I really think the village should be able to snow blow the sidewalks at least on main street! The sidwalks are unbearable to walk in early in the morning to get to work. I feel we all pay enough taxes, why cant they do us at least that favor. Please.. How can we reach out and get them to agree

Shoveling the sidewalks is the responsibility of the property owners, stupid! The only responsibility that the Village has is to cite the property owners if they don't comply. The DPW's job is to make sure that the streets of the Village are safe- that's hard enough- along with the sidewalks & walkways of Village-owned properties. Better get a better pair of boots, walker!

Walk to Work, I share your concern and agree property owners should shovel AND the Village needs to SITE the property owners who do not clear their side walks and there are a lot of them. The property owners have 24 hours to do so and they don't! and usually they are the out of town land lords or the property owners who don't care. I live near the Nursing home and feel bad for the workers who have to walk in the messy streets when the sidewalks aren't cleared. First step- go to a village meeting or speak to a village official to get them to Actually Cite the property owners who do not hold up to their LEGAL responsibility.
Good Luck,

I guess what you are SUPPOSED (not "posed") to do is hope that the Village cites the property owners who don't clear their sidewalks. But if you think that they have to be up shoveling in time for you to walk to work very early in the morning, you are disillusioned. Better just suck it up!

I believe Herkimer and Dolgeville clear main street side walks. I think all our cops could get out of the car and shovel the main street clear. When time available, sitting in the bank, car wash, and other hiding places instead, is not productive. But using them, to pull up to each business and shovel would be more cost productive then hiding , watching empty streets.

I say ticket any homeowner that wont remove the snow in front of their house. the money will help keep my taxes from inceasing. Call codes if you see snow on the sidewalks. Or just trip and fall and then sue the homeowner and the city! My taxes pay for a codes enforcer so things stay safe, so get to work!

Go to the Village Office and check the Ordinances/Codes. It's pretty much the same in every village around- property owners are required to keep the sidewalks in front of their properties clear.

Then I guess you better get back out there and do some more shoveling. It's your right and duty as a property owner. Congratulations, whine a$s! What a freaking Entitlement Society we live in... Wah, Wah, Wah!!

I agree, the homeowner is responsible. Cite them, add it to their tax-bill. They complain now that they are too high, add a few hundred for forcing the village employees to shovel them, and they might take notice. And why should the village business,s get special privileges. Its their responsibility to keep their own clean, just like a normal homeowner does. Part of the cost of doing business. Village Police shoveling?? A majority of them don,t know what end of the shovel is used. Their too busy citing for stupid tickets.
