To "Whatever" , where do you live that your kid gets on bus before 7 am? I think school starts around 8, not sure. I would not be happy with that, I think that's something to bring up about routes. Is this in OE or ST J?

That's stupid. They should have sent their kids to LF in the first goddamn place. Much better environment and facilities.
FYI- you can't merge with city school like Little Falls, there are rules against it due to size I think. That's why Little Falls wasn't considered, and Fort Plain has a huge amount of debt- who wants to merge there and incur all that debt as well.

WRONg, This has been the first year any student can enroll in any state school as long as they provide their own transportation. St. J had 35 kids in the elementary alone join this year. Some were from OE like my kids. They love it there and have made many friends. Grades are great and its only about 4 miles. Next year I hope they get bused and they will if the schools merge.

I never said they couldn't go there on their own, I said that the schools couldn't merge because of some rules on city schools merging with rurual schools. Please read the post carefully before you go off on someone.

Thanks , the school will still receive your taxes and will help make things better at our new school. Good luck in Johnstown.

sorry if you felt I went off on you . I didnt! you would feel the real heat if I did. I was just informing all on the facts . Trying to point out that St. Johnsville has already started to grow and without a merge I believe they will stay afloat. They wont be able to offer more and may have to cut programs but they most likely will remain open while OE will lose students and state Aid till they can know longer afford to put gas in the buses to pick up the kids. Also where did you see or hear about a rule that city schools and rural schools cant merge?

Progressive person; So you'd rather just keep hiding the real issues and not fix them? I personally am sick and tired of the cover ups and BS that is being handed out. Why not work for a long stable future instead of a quick fix, sure to fail solution? Merging districts has more to do with the whole community and what it can support, then kids in school. I am NOT against the kids I am for the whole community. Those that are trying to shove this merger down our throats are using the children as pawns in order to fulfill their personal agendas, sickening.
Kids are not staying in NY because there is nothing here and taxes are outrageous. Killing historical communties for $$$$'s is exactly what is killing the state. OE doesn't have a lot but they do have a nice community with a reputable school, if this merge passes it will be gone. When fulton county and OE loses another school what will happen to the value of property in the area? It will go down, but you can bet taxes won't {as shown in the study}. This meger will do NOTHING to help the state and it sure as heck won't fix the states problems, infact it will do just the opposite and yet leave another low income ghost town. It's sad that folks are not looking into past merged schools and seeing the truth and lies that were handed out to them in order to gain votes. I will write again. Follow the money and you'll find out what this merger is about, trust me it has nothing to do with the children.
Keep up the good work! There are fellow OE residents that agree with you!

OE will not be gone if they merge, Elementary and JR High will still be there. There is nothing else on table now.! This is not a take over by anyone. These other solutions are not being addressed, They will not be for years, NY State schools are very expensive, however, merging many is a plan to cut only some of the expense. This is same as village,s and towns. They will need to start merging, but the road is long. ST J has less than 40 miles of roads, 2 road supervisors that are making 80 k total a year that is stupid.,but will stay that way until taxes can't be paid. The village has 2.5 clerks making 60 k a year total . The village has 1400 people plus 200 in old age home. OE and ST J school has about 800 kids with a total budget of about 19 million. Do these schools need 2 Supers, 3 principals , 2 guidance people, 2 business managers, 2 AD,s 2 maintenance supers, 2 transportation supers. Duplicate high school teacher in every subject, some classes in each district have less than 10 students. Think Think . Vote with your head not your heart. ST J and OE will be , ST JOE. What the hell is wrong with that?

please do not send your kids to Fort Plain we really do not need the influence of St. J people and OE people in our district. We pay enough taxes to live here and send our kids to school here. Fort Plain does not want St.J kids

U people are just being stubborn. You do not want your kids on a bus than drive them. why spend money on gas for farther away? What is the big deal bout STJ anyway? Why are you people so stubborn? Do the math it is worth it to merge. smaller classes means more attention to your kids. More than in the other schools would give them! Nevermind the bad influences in the bigger schools. U make no sense kids on buses for over an hour, you will have to drive them to another anyway, never mind tuition, there won't be a bus to D-ville,FtP, where ever. Duh. OE is going under no matter what. Why not keep your kids closer to home where you can keep an eye on them better. It would work better if we all just got a long. Seriously!

I was hoping there would be a 3rd choice when voting. That would be to close both schools.
That would save millions in faculty, transportation, buildin g upkeep.
Then we could focus on educating the students.

Understand." Parent for Ed" That is not on table now. I say join schools and work on your thoughts, A no vote will not , make a better change. A yes vote will make it closer to a better solution. A no vote will just keep people who think these obsolete schools can function. Two or three years down road they will think merger is answer. It will then be more merger studies and we will be back to here.

Attend the OE Board meeting on November 17th and ask what the plan is for your school when you vote the merger down. Make an informed decision.

The merger study was put together by an independent 3rd party that will have no involvement once the merger is finished not something that is set out by the people of the proposed district. who is going to run for the new board? What staff are they planning to keep on? What is the proposed state aid going to be spent on? How are we going to compensate when the state aid stops early? these are all valid questions. And lets try to be a little more adult here no need for insults now.
