.

Try to concentrate.

None of the grunts were involved in the attack. That's twice.

As to what he grunts did with their weapons, I have no idea. We could not see the outdoor seating area on the other side of the club. Perhaps they were told to go back to their hooches and secure their weapons before they would sell them any beer.

We were simply sitting there observing. Never said a word to the jarheads.

So, having destroyed the club for running out of beer, the hopped-up grunts were milling about.
One of them saw us atop the bunker, silhouetted by the sunset, drinking sodas from cans.
Assuming we had be, one grunt ran up the side of the bunker, tearing the green, woven plastic
sandbags in the process.
When he reached the top, he demanded we share out beer with him. I showed him that we were drinking sodas and had no beer. I then told him to try not to tear any more sandbags on the way down.
He promptly ran down into the street and yelled "Ordinance Maintenance Platoon, front and center! We gonna do a job on the squids!
to be continued (Yes, I could write more but I love effing with you A-holes!)

So explain this hopped up "grunt". I must assume that you have confused this "marine" with the grunts who returned from the boonies....So who did attack you? The grunts, the marines or are they the one and the same. Why would someone "the Ordinance Maintance Platoon" destroy their club? I can understand the grunts from the field doing this, but not a regular at the base.

Too tired right now, but I'll continue the story tomorrow.
