Bizarre statement Rob. Why make it?
Surely you don't approve of the ferocious persecution of people in Darfur.....or do you?

I would never have voted for Ellison in Congress, but on the face of this story, he is to be commended and hopefully it will somehow help to bring real peace to those poor people in the Sudan

Who gives a crap about Darfur when Americans are out of work. This would turn into Somolia faster than a slider fart.

Oh, so the government should be responsible for nannying its citizens, now? Socialism, here we come!

I for one applaud Mr. Ellison's efforts, along with his peers for standing up to those being persecuted. It's incredibly ignorant to complain about your own life with what is happening around the world.

Rep Ellison, you work in a very large building with a very large room in it where your fellow representatives "make stands" every day. You don't need to act like a spoiled college brat and get yourself arrested for attention. Now get back to work please.

Well stated! This is what an elected official representing the state of Minnesota is doing while supposedly working for us in DC??? Geez, this is an embarassment. Mr Ellison, you deserve a swift kick in the fanny. Get back to work and stop the "college boy" antics.

You do sound angry. Representative Ellison risks angering Arab nations that support Sudan. They must also be angry with him.
Rep John Lewis was also arrested yesterday. He was severely beaten protesting for civil rights in the 60's. More
angry people opposed to basic human rights.
I wonder if the sick and dying in Darfur are angry?
So few people seem to care about their plight. Rep Ellison is jsut trying to call attention to their dire straights.
If you don't support non-violent protest, at least give thought to helping someone less fortunate. Please do it.

Peaceful civil disobedience has been a successful tactic for great American leaders in the past. It is pretty neat to live in a country where we can speak up when we need to.

I applaud Mr. Ellison for caring about the people in Darfur and for using his role to draw attention to their plight.

I pray for the safety and well-being of the families in Darfur. Please join me.

He(Ellison) should be worrying about Minnesota problems. That's what he was elected for. This is just grandstanding to get himself a little ink and video tape exposure.

Once again one of OUR elected officials is not doing what his job is supposed to be. Rep Ellison represents the 5th Dist of MN. That is his job. What has he done, I have heard nothing. Since when is Darfur part of the 5th Dist, it is not.

We had better clean up our own back yard before telling any other part of the world how to clean up theirs. We the voters are the ones responsible for all of this, not just Rep Ellison, we keep putting them back in office to do nothing.

I truly believe there are enough problems right here for OUR elected officials to take care of. This is just another example of the "keep the voter's eyes off the real problem."

And there are major changes in the works as a result of their "peaceful protest". RIGHT! The legislators sat in there offices laughing at what was going on outside. No one even paid any attention to them.

The difference between Congressman Ellison and a regular citizen is that he took an oath of office:

"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God."

His first duty is to support and defend the Constitution of the United States, which means that he MUST follow the laws of our land.

By disobeying the police officers, he broken the law and willing violated his oath of office.

As a congressman, he is held to a higher standard and he has failed.

The American worker is being persecuted. The people of Darfur can solve their problems on their own. Keep America out of Sudan. This is your common talking down pints to make this act seem like something that make sense. This man is out of touch with America and so are YOU

Can you imagine the uproar if Michelle Bachmann was arrested for protesting/ trespassing?? There is an obvious double standard going on here. It doesn't matter what the cause is, elected officials should not get arrested.

What you’ve just said is one of the most insanely idiotic thing I’ve ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response was there anything that could even be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.

Michelle Bachman protests something every other week or did you forget she wanted members of Congress investigated for anti-Americanism. Everything she submits to the press for coverage is a complaint against something. Get a brain!

Many of the posters calling for Congressmen Ellison's head because he protested conditions in Darfur, need to get a life.

First, Ellison has been plugged into conditions here in America. All you have to do is tune into KMOJ Radio, 89.9 FM every once in awhile. He used to update Minnesota listeners on policies affecting our communities, I think once a week. I know KMOJ only plays black music, but if you're that concerned about what Ellison is doing, listen to the station.

Next, Darfur is a real mess, and it has been going on for a long time, only, America has never seemed interested in doing anything about it. Inspite of our influence around the world, America is still way too concerned about Israelis and Palestinians, who are probably never going to stop fighting each other, than any other region in the world. Why is that when we probably could bring peace to areas like...Darfur?
