There they were running around the Camden County Courthouse: pied pipers at the head and their followers behind. Petitions in hand they wondered eyes fixed on their leaders. Today is the day of resolution they thought. The Grand Jury said otherwise. This is St Marys own political mess. You sort it out. St Marys can't even decide if it wants plurality or majority voting. So they pay attorneys to go one way and then the other. They elect a Mayor and city Council and then will not let them serve. Such stupidity boggles the mind. The only thing left is to relax and LOL.

Can't wait until the law suits come against the council and mayor personally.

Jackson's report once again got it wrong. The people chose not to present on the final day of the sitting grand jury but to wait until the incoming jury is in place. It was their choice so they took the logical route. God only knows what the mayor, the city attorney and the city manager thought they could accomplish by being there...other than just another waste of taxpayer's money.

Who okayed the legal-eagle's expense for that? Come on DeLoughy. Over 950 petition-signers and a couple of council members want to know!

I don't think St Mary's mayor or council was invited as Grand Juries are closed. I was not there but Jay's mole was. Why did not the city attorney advise the mayor it was not open. What a waste of money.

The article was not wrong. Read the article. Now read it again. If you don't see your mistake then ask someone to help you; maybe your wife or one of your children.

Where should I start, Jay?

The headline "Camden grand jury delays petitions about St. Marys government". No, the jury did not delay the presentation: the presenters chose to begin with a new jury next month in that this one was on their final day and over-burdened.

"A Camden County grand jury declined to hear St. Marys residents who went to the courthouse Wednesday with a 1,000 signatures on a petition and documents outlining what they said are questionable and possible illegal acts by the St. Marys City Council." - Wrong again: they were free to present or to wait until the new jury was assembled. They chose the latter.

"The grand jury said it had a full schedule and told residents to wait until a new grand jury is empaneled around Nov. 1, said Jim Stein" Wrong again: Stein didn't say that because that is not what happened.

"Stein said the grand jury agreed it would be better to wait until a new grand jury convenes before making a presentation." Wrong: it was completely up to the citizens. Stein did not say this.

"Deloughy said he and other city officials went to the courthouse in case the grand jury heard the presentation. "We had the right to show up and present our side," he said. "I just want to get this cleared." Wrong yet again (this time DeLoughy was in error and you have to wonder why the city attorney isn't up on grand jury proceedings. They don't have the right to be there until such a time as there is an effort to indict them).

Ask our illustrious city officials why the group of citizens had made their decision to hold off until the next session and were on the road home by 10:00 but they (Deloughy, Shanahan, & Attny. Moore) hung around until 11:00. How many hours did we pay the attorney for this sham court appearance that never happened? When did the city council vote to use the city attorney for this?
Why is it that our cartoon mayor, when faced with a petition containing the signatures of almost 1000 angry citizens, still thinks he is being picked on by a dissident few?

May I suggest that the folks continue gathering signatures on the petition until the last day before it goes to the Federal Grand Jury.

I am hearing FBI is already here. I wonder if there is any true in it ?

I wish St. Marys would get it act together. It is costing business in the area. I know several people that have changed their minds about moving here and plan to move on the Florida side when they return to the area.

Going to Woodbine was another sickening (though amusing) display of immaturity and arrogance on the part of the mayor (I guess the attorney didn't tell them that they couldn't enter chambers. Why would he when there's money to be made?). It was clearly just a feeble show of intimidation and everyone knew it. So the three of them were left to sit on a bench and cool their heels for a while. Unfortunately it was at the taxpayer's expense since DeLoughy chose to drag Moore there with him.
You owe us for that, Mr Mayor. Just like you owe the citizens for the money wasted on the airport scheme, the boathouse ideation, the funds wrongly taken from the Gaines David community.....the list goes on.

Interesting, I heard there may have already been talk with someone in the Attorney General's office, and that the petition was headed toward the feds. I heard that whatever documentation there is meets federal guidelines, but it is all hearsay and I'm not mentioning any names. 8

It's all politics!! A Grand jury would be stupid to even let them in the door. And yes to those of you who lack Grand Jury knowledge they can refuse to hear any of it !!!!

Hey Mr Mayor, you might want to read the First Amendment some time. The right to petition allows citizens to focus government attention on unresolved ills; provide information to elected leaders about unpopular policies; expose misconduct, waste, corruption, and incompetence; and vent popular frustrations without endangering the public order. It is the right to seek the assistance of one's government without fear of punishment or reprisals.

I would have thought that any elected official in this country would know that. "Punishment and reprisals"...oh, like the needless and paranoid waste of taxpayer's money on a pet attorney, threatening "punishment" for the Republican Party, a laughable attempt at intimidation by showing up at the courthouse with your minions in tow and subjecting citizens to rabid rants in Council chambers? Tsk, tsk.

And where were you, oh brave one, during the corruption and malfeasance of past St Marys administrations? Your chain was pulled by what recent event? Everyone in the city knows and no one is fooled by this display of sudden concern for a better government in St Marys. Stay out of city business fool.

Unfortunately, the fools who should be out of city business are sitting on the platform facing the citizens at every City Council meeting. It isn't unusual, in a democracy, for a second rate candidate to win an election. Usually, they are a minority and are over ruled by a more level headed majority. The St. Marys Council is at the height of a perfect storm of mediocrity. We, the voters, are as much or more at fault as are the council members. We consistently elected less than the best. Too often it was because the best have been reluctant to run.

1000 voters have signed a petition expressing their disgust with our council and mayor. This is a rising ground swell that will eventually sweep them out of office. It will take almost four years to get rid of all of them. It will be four years of diligence and hard work. We have to recruit good candidates and get behind them. We have to keep up the fight for the sake of our city.

The earth is flat eh? 1000 petitioners would say so, well Annie, take the petition.
