Yeah, all these fruity karate instructors came on here to defend this guy at first. Karate is a dumb sport (any semi-pro boxer could beat up the average black belt), and this guy deserved life in prison.
Yes I would have liked to see you prove that to Bruce Lee...

To Paul in Malibu - how come football and boxing don't have these controversies? Do you read the papers? Two years ago, football camp in PA, students were SODOMIZED by other teammates with PINECONES. So, as a generalization, should I just say that men, guys, boys, in general are sick bast@#$DS?????????? It's rampant. And very very sick! Two teens recently sentenced for sticking a plumbing snake up a disabled man's rectum "for the fun of it". I don't hear about girls doing this????? So instead of blaming parents all the time, should we just be terrified of the male population in general???
I always have been. Haven't you? They truly are evil personified on earth.

Yeah but how do you explain to him WHY you're talking about people touching his private parts? You're still freaking him out just by TALKING ABOUT people touching his private parts. Get it?
As a matter of fact, mister, we have talked to him about this since he was tiny. It's a big world out there, and it can be unpleasant, and we wanted him to be prepared. If you had a child, you would understand.

And NO, it does not freak him out. He rolled his eyes at me this morning--"Aw, Mom, I KNOW this!"

Newsday is removing all the forums about this. So everyone, make your comments quick before this one gets removed too. Something tells me Joyce Santamaria wasn't too happy with the comments about Empire State Karate - but she was Jimmys sensei and boss for 15 years and has some explaining to do. By the way, some of these forums may be found on topix.com . Thanks a lot Newsday for censoring us!!

My mistake, this forum got removed too. It's already off of Newsday. There's only one forum about this still left on the Newsday link "LI Teacher May Have Been Involved With Other Boys."

My child is a student at Empire State. He had only been there a few months when Jimmy left, and he never had Jimmy as an instructor, so we are not directly involved in this sad story. However, my husband and I have a great deal of confidence in Sensei Joyce and her current staff. I expect that my son will continue studying there until he achieves his black belt.
thats not going to take too much effort.hahaha

. Everyone needs to take responsibility for this horrible turn of events-maybe had I voiced my suspicions to Joyce 6 years ago and encouraged others to do the same, she would have been forced to tell Jimmy to knock off seeing these kids outside the dojo-she was his boss after all-and at least some kids would have been spared.
i agree 100%. she could of prevented it, or tried to.

Right, All the parents sat there for forty-five minutes every class with their eyes glued on their sons crotch. if he had to go to the bathroom they went too.
If he needed a band-aid, they monitored the placing of it.
They never read a magazine, they never stepped out to get something at a nearby store, they never dropped him off and didn't stay for the whole time. They were never distracted by the needs or schedules of their other kids.
They monitored every conversation their boy had with the instructors and with other kids. So they know for sure nothing innapropriate was said or done or revealed.
That's what sounds highly unlikely.
But, if as you say there was never a second when your son was out of your sight, by all means speak to and cooperate with the police. Show them a picture of your son they can check against the video evidence they have.
Why not confirm your belief that your son was not a victim?
YES! WE DID sit there for 45 minutes watching our children do something they enjoyed! Parents don't sign thier children up for sports to get them out of their hair. Some may, but don't judge and assume... Is that what your parents did? Sounds like you have issues. My daughter is in Gymnastics and I SIT and watch her do her class as well. ANY QUESTIONS? We care about our kids. Please stop making us seem like inadequate parents for signing our children up for karate. Now you're just being rediciulous.

That's 100% correct!! You and ONLY YOU are responsible for your kids, not some Karate teacher to teach him discipline or courage or respect. Where is your husband in this picture? Why couldn't he help his own son? Don't get mad because we speak the truth!
SOOOO quick to judge..wow...you two should get your own parenting school huh?..Here are all the hypocrits who are perfect parents! God bless you. I spoke with my son intently about this situation for your information. My husband is a captain in the FDNY. We are good people and love our children. We HAVE time to put into our child and have done that since the day he was born. Putting him in a sport to help him was not a crime. I KNOW that I am responsible for my child. I have always been there for him and always will be. YOU DO NOT SPEAK THE TRUTH. I understand everyone's frustrations, but you are just being rediculous!

This is a REAL sad thing for his family and friends, and none of you understand that. You are all making these comments and you DONT know him. HOW DARE YOU.. All you parents, are you trying to say you never left your child alone with someone? BULLSHIT!!! I dont have children but if i did i would of left them alone with him. He is a very good guy.Maybe you should all look back at what you wrote, and see how ridicouls you ALL sound.
Your e-mail address is "stop and think" - that is funny - maybe you should think about the 13 year old, the 21 year old and the 24 year old that came forward - you should think about the taping in the changing room, the bathroom, in his apartment - now wo is RIDICULOUS
What were we thinking

The blame belongs with Jimmy. And it belongs with anyone who was in a position of responsibility who had authority over him and had the ability to say "Hey! What's with the teen boys hanging out in your office? What's with the weekends spent with families of my students?" Unfortunately, he was my sensei and I couldn't very well go up to him and say "Hey buddy, don't you have a significant ADULT other?" But now I wish I had. Maybe if a few of us had spoken our minds he at least wouldn't have felt so enabled to do what he did for so many years. I think of the young kids training next to me and I feel like every one of us, every adult at Empire State anyway, let them down.

2 MCDOJOs exposed ,where little people get black belts but can do gymnastics but never really be given reality based self defense or real fighting skills. As an instructor I teach good touch and bad touch to my students,as kids. With the parents as witnesses. In our society you must always assume pediophiles are lurking, usually it's someone you know.So never put your self in a position that can be misconstrued by others.Be safe train hard.

you couldn't be more wrong.
those who teach karate or martial arts are often called teachers. or instructors. or sensei.
take a look at this search for "martial arts teacher" at google:
http://www.google.com/search...
notice the second result: The American Teachers Association of the Martial Arts.
you're making something of nothing here.
what about gym teachers? should they be called gym instructors? don't be silly.
Maybe you should learn how to spell before you worry about anything else.

I work at a martial arts school. Our Sensei first rule that we maintain his motto friendly not friends. We are not allowed to help the kids change. Can only help if the parent is present. We are not allowed to date students. We may not go over to their home and likewise they cannot come to ours. We also tell the parents they must stay for class or any event, parties, seminars etc. We are not a babysitting service. Martial Arts is a wonderful thing for any person to learn, however as an instructor, mother to often I see parents allow things that they would never normally even consider. As a mother I don't care how much my own children love any coach in any sport, they are kids and I would never allow sleepovers. That an adult would even suggest it would should bring up a Red Flag. My prayers are with the families.

A lot of the site were removed because of abusive comments such as the one on this site recently written By The Karate Kid. These sites are forums for an exchange of information, and opinions by mature people. Not for name calling and the such. Unfortunately Topix can't ban the people permanently.
