On November 6th the FAA sent a Memorandum of Agreement to the City regarding the so-called "relocation" of the St. Marys Airport to the area known as Site 1. The FAA urges the City to explore all possible "funding sources" in that the land "donated" by the Sea Island Co. is insufficient to off-set costs.
Citizens are told that we're on the edge of our own "fiscal cliff" and our water rates/taxes may soar...again. Yet they go ahead with this stupidity. Hold onto your wallets, people. They need millions of dollars for this and you're to go-to source.

And don't forget the Boathouse property for $1,300,000!

And don't forget about the 2008 referendum that was narrowly approved by the voters that said "move the airport at NO EXPENSE to the citizens.

Yeah right.

You have GOT to be sh***ing me! After the article in the last paper telling us that we're going to get reamed over for the water-sewer fiasco, they're still doing the airport dance???

I don't care what they do with the airport but they damned well better not spend any tax payers' money in the process. If the Navy wants it moved, let the Navy pay. We can't afford it.

I just want my plane left alone. Don't shoot me down. Please those damn helicopters all hours of the night. I would much rather see section 8 housing on the airport. We would have the votes to stick it to Osprey Cove then.

Jimmy, they've been spending your money all along. Who do you think pays for the studies and the city attorney? Now they're probably going to hit us with another $4 million or so to build an airport for Woodbine.

What is it you people don't understand? If everyone sends us a little more then a select few of us will make a killing. The rest of us will settle for being wined, dined, and pampered as if we are really important.

Where can I read this Memorandum of Agreement? Does it say who will pay for the airport move?

Woodbines been staelin shit from St Marys for years, ever since they burned the Camden county courthouse down when it was in St Marys. They had the high school there for many years, and over two thirds of the students in camden county lived in St marys and had to be bussed at great expense to the taxpayers.

St Marys should reassess it's voting habits, you get what you pay for with your vote. It's like "sowing" and "reaping," Plant "weeds" you get back"weeds."

No way!!! They said that they would move the airport at no cost to the taxpayers of St. Marys. SPLOST funds are taxes that you and I pay. If they are being used frivolously to build an airport, it is a cost to the taxpayers. I say let the Navy pay if they want the airport moved. I am a taxpayer and I am happy to leave it right where it is.

Did anyone tell the Airport Authority about the MOA? The city never tells them anything.

Hopefully the T&G will print it but until then just send an FOIR to the city. It says that the city has to explore all sources of funding.

Stein emailed the MOA to a ton of people so, yeah, maybe the AA's figured it out by now.

Jimmy, council just keeps repeating that the referendum was "non-binding." The taxpayers have been paying for this mess every step of the way....and we'll be soaked for millions more before this fiasco is over.

Hate to tell you Jimmy your tax money is paying for the airport now. It does not pay for it self. We should just close it and be done with it.

Why? The park downtown doesn't pay for itself and it cost a heck of a lot more than the airport!

To set the record straight, the airport is self funding. It takes no money from the city for operation and has paid the local match for any FAA grants during the past several years from its own treasury without cost to the taxpayers.

This is not an argument as to whether the airport should be moved or even closed, but should clarify that it is not a burden to the taxpayers.

Is there anything to the talk that the airport will be relocated to the old Union Carbide property and developed as a spaceport? Is it a coincidence that the airport MOA and the spaceport proposal were announced on the same day? It seems that this would be an excellent plan.
