Section 8 housing is a sucker game. Look at the areas that have stopped section 8 housing in our own back yard, Jekyll Island, Sea Island, St. Simons Island and Little Cumberland Island.

How many section 8 housing do they have on Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket, and Block Island ?
How many of these places have nasty old airports ?

Just how much lying crap do we have to put up with Bill DeLoughy ? "We have to let them have the
permits."

Want to turn St. Marys and Camden around deny section 8 building permits in Camden until all the housing surplus is filled up.

How would you do that? It is a federal program, right?

I grew up in Miami back in the early 1950's went to high school in North Miami and graduated from high school in 1957. We ran a small business in the area. In the 1960's I watched as the apartments on 6th Ave from 135 Street to 167 street where we lived taken over one by one and turned into government housing for the Cubans fleeing Castro.

Today those apartments are using today term for them section 8 housing. The Cubans have long ago moved and several groups of the island folks moved in and out. Today they are full of people from Haiti.

Once the Government took over the apartments new ones were also built in and back of the existing ones. Making my home town a very busy slum full of french speaking people.

Saint Simons, Jeckyll, and Sea Island (attached to St. Simons) all have airports much like St. Marys' airport, and they are very important to the success of their economies. Are you mentally challenged?

The Afro-American Life Insurance Company was a historic business based in Jacksonville, Florida It was founded in 1901 by me, Abraham Lincoln Lewis and his business associates. The Company is responsible for the creation of American Beach in Nassau County, Florida.

In 1980's the Daughter of the company became upset along with the rest of the American Beach folks that some developer wanted to put section 8 housing close to the American beach area close to a fire Department located near the street going to American Beach. The development was stopped.

Why can't we get the same kind of co-operation from the black community in St. Marys ? Like the rest of us I don't see a good side to building anymore section 8 housing in a area that has no job openings.

The sword of Damocles is threatening imminent harm to Camden by the budget cuts coming out of Washington reported by CNN at 4:39 PM today. I think no action is the way it is going to happen. NO more section 8 housing for St. Marys we are going into another round of foreclosures.

I'll never for get the first time I saw the "daughter" you refer to.

I was with a girlfriend down on the waterfront in Jax watching several 4th of July afternoon performances by singers, bands, etc. We wwere sitting on the steps of that circilar kind of a pit a the Jax Landing.

I glanced over and saw this creature that looked like she had just walked off the set of a Star Trek movie. She was in a very theatrical, multi-colored, silk sarong looking get up. Her gray hair had apparently not been cut in decades. It was actually contained in a piece of fishing net and literally wrapped around her body like a python to keep it off of the ground.

After staring at her for a minute to make sure I was not seeing things, I asked Gail, "What in God's name is that?"

She laughed and said "Oh, that's just Malveeny.
She's one of our local crazies who lives over at American Beach."

My guess is that someone realized that any potential Section 8 residents would have taken one look at Malveeny and thought, "Oh, hell no. Not living here with that root woman."

Yes, she was a little spoiled and later in life she became eccentric may be a mild term for my little girl. And she's just about the most eccentric person I know.
The life of an eccentric isn't as satisfying as one might think it would be. It is hard work to keep up with all that hair and finger nails.

Point is she did not want a whole bunch of broke people in her little part of the island and they damn sure didn't get the permit to build them either.

Oh, yeah, I forgot about the curly, Ripley's Believe It Or Not fingernails. The irony of her objection to Section 8 housing was the small, squalid, travel trailer she lived in at American Beach.

In her obit, I seem to recall reading that she had once been a concert pianist who had performed all over Europe.

Regency Square, once the pride of Jacksonville, Florida now a struggling shopping center that may not make it.

The area became a victim of section 8 housing that beginning with the first section 8 apartment building on Fort Caroline Road damn things keep multiplying until the area became a disaster.

Today the shops struggle to make it. The area is passed by and most people have moved on. Security is a major issue. The Jacksonville Police dept. has a substation in the Shopping Center.

Please stop section 8 housing in our area and save it. We have a relatively safe area compared to other towns lets keep it that way. It does not have to go down to a slum. Demand an opportunity to vote for a county wide Government to save us. Centralized zoning and demand no more section 8 housing to be built will go a long ways to correct this issue.

You can thank Bill DeLoughy for opening these cans of worms. Now everyone is going to know how they get their kick backs. I hope enough Navy people will now get pissed off with him for pushing the closing of the airport and pissing off people that will expose how the Navy Exchange operates in a gray area.

Thank You Bill DeLoughy !

Here in fort worth texas is the same they give the sections eight people a choice where they want to live. Some people really need it but there are some that just take advantage of it they move them where ever they want and they make our communities unsave the state goverment should really check on them and give them an ultimatum if they don't stay of trouble they should take away that help they have from the state its not fair that they are living for free while they distroy our communities and its not fair for the people who really need it. Someone needs to put a stop to it or just relocate all of them somewhere else where they would have their own communitie. I am not agains helping people but their are some people who dont deserve it and they are just taking advantage of it and making it seem bad for the people who really need the help. Please someone do something about it we need to feel same and really help the ones who really deserve it......

Now we are going to raise your taxes to pay for the section 8 Apts that Bill DeLoughy demanded be given a permit to build 400+ units called Brentwood.

Now you property owners can pay for their children to go to school. We are going to teach you how to destroy a county.
