I can't believe I wasted 4 hours of my life watching this horrible and pathetic event. And Paul McCartney ending it with an off tune version of "Hey Jude" finished me off.

It is no wonder that the Queen had her mouth puckered up like a chicken's ass throughout the entire ceremony.

McCartney sounded worse than he looked. I think he needed to change his Depends.

That whole "spectacle" was a mess. The only way it could have been worse is if the "Stones' had come out and "wrinkled up the place".

I loved every minute of it! Can't imagine anyone hating it. The U.S. participants looked great---- even if their clothing was made in China!! Felt very proud when they made their appearance.

I rather liked it, at least up through the part where the Olympic rings were in place. Celebrating the NHS? Really?

I particularly liked them starting the show with the children singing "Jerusalem" as the workers came down from Glastonbury Tor. Very nice symbolism.

Humanity is still in debt to the British for the Industrial Revolution. They are responsible for the greatest single leap forward in improving the health and wealth of humanity since the taming of fire.

I liked the part when they lit up the big letters NHS in the stadium. And then they brought out all the lit up beds with the kids jumping up and down on them. And they had all the hot nurses dancing around.

And then I thought, "How the hell does this relate to the Olympics"?

I especially found it interesting that my friend's wife is from great Britain and she hates the health care system back home. She is forever putting it down and saying how lucky we are to have our great health care in this country.

Then why was the industrial revolution put in such a bad light? The whole opening ceremony was just some multi-culti BS.

Good Point. Drawing attention to the successes of Free-Market Capitalism only points out abject failures of Socialism.

The Industrial Revolution was not without its drawbacks. The communist manifesto and other writings by Marx and Engels were a response to the problems they saw in a rapidly industrializing England. They got it wrong but being wrong has never stopped a socialist.

Free-Market Capitalism works every time it tried. It results in greater prosperity & freedom of choice, a cleaner environment, longer life, and greater overall happiness.

Notice that I use the term "Free-Market Capitalism" and not simply Capitalism. It is an important distinction. Markets must be free so that capital, labor, and products will flow to the point in the economy where they will do the most good and produce the greatest return. The key in all of this is the imagination and effort of the individual instead of the group.

This is what socialists hate the most because it points out the failure of Socialist. Therefore the individual must be denigrated and the group glorified. But what is a group? It is a collection of individuals. You can not lift up the group by tearing down its component parts. This is why Socialism fails.

Definitely the worst opening ceremony in history. Disjointed, dull, boring, and bizarre at times. I don't need to see a mutant baby lit up with dancing kids on their beds. Keep in mind, these kids were "ill" at first then all of a sudden they are dancers. The creepish Mary Poppins' swirling around to the terrible performance by McCartney took this show to the bottom. Mr. Bean, you're not funny and your skit was annoying. What a disaster!

I am from the Uk and though it was terrible. The inflatable baby freaked me and Paul McCartney was awful. Simply awful. But the lighting of the cauldron was cool!
