First how about Spota getting the Police to obey the Law and set a good example. Driving on the expressway it is not uncommon to have a patrol car pass you doing 80+ miles an hour, tailgate drivers so that they will get out of there way or turn on thier lights to get through traffic, only to turn them off 200 feet down the road.

Education may be the answer, but only if backed up by jail time.

Good freaking luck with that!!! People are people and the law will not stop them from driving wrecklessly (or doing anything else illegal, for that matter). Why are they only mentioning the young drivers??? Wreckless drivers come in all ages. Im hoping to see far less cars on the road if this thing works and frankly, I am hoping to be driving on the roads alone!!!!!!!!!!

What about drunk drivers Spota ? have you forgotten them or is it easier to arrest a speeder. Stop wasting tax dollars. Enforce the speed limits, issue tickets, take away licenses.
Your going to seize cars, you tried that with drunks and see how well that worked.

I know a lot of the reckless drivers are young kids, but lets not forget a lot of the more "mature" drivers that drive like maniacs. Let's face it, people on Long Island in general drive like they own the roads. I think it's a great idea to take their cars away from them. Let them walk to work.

And don't forget the cops who blow thru intersection and stop lights/signs (with lights flashing then turn them off like nothing happened). Also this is all fine and good about the reckless drivers -now do something about all those IDIOTS who are still driving and yacking away on their cell phones - throw them in jail and take their cars away AND their phones!!!! People on call phones while driving are just as bad as drunk drivers!!!!

Isn't this the job of Law Enforcement on a daily basis???? Why is this something special.

Umm, catch the dude Reading his Newspaper on the Expressway this morning. He almost made me the third motorcyclist of the week to dee pavement all because Mr Newspaper wasn't paying attention.

Not that any gives a rat's behind about my opinion, but, as long as these arzholes are killing themselves and not me, frankly scarlet I don't give damn. The more of them killing themselves, the less traffic. I say open campus policy Island Wide.

how about starting with the cop in my neighborhood who almost hit me the other day when he was on his cell phone and rolled through the stop sign when i clearly had the right of way? that would have been double fines if it was reversed -- rolling through a stop sign and talking on the cell. glad to see they're all above the laws that were created to protect the people.

Young Drivers Whoa....isn't this Profiling???

I see nothing wrong with Profiling but how come law enforcement can't get away with it at Airports and Big Events when it comes to those most likely to place a bomb?

Telling kids they can't leave school grounds because, basically, they drive bad... Something wrong with that.
Leaving the school isn't the issue, it's the driving that needs to be taught whether they are driving to Maccy 'D's from school or driving after school.
Having said that. Kids, take the bus, it's there, it's paid for and it will cut back on the traffic jam at the school entrance.

Where are these cops coming from? Are they just going to be resassigned from Highway to a different unit that just happens to cover the "highway". Is this a shell game being played?

Post the proper speed limits example the LIE is 55 the same a a side road. Put the highways to 65 and enforce it. What we have now is confusion forced by the aggressor's. I agree with Mr Spota too

I didn't know the DA used a ticket book while he was on patrol. The county is never going to give up the LIE there is too much overtime paid by the FED for HOV lane enforcement the union will never let that happen.

This headline pops up twice a year. I've been seeing it since the 1950s.

Yo Spota, how 'bout snagging a few thousand illegals?

3 examples of the "me, first" ignore the law attitude of many who have forgotten HOW TO drive:

* you signal to parallel park, pull up to the car in front the way you were taught, start to turn your wheel and back up--but you CAN'T because the moron behind you is right behind your car!

* you are at a light going straight. the car facing opposite is going to make a left when the light changes. you have the right of way, but the idiot across already has their wheels turned into the opposite lane so they can jump the light.

* lights on when windshield wipers are on---is this EVER enforced?

* at least 5 cars proceed through an intersection after the light turns--not because they have already entered the intersection and need to complete their turn (they haven't) instead it is as if it is their God given right.

it isn't just speeding that makes our roads unsafe. it would be nice if all infractions were enforced.
