One of my former bosses said this the other day about our country's problems with guns. He's absolutely right and I happen to agree with him as do millions of others. We need to get guns out of our neighborhoods and communities. Too many of our families, friends and neighbors are dying daily. Please support political candidates that support stronger gun safety regulations and controls. Thanks!(quoted from a 1/8/13 Yahoo news article)

"Speaking on MSNBCs "Morning Joe" Tuesday, Retired Gen. Stanley McChrystal, the former commander of U.S. forces in Afghanistan, said some weapons should be carried only by soldiers, not civilians.

"I spent a career carrying typically either an M16, and later an M4 carbine," he said. "And an M4 carbine fires a .223 caliber round, which is 5.56 millimeters, at about 3,000 feet per second. When it hits a human body, the effects are devastating. It's designed to do that. And that's what our soldiers ought to carry."

The general added, "I personally don't think there's any need for that kind of weaponry on the streets and particularly around the schools in America. I believe that we've got to take a serious look. I understand everybody's desire to have whatever they want, but weve got to protect our children, weve got to protect our police, we've got to protect our population. And I think we have to take a very mature look at that."

The former military man told the show,I think serious action is necessary. Sometimes we talk about very limited actions on the edges, and I just dont think thats enough.

Asked what his message would be to the NRA and the House Judiciary Committee, he said,I think we have to look at legislation. The number of people in America killed by firearms is extraordinary compared to other nations. And I dont think were a bloodthirsty culture, and so I think we need to look at everything we can do to safeguard our people."

If you truly were a soldier then you know that the M-16 or the M4 were never designed to kill the were designed to wound but my guess is that if you did ever serve it was in a non-combatant role. You freaking POG. You think that removing weapons from law abiding citizens is the answer. If making something illegal will fixa problem then they should make drugs and murder illegal. Think about it.

When the government rids itself of criminal elements within its ranks and gets rid of crime and violence on the streets I will consider giving up my guns. But first the government and criminals must disarm too. Oh what a wonderful happy day that will be. We will all join hands and dance around the maypole and sing cumbayah.

But as long as the threat of crime against me and my family exist from any quarter; I will be prepared to defend against it.

Al Gore, now there is a government man from a government family for you. In bed with the enemy?

Instead of sniping at the messenger, why don't you respond to the message. "Vet" was quoting General McChrystal, a well respected retired General of the US Army.

Relying on the federal goverment (or state, or local goverments for that matter) to fix ANYTHING is a waste of time. I don't wan't the goverment 'fixing' my life. I want the goverment to fix itself FIRST. Leave me and my guns alone. We're NOT the problem.

...and vet, why don't you reply to anything? You post and then.... bail out.

Not after the rolling Stone interview. That's when he lost me. He is a true Obama-loving suck up. His thoughts mean nothing to me.

Psssssst.... I've got lot's of automatic weapons to sell, but I will only sell to criminals. Psssssst.....all the guns I sell will be untraceable.....

In my "government world" only the government and criminals should have guns. Serial killers and mass murderers make good gun owners and follow the law to the tee. Can't trust those law abiding citizen though. Homeowners who want guns to protect their families and homes can't be trusted either.

Just us government agents and criminals should have guns. And you know you can trust government and criminals.

Anon, sniping the messenger huh. In my opinion if you pass on a view you are just as dumb as those that said it. That is the problem with a lot of folks today, they don't take ownership of their words or their actions. If you support o spread stupid then stand by tobe catergorized with them.

I have before, up to and including last week on another gun post, but then the message changes to about me or something I've said or done or not done, etc. The accusations fly along with the hate comments and the message is lost in the clutter. In other words, it becomes shoot the messenger and disregard the message. So I'm going to just post as I see fit and for the most part ignore the attempt to change the message.
