My husband and I were thinking about buying a house ofallon and were wondering how the area was, what are the taxes like, how's the crime in the area, how are the schools? Any information would be helpful for us to make our decision. Thank you!

The area is nice. Crime is actually pretty low considering East St Louis is so close. I have a child in 3rd grade and has been to a couple different schools with no issues. Now for the negative...The taxes are pretty outrageous, I guess it is worth it because I enjoy living here. I really do feel safe and it is a good military community!

Hi there, I don't have such a great review of O'Fallon. I'm a long time resident (40+ years) of O'Fallon and I see the writing on the wall. We are taking the very same path as the rest of the metro area. If you plan on being here for a few years it will be OK. But if you're considering making this your home for life, I'd STRONGLY suggest looking elsewhere. Taxes are out of control, every time you turn around the schools are adding to the taxbills. Low income housing is is spreading like wildfire which is bringing a criminal element we don't know how to deal with. The Highschool, although presenting a shiny outer immage, is having terrible overcrowding and racial issues. Being in St.lair county, you're strapped with the bill for the Airport. I guess if you've never been here before you might think it's ok. But living here most of my life I can see the rapid deterioration over the last eight to ten years. O'Fallon will be just another West Bellvile in another ten years or so. headed

All of everyone's input was very helpful. Thank you so much for the information. We both really appreciate it.

I've been a member of the community my entire life. Yes the taxes are higher and yes they're is low income housing, but that is far inferior to the positives of this community. The schools are incredible, the high school is not nearly as overcrowded as it used to be with the addition of the freshman campus and racism was definitely not an issue. Most people here still have the small town type personality. It's hard to go anywhere on town and not see some one you know and them not socialize with you. Oh, and the low income housing I mentioned is contained to one part of town and by that I mean like 2 blocks. I'm 25 years old, been here my whole life and plan on having my family grow up here just like I did.

Stay away from the lower elevation areas and older areas. The sewers in those places are ready to cost you some money. They built where they shouldn't have and drainage is an issue in many places now. O'Fallon is like Monroe County will be soon. More and more money will be needed to cover the infrastructure they didn't make the developers pay for. White flight has its costs!

If you love racists O'Fallon is great!
