It was disappointing to hear some of the candidates running for the board suggest they wait to add classes for the students. Also one listed the sports and and it seems to be that there are more sports for girls than boys, One of the girl sports should be cut.I have girls and would rather have additional classes next year. Priority should be to offer high school students opportunities.
What meeting were you at? The board member said that we would be talking about classes at a later date and reached out to the teachers to compile a wish list of courses they would like to see offered. As far as sports are concerned..... there are enough for both boys and girls and taking sports away is ridiculous. We are merging to make more opportunities for the kids not take any away. Being a good student means being well rounded and that comes from participating in sports, clubs and of course soon well in classes.

So disagree if you think sports should be above academics. I was at meet the candidates night. I heard wait and maintain not add and expand right away. Schools must offer a equal amount of sports for boys and girls so if you dont cut a girl sport you are adding a sport for the boys to play. By the way they already count cheer leading for boys so we would be talking about volleyball. I would hate to think the first thing as a school we change is adding a sport and not extra AP classes. That's my opinion and my children are well rounded and are into many positive activities. However they have been shorted when it comes to classes offered in school.

Yes. In fact, those two were serving when they negotiated with the Teacher's Union and got them to freeze their salaries! Must be because they are so concerned with their own pocketbooks. Yeah. That's it.

@Dumbo: Thanks for the answer, glad we agree somewhat. My point about sports, band, etc.... was not a bash on those activities. I was just saying we need to focus on what is important for ALL children and if the money does not exist then those types of things need to take a back seat until future $$$$'s exist. Not only that I see many parents more worried about junior being in football then being able to read at a 4th grade level. This is societies fault and how WE place importance of OUR education system. If so and so feels juniors only chance in life is a sport then maybe THAT parent should step up to the plate and pay for that. Why should the tax payers be burdened with an individual childs needs when in all honesty it does nothing to help all of society move forward? Simply put, sports are great but in many cases they dumb down society. Eductaion should have priority over everything else, then we can go on with all the extras, IF money allows!
As far as the second part of my post you can take it however you want. I try very hard not to make personal bashes on topics (after all it is topics) I along with MANY others do know and have had personal interaction with those that are running. I'm not saying all are out to shine their ego but...... Well if you haven't seen it, then you're either blind or have never met certain monsters of the community? My other point still stands how can we improve when we just repeat what got us in the hole in the 1st place? We need NEW members that give a hoot, not old members that are there just to polute!
. Again, I don't disagree that excess should be trimmed. I can't support cutting sports altogether, because I recognize the value in those programs in the quest to build well-rounded students. However, some schools in the area have cut out certain things in their sports programs like the JV level in the Fall & Spring. That way, kids in 7, 8 & 9 can still compete on Modified, and 10, 11 & 12 can compete on Varsity. It's not ideal from the point of view of the coaches trying to build successful programs, but if that helps save an academic offering, it's worth looking at. Especially with a school our size (even merged)

I still stand by my contention that Board Members have very little voting power over things that would impact themselves or their children directly. Just about anything that they make decisions on is attached to some legal, contractual, and/or mandated stipulation. You say that you've witnessed it firsthand, but have provided no examples, so I can't be swayed.

Well I do have examples , however me throwing names and issues out there seems could hurt the children involved. So for that reason I will not state the facts but just say I will not be voting for the click that runs the town. Let new people have their shot.

It is law that equal number of sports teams are offered for each sex. This law was enacted because schools usually had more sports for males. However, in this example, the females will have more options. This should be solved by offering the males another sport. We are merging schools, why would we want to offer less?
My concern, that nobody seems to answer, is why do we need all of the teachers/aids after the merge. There will be an excess of middle school teachers, 2 from each subject (plus the four 6th grade teachers), and extra teachers at the high school...i.e. 4 science teachers but only 2 from all other subjects.

Title IX doesn't guarantee that schools offer the same number of sports for boys and girls. It prohibits discrimination, I.e., if a sport is not offered for girls, they can't be refused if they want to play on the boys' team. For example, you see girls on boys' wrestling teams.

It will be interesting to see how they handle personnel- there must be a contractual deadline where teachers have to be notified if they're being eliminated. Has the current board made any mention of whether or not they will be cutting positions? As for Aides & TA's, I think you'd be surprised how many of them are mandated positions to stay in compliance with Special Ed. laws.

if mosher had a hand in this he can not be trusted to work with the whole community, just the few he feels comfortable with. This must be the type of experience he speaks of all the time.

Unless you can prove it to be true, it's libel. I don't think anyone has been charged with anything, have they? And we all know it's a CROCK that someone has it "on the aecurity camera". So by using names & accusing them of doing illegal things..... All I'm saying is that you need to be careful.

Actually, the person that brings charges accusing a person of libel, has the burden of proof that it is false.

United states has this little thing called a court system and a presumption of innocence until proven guilty.

Along with the person being accused having to prove that it's true. It's a Civil matter, anyone can sue someone for it as long as they have the means. It would probably be embarrassing to receive that summons, I'd bet. Plain and simple- people have been named on here as committing a crime & others as "accomplices". Pretty strong accusations- and definitely defamatory.

Lies, lies and more lies. I can hear it now "it wasn't me, I didn't do it", "it was him", "it was her". Why is it always he said, she said? On and on it goes. WE know who did it, St J is noted for this underhanded tactics. Wonder whats next!
