He's getting a little more "out there" every day. He's like the uncle that everyone rolls their eyes about but tolerate out of pity and the fact that no one wants to take care of him.

It's time to hang up the shingle, Jim.

Stine sure has changed his tune. When Sea Island was after the airport he was loud and proud about keeping it in place. Now that hes the atorney for the authorty he is trying to muck it up. Money changes everything.

Here we go again: with the tail wagging the dog. Our elected St Marys City Council can't tell their ass from a hole in the ground. So the non-elected special interest Authorities, Boards and Committees continue to screw the good citizens of this city.

Meanwhile our do-nothing party loving Council, family and friends continues to party in Atlanta with the Georgia Municipal Association and stick St Marys taxpayers with the party bills.

From the article. "City officials estimate it would cost taxpayers about $5 million to close the airport because the FAA wants the city to sell the property and use the money to help build a new facility. They are also concerned that the city would have to repay the FAA for any improvements already done at the airport."
Why would the FAA care? Sounds like someone got their story wrong.

The airport is dead. Asses with the city killed it. Who would any one want to spend money on the flop when the Navy is opposed? Only fools would be in charge of that dead deal. So they got their butts taken to task. That is great.

Using the Navy as an excuse for moving the airport has always been a false premise. Commenting on local safety issues that effect Base security is far different than actively supporting the closure of a civilian entity.

There is absolutely no difference in Base security between the threat from the Intercoastal Waterway and the airport of St. Marys. Yet the Navy doesn't seek support for the closure of that portion of the ICW that directly borders the Base. Instead they have done exactly what is required with the airport by placing operational restrictions in effect.

St. Marys Airport Authority with their hired hand Stein is not only barking up the wrong tree but embarrassing the City as a whole.

A minor nit-pick, but at one time, the Navy did propose relocating the AICW along Cumberland Island.

I think the Airport Authority should manage the airport as an ongoing operation and not worry about any possible relocation issues.

Correct me if I'm wrong the base ask the water tower out on point peter because of security. Is that water tower still standing? Anyone think why Hase and the others put up a fight to get it built. Anyone think could be because help them sell a few lots and fuck the rest of us.

I agree with Tommy's point on it.I the head of navy comes and says close airport or we will think of moving base. Until then shut up and move on

The first time the airport became a problem was in the building of the Army Base at Kings Bay way back in the mid 1950's. There was discussion about taking it as part of the base then.

In 1974 there was another flap about the airport when the Navy first looked at Kings Bay. Horse power was in Washington State back then so the first Trident Base was placed over there.

The next time the Navy came to town they were looking at the movement of the Poseidon class subs in Rhoda Spain. The Navy wanted to bring them to Kings Bay. But ultimately they decided to move them to Charleston (sort of) the subs came here and the crews were stationed in Charleston. The Simon Lake came and that was the beginning of the Airport as a problem again.

The Trident OICC came to town and the airport became a problem. Once the Trident base was completed things settled for a time.

911 came along and the Airport became a problem and was shut down. Could have kept it shut down; but, decided to re-open the airport.

Now after all these years it is once again a problem. The Navy build the airport oh so long ago way back during the depression. Using the WPA work program and now it looks like the Navy and after all they control the airport because of the Green light and the White light on the rotating beacon.

So if the Navy wants the damn airport moved then they should have to pay for the move.

The Navy could give a crap about the Airport. Only the Airport Authority and the real estate cartel have a self-interest in its movement.

When people say "Navy" your not talking about the CNO but some staff lieutenant drafting an "opinion" response to leading questions.

You could very well submit an inquiry to the Navy asking if moving the City of St. Marys would be in the best safety interest of the general public due to an accident. The leading question would have to be answered by a yes.

Unfortunately were not going anyplace and neither is the airport or the 44 million water/sewer plant.

Only in Stank Marys do Authorities, Boards and Committees have more power than the elected City Council. Now we know why only 7% of Stank Marys voters go to the polls. It don't matter who gets elected; the taxpayers will continue to get screwed by non-elected special interest.

All the letter did was bring out in the open what everyone has been whispering to one another afraid to discuss the issue openly. If you ask me all Stein did was call a l spade a spade !

City has screwed up any future for the airport and the Authority realizes that. The questions that needs to be answered are: Is the airport going to be of any benefit to the area and if not what needs to be done? Also, the Navy has said on occasions they want it moved or closed. What should be done about that? It is not the Authorities fault that the City has fooled around with this for 10 plus years. It is the City's problem. Authority has only advised the City what the problem is now. According to prior and current Authority members the City has excluded the Authority from plans for the airport. That is a problem with those elected. Not the Authority. Final question is: What should the City do with the Airport the City owns?

First thing the Council need to do is grow a pair. Then get rid of the damn Airport Authority and the damn Hospital Authority, and all the non-elected boards, authorities and committees. At the very least stop funding all this crazy shitty government by appointed self-serving special interest.

The citizens have said over and over again they do not want a big costly government in St Marys, or Camden County. The only people who want big expensive government are government officials who benefit from more and more tax revenue.

Simple - Sell the airport property and pay down the water and sewer debt.

The airport authority is worse than useless. The council should either replace them all or do away with the whole authority and run the airport themselves.
