Here is another one....how about a school board member who works for BOCE, which means the school board will eventually vote on his salary.

It's convenient to spin it as BOE members "vote on salaries.". In reality, they vote to accept or reject a contract, after both sides have negotiated it, and every part of it, fully. If the BOE chose not to accept a contract, the employees would continue to be paid under the pay scale in the previous contract, which does include increases in step compensation. Nice try, nitwits!

If it were a Conflict of Interest, there would be a law against it. Check around the local school districts- many Board of Education members have family members that work in the schools that they represent. In little dinky villages made up of generations of inbred families, it's impossible not to. And when you think about St. Johnsville, and ESPECIALLY Oppenheim, you don't think you're going to get Board Members related to everyone? LMAO

Why does someone always want to stir up the pot.Don'tyou think the two school boards have enough to worry about without asses like you making more trouble. Why dont you run for the board? Why?Because it's a thankless job,you have to listen to all the crap,no matter what you do,and some people say things which makes me think they dont have a brain their head. Why dont you do yourself a favor and try to help the situation instead of worrying about who's related to who.Think about it,in St.Johnsville,75 percent of the people are related to each other. You should be taking the time to learn all you can about these candidates and vote for the ones who are most qualified.

in the best interest of the children why would we want teachers their spouse or other educational employees, retired or not running our school?we all know they look out for one another thats how education has become mired in the cesspool that its in.

Why would you want teachers running your school?
I would much rather have an electrician running
the school; at least he knows how it's wired.
Or maybe a farmer should be running the school;
he knows where the bull**** is. Why would you
want doctors running your hospitals? I would
much rather have a butcher running it; he would
know how to cut people up.

Yes, once again the green monster rears its ugly head. Listen closely- regardless of who is on the school board- the employees will be paid. You should stop focusing on how much more they might make than you and put your energy into a college education if it is causing so much pain and suffering in your life.

Looney Toons: It's not about them making a living it's about, LVIVNG WITHIN THE MEANS OF THE COMMUNITY!!!!! Why do you think the US is going down the tube so fast, it's because of GREED! If an area only brings in an average of blank amount of $$$$'s it can not support handing out millions extra. Sooner or later the last piece of straw will break the camals back! I don't think any one here is against fair pay for a fair job. What people are realizing is shady work at best and over payed workers that can not be touched because of tenure. A hard working teacher that has pride is one thing, the entity that we call our education system is not worth a crap. We either need to wake up and stop the BS or just sit with our heads up our butts and let things just keep going the way they are........down the hole! Tenure needs to go, teachers need honest evals and testing, the whole system needs a complete overhaul! We have merged, and thats fine, will it solve anything, hell NO it just caused more paperwork and red tape to be flung through the system, and easier ways to cover things up, more waste.

See, there you go..."shady work at best, and over payed (I think you mean overpaid) workers...". What the hell do you mean by "shady" work??? And overpaid compared to what?? Who is getting rich at a $60 grand a year job? And, NEWSFLASH... NYS has adopted a new Evaluation System, to "weed out" poor teachers, which is doing nothing more than costing school districts, taxpayers, etc., a fortune! See, a teacher that one student hates might be adored by another. Who decides who's right? What's the scale for measuring that? You don't know, of course, because all you know is that teachers make more than you & you hate paying taxes. Quit your crying.

Jealously is a terrible thing.I guess you should have gone to school to be a teacher. They spend countless hours preparing for their careers.Do you think they wave a magic wand and they become teachers, administators etc.I dont think so.Do you have any idea what's involved in education? No, probably not.Stop complaining, let go of that green eyed monster and maybe in your next life, you will get involved with education and work 6 mos. a year too!LMAO..........

Hey, Not so perfect one- Obviously I read your post, which is why I asked specific questions... such as " What the hell do you mean by "shady" work??? And overpaid compared to what?? Who is getting rich at a $60 grand a year job?" Also, when you went on your uniformed rant about Teachers being evaluated and/or tested, I explained how there is a new evaluation system in place. But the tone, once again, of your postings is that you can't handle the salary that teachers are paid. When people choose their career path, they know "if I go into education, I will probably stand to make between X-Y dollars per year... if I go into the medical field, I stand to make between X-Y dollars per year, if I don't go to college and have to work at the Distribution Center, I will make much less than that and then I can bitch about what the people who made other choices make".. blah, blah, blah.

By the way, what is 95% Health coverage for the fam? Will only 95% of my family be covered?

If anyone here is going to end up in a rubber room, it's you, by the shear fact that you are harboring so much hostility for those who made better choices than you did. Sorry, dude!

95% health coverage means that if coverage is $1000 a month for a family, the school pays $950 of it for them, they have to conribute $50 to have coverage for thier entire family for the month.
Now, I won't get into anything else because no one on this site can see the middle ground. I only hope that the people we find to represent us on the board can. I hope they can see what is best for the kids, teachers, and taxpayers, weigh each side and come up with a solution that gives the most to our kids while still compensating teachers appropriately and not overburdening the tax payers. Good luck to whoever is elected on the board, it will be a lot of hard work and propbably a lot of late nights and long conversations.

Who gets that? A $1000/month policy that they only pay $50 towards? You're spreading false info again.

St. J teachers pay 15% and retirees pay 40%.

And other places have it where it's tiered... i.e. teachers who were hired before such a date pay 10%, then after another date pay 15%, after another date pay 20%, etc. The teachers who have been there the longest don't pay as much,(but there aren't many of them left, either) and newer hires pay more towards it, as a way to increase the teachers' contribution towards health insurance over time. All negotiated BETWEEN the BOE's and Teachers Unions. That's why it's always a good laugh when you get people like "theperfectone" who throw around false info, like that teachers pay $50/month towards their health insurance family plan. And regardless, it's called a BENEFIT, and some jobs offer them. Sorry, again, NOT-SO-PERFECT-ONE.
