"State Police chief: Attack 'will' happen at a Louisiana school"

Why not just announce "your children will die?"
State Police Commander Edmundson must have had a rush of testosterone to have made such an inflammatory statement before a state House Committee yesterday. The rest of his presentation probably contained grunts, fist pounding and the spitting of nails.
How about "If and when it happens, we'll be prepared" instead.
Sheriff Hilton was much more reasonable in stating "We will engage" any armed threats in schools.
I'm confident our cadre of patrol troopers, officers and deputies are qualified and prepared to handle these situations but I also believe a little more tact by Col. Edmundson in his presentations would go a long way toward re-assuring parents rather than scaring the hell out of them.
Just my opinion.

Yes, we are very blessed to have SRO's in our schools in Rapides Parish! Not only for the safety, but the role model position they play in our students lives! I am a Deputy, I would like to Thank the parish for backing Sheriff Hilton when he wanted to pass that 1/2cent sales tax years ago! I couldnt imagine dropping my kids off at school, and never getting to hold them again, tell them I Love You,or tuck them in bed at nite! God Bless those that dont get to do those things anymore, and Lord keep them stong!

So why don't you fill out an app and protect a school and its children yourself, or are you just a wannabe cry baby?

I'm not here to judge anyone, but apparently some of you are! Put on a Badge, gun, and some duty gear, and make the parents feel better when they drop thier children off at school! It sure is nice to know, if something goes south, that help is already there!

Yea, because making the parents feel better is what is truely important. Not actual safety. I have had the pleasure of seeing most SROs shoot at the range and I have seen them given passing scores when they failed. The worst case scenario in some of these school would be the SRO shooting at a killer. Bullets would go everywhere but the target. Then you would have two school shooters. One intentional and one non intentional. They are not patrolling for a reason. Either they have gotten in trouble, can't shoot, have been demoted for political reasons, or chose it because they are scared of real law enforcement work instead of a security job. I know this from 16 yrs of experience. SRO is just a feel good, none security, public view program. Everyone worth their salt at the SO knows this.

I know alot of the SRO's, and they do a awesome job at what they do! There is always gonna be someone complaining, or whining, because they didnt get what they thought they deserved, so they have to down grade the other Deputies to try and make themselves feel better! Just do your job, and let them protect our kids!

We'll never know how many lives SRO's may have saved by their presence in schools. The fact remains that there have been no major acts of violence in our schools since Wm. Earl Hilton initiated the program.
I salute him, and them, for their service.
(even though I voted for the other guy)
