Jim Gant is chairman of the 100 Ready Street Steering Committee. According to the published list, his wife, Lorna, is on the Grand Jury. That panel is considering presentments regarding possible questionable activities by the St Marys city council and Alyce Thornhill preceding the purchase of the property. Should she recuse herself?

Perhaps she should be trundled off to a guillotine in the Gilman Memorial Waterfront Park as a warning to others, eh, comrades?

Absolutely. She accompanied her husband to the last city council meeting when he presented the case for the city to commit $50,000 for the Gilman Boathouse grant.

Thus speaks the mouthpiece for the conflict of interest whackos. They tried repeatedly to convict Bird on a trumped up conflict charge and now they want to behead Lorna Gant. I'm sure that the Grand Jury knows how to conduct their business in an ethical manner and Ms. Gant is capable of objectivity. Neither needs Moreno's advise.

The same case could be made if any of the signers of the petition were on the Grand Jury. Should they recuse themselves?

It's all a moot point. Absolutely nothing will come of the Nutter Buddies' grand jury presentment.

I think it would be the proper thing to do.

Her husband made a very large pay check when the city park was built. He was the moving force for the contracted company to do the engineering work.

His company (he worked for) made a considerable amount of money. That little park cost over 3 1/2 million dollars to build. I considered it to be excessive at the time.

Wendy (Mrs. Jim) Steele is reportedly on the grand jury as well.

Her husband, Jim Steel, owner of K-Bay radio, is on the airport authroity and has voted repeatedly to not move the airport, sue the city, etc., etc.

Let me guess: you insurgent anarchists have no problem with that "conflict-of-interest, " right?

a ST Marys politician wouldn't now what the phrase means. Here's the definition according to Webster:" a conflict between the private interests and the official responsibilities of a person in a position of trust". Let me break it down for you, Deb Hase is a realtor, she wants the airport to move, she will get paid (under the table) for helping accomplish this so that St Marys will have even more vacant space waiting for businesses and house that will never materialize. Awaiting Deb's pr man Moreno to respond.

If an elected official is going to get paid under the table (no proof of course - pure hatefilled libel), their profesion in private life is totally irrelevant, if you think about it.

Why would her holding a real estate license make her more likely to accept a bribe?

Why would she be any more likely than, God forbid, a Councilman Nutter or a Councilwoman Comrade Kearns?

To Jim Gant is chairman of the 100 Ready Street Steering Committee.
When will we, the stupid tax payers from the sub/divisions, be allowed to use our boathouse property? Why are some citizens allowed to use the property and other citizen not allowed to use this public property? Are the people useing the property now paying for that use? How much are they paying to use the property?
These are serious questions Mr. Gant, you need to answer them?

Jim Steel e-mails Jay Moreno to set the record straight.

Dear Mr. Moreno,

I am writing you concerning the above text which you posted on the St.
Marys Topix board today. It concerns me because taken out of context, it unfairly distorts and mischaracterizes my record on matters related to the airport relocation issue. To wit, I have never, ever "voted repeatedly to not move the airport." That is pure sophistry. In fact, not one member of the Airport Authority, past or current, has ever formally voted on or passed any official resolution on the airport relocation issue within the context of Airport Authority meeting.
Granted each member may have his personal views on the subject, but there has never been an Authority "vote" to move or not move 4J6.
Stepping away from the Airport Authority, I have stated publicly and on the record (when I served as Chair of the Camden Chamber, for example), that I supported the concept of relocating the St. Marys Airport. So while I personally thought the Billyville site was not necessarily the best relocation site for a new airport, I nonetheless have no issues with Council in its desire to relocate the St Marys Airport.

As to the "sue the city" text, technically true but misleading. The first suit came when Council attempted to exercise four of the five sitting members of the Authority. I was the one member that Council choose not to remove but in reading the enabling legislation of the Airport Authority, it became abundantly clear to me that Council had failed to provide any reasonable due process or justifiable cause for dismissal other than ideological differences of opinion. On that basis I joined the Authority majority to seek judicial relief as a matter of principle. As you know, the Court ruled for the Authority and subsequently both side were able to effectively resolve the issue amicably.

In the other suit, basically the Airport Authority sought to determine what jurisdiction, if any, it had with respect to being included in the site selection process, pre-planning, and construction of a new St.
Marys Airport. My position on the Authority was that our mission was to operate and manager the airport (wherever it is located); moving it and all that entails was not within our purview. That having been said, I joined the majority to proceed within the judicial system because as far as I could see, this was the only way the matter of jurisdiction could be completely put to rest once and for all; allowing both side to move on without any further distractions. The Courts held in favor of the City of St. Marys and I am totally good with that too.

As to the "etc., etc.," I am not sure what that specifically refers but again, out of context it doesn't sound flattering and thus the ambiguity is not appreciated. While I do review the Topix pages for local news tips and community buzz, I am do post to any of these boards so this is why I have chosen your personal email to communicate my concerns of truth and accuracy to you. In short, this is as far as it goes for me but if you have any further questions about my positions of issues of community importance, I would really appreciate your contacting me first before posting misinformation and half-truths.

With best regards,

I would not presume to put words into Mr. Steel's mouth, but I'm fairly certain he was going for "exorcise" when he typed "exercise."

Bird's wife did not make $100,000.00 of dollars off the Airport ! Lorna's Husband did make big bucks off the City Park when he worked for Haskell and Company. The Conflict is very real. I would not want to be in lorna position on this issue and I think she will get out of the Gand Jury on this one. She is a smart women and Jim is a reasonable man they will not want this on their heads.

If we assume that your facts concerning Mr. Gant and the existing Gilman Park are more or less accurate, what relevance does that have on his serving on the steering committee for the boathouse property? It seems to me that that would make him an excellent choice. Where is the conflict
in that? Does he stand to make more money if his wife votes out a no bill the insurgent silliness along with all the other grand jurors? How?

What, exactly, is it that "they will not want on their heads?"
