Just read Spencer's letter in today's paper. Obviously he's planning to run for a seat on council again and is willing to throw us all under the bus by try to get people to vote against SPLOST VII. Some people just care more about making noise and pretending to be revolutionaries than they do about the taxpayers.

Maybe Spencer, Nutter, and Kearns could run for council and Bab's Ryan for mayor.

This thread is about SPLOST VII, Jay, not your own weird fixations. (By the way, Kearns and Nutter are both vocal proponents of VII).

Jay, I did and this is what I gather from SPLOST. If ya had the right people in office that would keep their word, ya/st.marys would not be in the crap tank they are in. I could care less if St.Marys gives Gaines Davis the sewer but to take 1% from me to do it sounds like alot of what Obama wants to do take from the ones that spent what they could pay for Kingsland,Woodbine and county.
And that BS about the tourist are gonna pay 12-15%. Then lests put it in a tax district 98% of tourist money is spent withen 1 mile of I95 so I the tourist dollars is all you want. then the only tax raise is within 1 mile of 95.
Straight up if the county wants me to start buying local again the elected will bite the bullet make tough choices and do what they need to and stop looking for more money to blow.

And ya can sit and say how dumb I am and I dont care its all math when it comes to dollars. my house is paid for all 3 company trucks have a zero balance my daughter is in last semister of college with no student loans. So I think I did OK as a parent and working person. And out of all my years in camden county I think ya have the worst in office over there.

It's a crying shame ya are wanting a bail out

OK, I thought I could stay out of this but I can't. Here's the bottomline about what will occur should SPLOST be voted down.

For St. Marys property owners your millage rate will go from 5.351 mils to 9 mils. That is a 67.5% increase in your property tax rate. I can;t speak for what the millage increase will be for Kingsland, Woodbine, or the County, but you rest assured these rates will go up as well.

Again, for St. Marys, if SPLOST fails your water and sewer rate will go up. Based on a recent comment by a leading city official that rate increase could be 35% to 40%.

So, and average homeowner's property tax could go from $1,000 to $1,675 per year.

Your average water and sewer bill of $100 per month could go up to $135 to $140 per month or am increase of $420 to $480 per year.

Add these two numbers together you could be spending as much $1,155 more each year!!

Now compare that to a one penny SPLOST. If the average family spends $30,000 per year on food, gas, clothing school supplies or what have you, the one penny sales tax is equal to $300.

So, citizens your choice is and increase of $1,155 per year or a conuation of SPLOST that might cost you $300 per year. Do the math and figure our what is the responsible path to choose for you and your family.

Pass the SPLOSTVII. my wife and family lover the trips to Hotlanta and Washington D.C.. Those steak and lobster dinners and fine dining have them hooked. They are already telling me if I have to run for reelection. The more SPLOST tax revenue the better my family can live when we travel and the more we can travel

I tell you boy I will. I love them $12.00 mixed drinks at government tax payer expense.

I would appreciate for a starter your analysis of the mill rate increase to 9. A spreadsheet with numbers would be more than helpful. Thank you.

Speaking your words you dont know about the others yet you want us to suffer the pain St.Marys caused.
Anyone with common sense know taxes are going to go up.The conty and all 3 city workers need a cost of living raise.Hell in 1979 my first car gas was 89 cents. Yet by your math st marys tax will nearly double. You explain to me why everyone else living in the county should suffer the same pain as st.marys.

you talk about spending 30k in a year now do math and try 40k per truck 15 for a car 26k on a boat motor and trailer. thats a total of 161k for Splost6.

The City of St.Marys wanted all this growth ya built for it and it just never showed up. I don,t need or won't ya's problems.

For everyone else in the county the only millage rate I have heard about is with the BOE.

I'm not sure why you are replying to me in response to another poster.

By the way, my inderstanding is tha the state does not keep tracxk of where sales taxes come from within a county in terms of county and city boundaries.

If that is true, then where the majority of SPLOST taxes are collected is a moot point.

It is further made moot by the fac tthat by law, if the county governement decides to keep 100% for county projects, they can. They are not obligated to share at all.

However, in point of fact, they have always slit the SPLOST revenues roughly along the lines of the populations of the county and the three cities, respectively.

I hope this explanation of how SPLOST actually works will help you realize that your entire post was nonsensical relative to the facts of the matter.

I had the pleasure of being in the company of Steve Howard, Mike Fender and several of their protégés. All very educated and might I say good company. They are planning on the SPLOST failing. Their reasoning makes pretty good sense.

They claim that had we not been voting for probate judge, we would likely of only had a turnout of 10-15%. With the other added they are expecting a turnout of closer to 35% with a majority of them being republicans who have traditionally voted down SPLOST.

If this is true, all I can say is thank god. If this is how we are going to pay our bills then we are in trouble. We have to live within our means and that means no SPLOST as a property tax supplement.

The perfect political climate to vote down a tax, vote in a new elected official, higher voter turn out among the true conservative base in county, and dissatisfaction with local governance. SPLOST, my hope, will fail and should help to coalesce a new thinking among the electorate.
