When will you stand up to the gun lobby? Whose child has to die next? Columbine, Virginia Tech, Aurora, Newtown, so on and so forth. Enough is enough.

Whose Constitutional Rights will be trampled on if the left disarms the American public?

Answer: Everyone's

It is easy to know when a soft tyranny turns hard. It is the moment when the people can no longer fight back.

The people's guns are protected so that they can used on tyrants who won't respect the freedom and liberties of the people they serve.

I'll sign up for this as soon as there is a plan to eliminate the sale of alcohol and tobacco. As sad as the shootings that you mention are, and the loss of life extreme, it is a drop in the bucket compared to the people both young and old who lose their lives each day in alcohol related accidents. And look at the lives lost to tobacco use. It costs this county billions in health care and the loss of life is staggering. If you are going to propose some plan to eliminate guns, then eliminate ALL threats to the people. What you are doing is trying to protect people from themselves. If all of the guns magically went away, people would still find a way to harm other people. Maybe not as easily, but there has recently been an arrest of a young man who made 17 bombs in Skoal cans. He was caught before he could use them, but my point is that if someone is mentally unstable enough to commit such an act, the lack of a firearm will just lead to more drastic and tragic measures. We have become too liberal. We put criminals on the street because it costs to much to lock them up. We have mentally ill people in our society that people notice, but "look the other way" until they do something drastic. Then everyone wants to blame the gun and not the shooter. If you want a utopia, then push for creating one. Ban anything that causes harm to people. Alcohol is useless. People get drunk, underage people get their hands on it, lives are lost, property damaged, innocent people die. Tobacco should have been banned and outlawed years ago. Create stricter driving laws. Make DUI a felony with one offense removing a persons license for a lifetime. Don't just advocate removing one perceived threat. Remove them all. Then you'll be somewhere. Until then, this whole gun control argument holds no water.

Why don't you have a chat with the parents of the TWENTY 6 and 7 year old killed at Newtown about whose rights have been trampled.

Then talk with the parents of the 565 children under 18 years old killed in 2011 (FBI stats).

After that, get back to us will ya. I'm 100-percent confident you're views about rights being trampled will have changed. Unless of course you're an idiot.

go ahead lonepalm, answer vet.

how many kids have to die before you'll give up your possessions? a hundred? a thousand? ten thousand?

are your cold impersonal possessions really more important than the life of one child? are you that self-centered and uncaring about others and your community and country? answer the man.

How about, oh say 3,500 per day for about 45 years? That is the number that are and have been killed by abortion.

You don't give a good God Damn about the lives of those children or any others. If you did you would be screaming about the daily deaths due to abortion.

This is one more cynical attempt to foist your political beliefs off on the nation at the cost of the rights of those you disagree with.

Why are you so hell bent on taking my cold impersonal possessions that have never and will never take an innocent life? At the same time you defend bloody abortionists that kill thousands of innocents daily. Hell of a hypocrisy you've got going on there.

You demand that I answer Vet. I did. Now I am demanding that you explain why you are so intent in violating your fellow American's Constitutional rights?

The Constitution must be taken as a whole. You can not pick and choose. The moment you do you forfeit all the protections of the document you so carelessly cast aside.

I, for one, don't give a god-damn about your views on abortion. The topic is guns and their use to kill children. Every time someone puts you on the spot with a question you can't answer, you rant about abortion. You have every right to your opinion, but I'm getting sick of you repeating it.

Anon, LonePalm has every right to write whatever he wants to in any thread he chooses. We are still a free society, I think!

While I am not a strict believer in abortion I agree with LonePalm when he questions how you can be for taking my weapons away because I might use them to kill someone yet you condone the stripping of a fetus from a womans body which in essence is the taking of a life.

As some one who has owned guns for 65 years I have never raised one in anger. However, my weapons give me comfort when I am waken from sleep by a strange noise. I can confidently walk into the hallway knowing that if there is an intruder in the house that double ought buckshot is not only a great equalizer but is an advantage. Even more comforting is the fact that my home owners insurance will pay to have the mess cleaned up.

Finally, if you are so sick of reading LonePalm, leave Topix or get a bucket.

As I said in my post, Lone P has every right to his opinion. But the looming gun control issue is ominous and critical and I believe that our politicians will pass some stricter gun laws if only to satisfy the voters. Constantly referring back to abortion statistics is going to be a considered argument.

We cannot deny that guns have been used by people to invade schools and murder children. We cannot condone this. We should try to stop, or at least limit, this killing. Incensed gun regulation may appear to be an easy fix but I do not think this will stop the killing.

What should be done to alleviate or guard against the possibility of mass slaughter of innocent people in schools and other public places?

More people are killed each day by medical mistakes and automobile accidents than are killed by guns.

Shall we outlaw doctors and cars?

I answered your and Vet's questions directly and specifically. I am not in favor of using either guns or surgical instruments to take an innocent life. You however, decry the former and approve the latter. This is utter and rank hypocrisy.

It is a great shame you are not as sick of the actual killing as you are hearing me talk about it.

Excellent! Victory!!! For once you got it right.

Even you don't think that stricter gun control laws will stop the killing. Then why pass them? Let's look at removing gun control laws which have a true statistical correlation to reducing crime and mass killings.

Want to drastically reduce your chances of being a victim of a mass murderer? Stay out of "Gun Free Zones".

The single best thing for stopping an evil person with a gun is a good person with a gun. Taking guns out of the hands of good people only facilitates evil.

The real problem is no mental health hospitals open anymore and the liberals too intimidated to have mentally ill people who are a threat to the public and themselves committed. They just don't think it's nice to do!!! The homeless population would also drop...alot of the homeless have mental health issues not being treated. Lock up violent criminals for good and commit those who are mentally ill.

we rightfully mourn the death of children yet we kill hundreds of thousands of them before birth and call it a choice. I am an athiest and the hypocrisy of crying out "save the children" to push a political agenda while advocating widespread use of abortion as contraception is laughable.

My guns haven't killed anyone. I haven't murdered any children. Why must my rights be infringed?
