it's a myth.
this is the story:The Death Cellar - It's the house of the resident C.W. Farquhar. It has been known by many people that have stayed in the basement long enough. The doors will lock. The lights will turn a light red color. Screams of many young girls. And full figured ghosts seen laying on the ground screaming. In 1975 a man brought many young girls to the basement and slowly killed them.

there is no record of this ever happening in 1975. no court documents, no newpaper articles, nothing.
it's a pretty cool tale though.

Having lived in St. Joseph for many years, I am familiar with most of the scary stories...i.e. Felix's grave(have witnessed some massively creepy stuff there!), Mt. Mora Cemetery, Central High School(graduated from there), the old psych hospital(now prison), etc. THIS is the first time I have ever heard of "The Death Cellar". Kind of silly, really. However, there WAS an active serial killer in St. Joseph in the 1970's. his victims were not young women though. They were children. There is even a book about the incidents, called "St. Joseph's Children".

okay...just a followup to my previous comment. The serial killer was Charles Ray Hatcher. He confessed to 16 murders prior to his death(by suicide) in 1985.

I was born and raised in St Joe and this is the first time i've ever heard of this. What about the caves just off the river? There was a story about killers living in those caves when i was a kid. And what about the Mansfield house in Wathena just across the river? I heard that several people died there?

felix's grave is no house..
im a teenager and most of my friends and i have gone the past weekend or so to see if it was truly haunted.
of course we got our proof and saw white fog, one of my friends claimed to have seen a boy, and we heard a chainsaw/engine type noise and started running.
we didnt get all the way to the grave though.
felix's grave is located past Laffayette high school, you follow a long curved road, the directions are almost horrible. its kind of in the middle of no where. its a long trail leading back to where the grave is.
some upper classmen at my school have gotten all the way back to the grave though. except those cheaters went during the daytime.

man this story of the death cellar is a bunch of crap i've lived in st joe for 30+ yrs and never heard of it only on the net.I'm a avid ghost hunter myself and i've been to alot of supposedly haunted places and the only place i've ever caught anything is the old cemetary in bluff woods, I took a pic of alot of orbs and mist figure and I caught a voice on a digital voice recorder.

On the hauntings my childhood friend Tony's house was hanunted and they lived in the 2600 block of Felix. I never witnessed the events but I believe they happened. I have to laugh at the Felix's graveyard thing. I used to take my dates there in in high school in 78 and 79. Never saw anything white except the tan lines on the ass of my dates. Good times back then. I do recall the caves down by the river were supposed to be where the devil worshipers hung out.

There are many stories like this around town. I worked at the State Hospital for years and never experienced anything like ghost activities.
