Dan; I'm not posting in a negative manner, more like a realistic one. I've wrote that I have no problem with a legitimate merge WITH GUARANTEES. I will not support anything based on empty promises and the "well lets see what happens when it's done" concept. This is how things have been running for years with the ed dept, it is flat out time for a change. They've proven that they know how to screw things up, so what will make this any different? I do not understand why ANYONE would believe in lets just do it and then worry about what happens, to me that is completely unexceptable and rediculous. St J will have much more say what happens at a new school just based on the size of the population and lay of the land, that's a no brainer. Now will they have a fair bias for the OE community when it comes to decisions being made? I have no clue. I will say the way the merged sports went was bull, there was NO REASON to rent a field when OE had a perfectly good one to use, so why did things like this happen? Is it the BOE fault, is it the supers fault, is it the communities fault, or is it all combined? If money is going to be wasted just in a merged sports program how much bureaucratic BS is going to happpen once the entity becomes a whole? I went to every single merge study meeting, and when legitimate questions were asked about what is the down side of a merge the consultants would go out of their way to change the subject, WHY? I no longer ask how bright will the sun shine type questions, I ask how do we make the sun shine! I believe in the concept of do it ONCE AND DO IT CORRECT! Prevention is 99% the difference between make or break. If the merge is to happen it needs to be done proper, not the concept of lets all believe in blank dreams.

And on another note lets not keep bashing the schools. We know perfectly well what both schools have done for years. Just like any other school they have taught children and brouht some of the brightest minds into the world of hard knocks. Also OE is not the only school to lose or gain students, this happens in all districts, how many have left StJ(just sayin). The real question that should be asked is "how legitimate is this merge study?" Is it even worth the paper it was written on? For those that were at the meetings why was the sales pitch so perfect while other questons were ignored. How is it that shool merge consultants had NO, not one shred of evidence of how past mergers have affected communities? Why is it that the same consultants would not share past evidence when it was presented to them? That study can be torn to shreds with legitimate questions, or it can be excepted for what it was a GIANT SALES PITCH, made to sucker the tax payers and communties!

Much better zing, not total bashing, blaming or pointing fingers.
Since both BOE and NYS were part of obtaining the information presented in the merge study, we should hope that the information is correct, thats alot of people involved doing whats best for both districts. Why would all those people involved try to give all false information to get you to vote their way? Again zing, think about that, does it make any sense that this is some huge conspiracy? I totally agree that everyone can vote their way and see the study their way, but does it make sense this is all lies just to prove some point or piss you off? Think about it zing, I give you more credit than what you are typing. If someone has a fact, share it. If you have nonsense, keep it to yourself and let everyone else make their own conclusion.
Kids felt shared sports was fine, some parents did not. The rented field you speak of, was to have games under the lights at night. OE does not have lights, kids liked the night games for something different and I don't see where any disrespect was done to the OE field.

The state recommends you merge, they say they will give you millions, you don't believe them. Take out a bond, make them sign. This crap about guarantees is stupid. Don't you think if they renig on this , no one in state would even discuss merging. If that's what's holding you from yes to no, you are also stupid.

There's no guarantee they won't close the doors, either, yet you're willing to take a chance on that. I said it before, but another obstacle to the state aid formula(s) is going to be the state money needed to rebuild downstate after the hurricane. You can bet that a huge chunk if our state tax dollars (on top of Federal money) will be funneled downstate for recovery. I know it's not "guaranteed," but I'd be willing to bet that upstate schools will see less than ever. ALL of our small upstate schools are in trouble... It seems as though one who was encouraged to merge, but voted against it, would be considered by the State as not interested in continuing to exist. And before you say that I'm trying to scare people into submission, just think about it. How much consideration will the State give O-E when they are faced with that mess downstate? Where are the bulk of Cuomo's voters located? I would open up my mind a bit, and see what opportunities are at your fingertips before voting 'no' again.

That money is already been accounted for, the disaster has nothing to do with this merge, quit with the scare tactics. With your reasoning maybe we should just roll over and call ourselves the United States of China, sure glad I didn't have you sitting next to me in a fox hole while serving my country, coward!

WHAT money has been accounted for? You honestly don't think that as our fiscally-strapped state has to use financial resources to rebuild those areas devastated by the hurricane it will affect spending for everything else, including school aid? Take a look at today's Leader-Herald... No increase in State Aid expected, and almost $750,000 to make up for according to projections. You're in trouble up there- if it makes you feel better to call it a "scare tactic", then have at it.

I can't wait for the merge to go through. StJ is leaps and bounds ahead of OE in education. OE needs StJ so they can learn some culture. StJ will lead OE to a brighter future and maybe even make some of these hill billys realize there are more people out there then just their cousins. Maybe we could even push for a new school building along with athletic field bus garage and whatever else would be needed. For those that are afraid of taxes, maybe you should have rented!

OMG, Please vote no on this stupid merge! I barely have enough money to bail my hubby out of jail as it is. And remember you not need proof if you are loud enough! If all else fails, punch a cop!
