Good grief, facebook is buzzing with this news. Hester has returned the 20cents, in question, to a big wig at Stewarts. Boycott to begin, Story sent to Channel 6 news, can these people look any more foolish? Maybe Brenda needs to post what happened, now the village is in a uproar over unfair labor practices, what next? I find it odd that Hester will never shop again in Stewarts when her daughter works for Cumberland Farms. I just love this village. This may very well be unfair, but most of the posts sound like they were made by "country bumpkins"....probably not far from the truth. I thought the story of recyclables being stolen off porches was BIG, but damn....this is HUGE, really HUGE. Some citizens are ready to beat kids that may be stealing with baseball bats, whats that tell you?

Well....giving someone that is not an employee an employee discount is the same as stealing. Anyone that has a brain cell knows that if you steal from a company that you work for they are going to fire you.
Moral of the story if you want a job and don't want to get fired DON'T FRIGGEN STEAL FROM THE COMPANY YOU WORK FOR!!!! DUH!!
I think Stewarts was in the right, anyone who steals deserves to be fired. If she felt bad because someone didn't have enough money for something she should have put the money in from her own paycheck not stole from the store!!!
I really don't understand why so many people are standing up for a thief .....

She was always miserable any time I was in there anyway, never even seemed like she liked the job so it was prob for the best.
Chances are too that she has had warnings before and this was just the last straw. Of course when you are fired you are mad and you try to make yourself look perfect and your boss look like they are @ssholes, which is just what she is trying to do. It's not like she's going to admit everything else that she did wrong before this that lead to her cheating the store being the final straw.

OK first of all talking about country bumpkins. MAYBE just MAYBE you should get your story straight before you go spouting off. She did NOT steal anything!!!!! She BOUGHT the soda and gave it to him. STEALING really!! Can you get anymore ignorant!!!! People are angry because the new district manager fired her for spending her own money, and then giving it to the disabled person who wanted a drink. She did not just fire her she did it in front of other employees, and customers. There was NOTHING right about what this woman did. The store deserves to be boycotted. I for one will be giving them twenty cents to. Get your facts straight before you open your mouths and show your ignorance, and before you try and tell ME I have no clue, I have first hand knowledge from an employee who saw this. It is people like you that make our village the disaster it is.

employee discounts are for the employee! anything else is stealing!Get your facts straight I also work at a Stewarts and understand the policies. That behavior hurts all the customers and employees. You are ignorant if you can't understand this. Every one's 20 cents add up to millions.

So hypothetically this employee bought a soda and it was rung up by another employee and the discount was applied. Brenda then gives the soda to the handicapped customer. In all actuality Brenda bought the soda and at that time it bacame her property. Shen then chose to give "her" propterty to another. She did not buy it with the handicapped persons money....she bought it with her own money. Therefore whe was entitled to the discount. She did not steal a thing. Now...lets say the store manager is going to have a picnic at her house. She buys soda, beer, buger rolls, mustard, ketchup, etc. She gets to use her discount ... right??? Then she has the picnic and serves all of these items to family and friends. Did she steal? I bet not. Does this happen all of the time?? I bet it does. So lets not be accusing a fine citizen of this community of stealing anything. Lets praise her for being an outstanding human being and helping those in need! In deed!!

Why so much "emphasis" on handicapped? What does that have to do with anything? Everyone knows this young man gets around town very well...yes he does have a handicap but he certainly seems to do very well for himself. I find it demeaning to him for this "handicap" card being played. Does that make a difference in what was said to be done?

Absolutely. These uneducated St. Johnsville heathens don't understand the meaning of stealing. They really need to look up the definition. Stewart's is toxic to employees. The company treats employees in such a berating manner and the time has finally come where their road is drawing to an end. Enron people...Enron....read about it....Stewart's is the next on the hit list.

Yes it does have EVERYTHING to do with what happened. He is handicapped and CAN NOT make money for himself. So someone who CARES about the customers that come into the store helped him have some hydration on a warm day. Considering he does walk all over town. People get thirsty and so did he and someone helped him by buying a drink with HER OWN MONEY. She had every right to do what she did and if it was me I would TOTALLY do the SAME thing that she did. It was her drink once she bought it therefore she can do WHATEVER she wants to do with said drink. He as a handicapped person on Medication gets thirsty even more than others so YES again I say he has EVERYTHING to do with what happened. I know from personal experience that people with his disorder who are on medication get thirsty more than other people.

You should be on a soap opera, we all get thirsty, btw handicapped people usually receive a gov't check. I'm sure with your "personal experience and all" you would know that.

The only thing that could make more of an impact is a black spanish pregnant with twins woman who is handicapped.

Stewarts wants to be in the big league with all the other corporations, like walmart, target, etc.. Once you are there for so long you start costing them a lot more money (retirement, benefits, pay-scale, etc.). The upper middle-management probably go through training seminers that tell them "new" employees work harder than ones that have been there longer.
So because it is a right-to-work (which is a counter to unionizing) they will find a reason to fire you. It is inevitable, unless you kiss-ass and backstabb like the rest of them.
They (stewarts, and all others) don't want you to be good for people(customers, co-workers), they only want you to be good for them. Otherwise, bye-bye.
And its the asshole emloyees that buy-in to there B.S. that I really feel sorry for. How do you sleep at night?
