The OE residents are so divided on this merger it's sad. There are so many people that want what is best for their children and yet so many people don't agree as to what that is. If it were 100% clear OE wouldn't be so divided. No one can be sure what is best for anybody's child but their own. But here are some things to think about.

1) With or without a merger between your schools taxes will go up that is a non issue.

2) OE will likely close with or without a merger. It doesn't make sense to keep of the schools open after the merger. This does not save taxpayers or the state money. The OE building is the most likely choice for closure and St. Johnsville has made it clear they need a new school.

3) There are many OE residents who have moved their children to DCS. They have done this for a reason. OE residents need to talk to these parents and ask them why and if in the event of a merger they will move their children back into the district. Many have said they will not, even the residents who were for the merger. Many won't return especially in the event of a merger.

4) Once a merger takes place there is no undoing it when things become clear and truths become known.

5) The many OE students now attending DCS are being accepted into the school and the community without problems. They are making friends, thriving academically, joining in sports and participating in extracirricular activities both in the school and in the community.

DCS obviously has some great opportunities and programs for these children. Many OE parents consider DCS a more beneficial school than St. Johnsville for their children academically and socially.

The OE BOE is 100% for the merger for their own reasons as none of them have children in the OE school. So their desire may not be in the best interest of the children. I said "may not" that is for you as parents to decide. Of course, with the merger OE will gain a sports program however educationally they may lose. DCS has a sports program that they have already opened up to OE the OE BOE chose to dismiss this in order to procede with the merger agenda. This should be a concern for parents.

First, I challenge OE residents to go online and compare state test scores of the local schools in order to determine which schools have the best test scores. This should matter. Second, I challenge you to attend a DCS BOE meeting and ask the members of the board what they have to offer your students and what they want in return. This information is not being reported to you accurately, if at all, by your board and you need to do the research for yourselves. The answers may surprise you. Then with this information make an educated determination based on facts you have gathered as to what is best for your students.

Sadly, it is the concensus that your OE BOE does not have the best interest of your children at heart so you need to gather the information yourself and not be blinded by their wants instead of your childrens' needs.

Agian, you need to make your own decision and whatever it may be I wish you all the best of luck.

Sincerely,
A Parent Like You

This should read

"It doesn't make sense to keep ALL of the schools open after the merger."

Sorry for the typing error.

Reading above tells me that you should approach, DCS to annex OE. If majority of O E people think going to Dolgeville is a better option, so be it. Stop merger talk and fighting and close your school.

It's funny how OE was fine, then along comes StJ trying to suck OE into a merger. Now all anyone can say is OE is doomed. Thanks StJ quess your crap wasn't screwed up enough so you had to suck OE into your b377 sh**. If OE has to merge with anyone it should be dolgeville especially after all the crap St J has put them through

OE seems to want whats best for their kids, they just want it for free. Nobody will be good enough if they have to contribute. If OE continues to send students to DCS for better classes and keeps playing sports with the SAINTS, well then they save money and stay open longer.what a plan! Use your neighbors.

Blame ST J for OE problems, this sounds like republican crying over election. Hennity, Lumbug, Levine, Beck. Democrats didnt play fair. Stop crying go your own way ST J could care less if you merge, get that in your head. Thinking here was it could be a good chance to build a decent school, it's becoming oblivious that OE people don't think the same.

If they could not care less then why did they drag OE into their BS? Of course they care, someone has to bail their sorry arses out!!!!

I think it's pretty ironic that you chose the phrase " bail their sorry arses out" given the post that appears directly over yours. Too funny not to comment!
