Take a look at Victoria Landing.

A dozen or so lots left. Three spec houses avalable NOW.

Quiet neighorhood.

Good location.

Very energy effcient home.

3 to 5 bedroom plans.

Google Baytown Homes.

Oh, by the way, to get to Victoria Landing, turn off of Colerain onto Mickler. The original Krayon's Academy sits right there on the corner.

Come on down Mickler past the Mary Lee Clarje Elementray School on your right.

The last left past the school is Victoria's Circle.

The Baytown sales office and model home will be on your right.Drive on around the circle to see the available lots and three new spec homes - two of which the paint is barely dry on.

The one house for rent goes for $1,050 per month.

And while you're checking out the neighborhood, be sure to check out the neighbors.

It doesn't completely suck, but it's very expensive to live there compared to other parts of the county. Maybe if you could tell us a little more about what you're looking for somebody might be able to point you in the right direction. Been meaning to head your way and hit the Toccoa tail water but haven't had time lately.

The good news is there's plenty of distressed properties dang near everywhere.

Just a basic decent safe neighborhood w/ a reasonable drive to a boat ramp.

I was reading Topix w/ a large grain of salt and it sounds like the place is in serious decline and in debt and going to the dogs quickly.

Is that correct?

And, where would u live?

St Marys is aa decent small town with 2 free boat ramps. There is another (pay)ramp at the state park outside city limits north of city. Like many small towns, St M was hurt by the economic downturn and just waits (patiently) for a turnaround. Our businesses have been affected as well with competition from Jax & the internet. Neighborhood mentioned in posts 2 & 4 is decent except I think the poster lives there. Don't take in all the negativity you read here. The SPLOST is a no-brainer but there is the vocal tea party minority. The job market is not great. Like many others including former FL residents, I chose to retire here and have no regrets. Prudential Magnnolia Realty is the main company. They can help you.

St. Marys is in transition. In recent times it used to be a mill town, owned by Gilman Paper Company. Originally it was founded as a base of operations for smuggling goods to Spanish Florida.

I'm partial to having acreage and privacy, so neighborhoods aren't my thing.

Roughly area bounded by Spur40, 40, Pt Peter Rd & Navy base. Crooked River Plantation off Spur40 is in decline. "Bad" is relative, crime is not a big deal except in the Section8 hotspots esp Cumberland Oaks which are within area noted.

West of Spur 40 is modest older homes. Further West is area discussed in post 2. Crime in bad area noted above is mostly drug-related. Other areas periodically have unlocked cars robbed by teens. Violent crime is rare everywhere.
