Boy, 16, arrested in stabbing death of 8-year-old

There are 25 comments on the www.2theadvocate.com story from Jun 11, 2010, titled Boy, 16, arrested in stabbing death of 8-year-old. In it, www.2theadvocate.com reports that:

West Feliciana Parish Sheriff J. Austin Daniel said investigators do not know a motive for a Thursday afternoon attack which left an 8-year-old boy dead, allegedly at the hands of a 16-year-old boy, on a wooded trail in The Bluffs on Thompson Creek.

The younger boy was stabbed repeatedly in the front and back of his body and had his throat cut, according to the sheriff.

Because of the ages of the victim and suspect, Daniel declined to release their names.

“It’s the worst thing I’ve ever seen in a long time,” the sheriff said, then added after a moment, “I don’t guess I’ve ever seen a kid kill another kid.”

Daniel said deputies received a 911 call about 1 p.m. from a carpenter working in the development who said a boy covered in blood came out of the woods and told the workers to call 911 and “that he had killed another boy.”

“The construction guys more or less held the 16-year-old until we got there,” Daniel said.

Deputies recovered the knife believed to have been used in the attack.

Daniel said the victim, his mother and his brother were riding bicycles on the paved trail, but the victim fell behind on the route.

“They did not witness the attack,” Daniel said of the mother and her other son.

The sheriff said the victim and his family were visiting another family in the residential and golfing development that borders Thompson Creek.

After the mother came back to where her son was attacked, she attempted to revive him with cardiopulmonary resuscitation, but the boy was pronounced dead at a hospital, Daniel said.

The sheriff said deputies booked the 16-year-old Thursday with first-degree murder and took him to a juvenile detention center in Chalmette for the night.

A mom out riding her bike with her son's and this 16 year old monster stabs her baby to death. I want to puke!! I know the unimaginable pain of losing a child at the hands of another and it's pure hell.. Lock him away and throw away the key! I'm also the mother to a teenager and I can honestly say if this my own child I would feel the same way.. Teenagers need to be held accountable for their actions and they need to be taught this at a young age (16 is a little late) I'm not hear to bash any parents. The 16 year old will spend life in prison but his parents can visit and write him.. That babys parents lost their world. This just makes me sick to my stomach! My prayers are with all involved!

From what I heard, there's more to the story. But I don't know how trustworthy the source is, so I won't say anything about that.
I understand the accountability thing, but it was truly a horrible, horrible freak accident (from what I know). He's not a monster; he totally would never do that.
If you don't mind, please pray for the 16-year-old's family as well as the 8-year-old's.

There was nothing accidental about this.

FREAK ACCIDENT??? The Freak part can be agreed upon. Accident?? Did he accidentally stumble onto this child and accidentally insert a knife into his throat? From what I heard --- Trevor admitted to stabbing the child. I guess he forgot to say it was an accident!! Michelle R., you say "he totally would never do that" HE ADMITTED HE DID!!!!

This monster should be locked up & put in a stone cell, deprived of every comfort in life. Otherwise, don't waste a single taxpayer dollar keeping him alive.
He stole away a childs life, a child from his family, a brother from a brother. The pain he has just caused & set in motion will never end.
Our disgustingly soft justice system has done zilch for deterring would be criminals. I hope our justice system does it's job this time. Maybe the parents should be held accountable to some extent? They do have a hand in creating children like this. Remember columbine... where were the parents? Where were this kids? Seriously, does anyone think for one second that he just went crazy in one second flat? No way, this kid has had problems for a long time.

How can you say it was an accident? I swear, people can make some excus, but a multiple stabbing and his throat was cut ....THAT'S MO ACCIDENT! what if the child that was terribly murdered your son or brother? Would you still say it was an accident? TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR ACTIONS!

To the person who said "he would never do this..." Ummm... But he did. So, I assume you are a friend or family member of the MONSTER that did this!!!!!

An "accident" NOT! And I agree with AmandaClaire, the person who wrote that comment has to be a family friend or member. You don't accidentally slit someones throat and stab them repeatedly in the front and back of their bodies. This MONSTER has taken away this precious child, twin, and son from this family. Yes he was a twin! This evil boy Trevor has ruined so many lives, he needs to be tried as an adult and executed! Yes executed! I said it, and I don't care how many bleeding hearts I have offended! Evil doers need to be responsible for their actions, no matter how old they are! Let the punishment fit the crime...no mercy for this beast, what mercy did he show for his victim!?

I know the boy who stabbed the kid to some extent. His parents are actually pretty invovled in his life. His family members are very kind people. That's still no reason to call it accidental. It's a mental problem and he needs help. When it comes to murder, I have absolutely NO TOLERANCE. That being said he should be locked up for a long time and get some personal mental help. Prayers go out to both families, esp. the one of the 8 year old. It makes me sick...

As always the offender gets all the priveledges that are out there to rehabilitate him. While this baby has NONE!!! This baby boy fought back and has this freaks hair in his hands. What other proof is needed to prosecute? While this precious baby boy had no options, on an outing with his family and just preyed upon by a freak monster that took him from his mommy and daddy! NOT FAIR to Jackson, he had no priveledges at that moment, but to fight like hell and this poor baby lost! So no I have NO sympathy whatsoever to the murderer and and his mental problems or what ever his rediculous reason for doing something like this. rip baby boy!!!

What a horrific event. Prayers for the victim's family as they grieve an unimaginable loss. This kind of cruelty does not just happen, there has to be more to the story.

.......It's a mental problem and he needs help? Umm, it's too late for help. It's time to pay the piper. And pay he will. I don't care what his past was, or what was wrong with him it is all irrelavant now.
The victim is dead. You might get away with the "needs some help" thing when it comes to domestic abuse, or drug abuse. Right now, he just needs lethal injection. It's too late for the killer. I believe completely in forgiveness. I believe completely in paying for your crime. I believe that some people will make a mistake that they can never out live. I believe that some souls on Earth, are so poisoned, that Death would be a humane thing for them. We can release them from their misery. We can release society from the fear they have of such evil.

I personally know criminals and victims and after having long bouts with the "justice" system...on both sides, believe that this young man who took the young boy's life, needs not only to be punished according to the crime, but needs to be publicized as an example to any and all contemplating doing the same in the future. It's a sad day when our children have no conscience of what is right or wrong. Something drastic needs to change. Examples need to be set that this is not tolerated. I'm so sorry for the loved ones of both families...as I said I've been on both sides.

I know how this family feels that lost their son. My son was stabbed to death in 1995. It has taken me 15 years this May to forgive the man that killed my son. This is a horrible thing to happen and my heart goes out to both families. Only God knows why this happened and all of us here on this earth will never know. I know that most have hate in their hearts toward the boy that committed this crime but we have to pray that God will handle this his way and may both families find peace in their hearts in time as I have done. My husband and I lost our son, our only child and the loss will never end but you have to believe in God to live through this, (both families). May God have mercy on this 16 year old boy and I pray that God will be with both families.

I too lost my son (not to a stabbing) but at the hands of another, and it is the most unimaginable, horrific pain any parent can imagine, it's like living a nightmare (because it is a parents worst nightmare) and your life is aultered in such away that simply breathing is difficult... This little boys family (that I don't know) are in my constant thoughts and prayers. I pray that Jack receives Justice, because this baby didn't have a choice but his killer did... I pray for all involved...

This is a terrible story. I don't know the whole story just from what I just read in the news articles. This is no accident. How can you go and start stabbing a innocent 8 year old boy that was enjoying playing out on these trails on his bike.
The 16 year old has to have showed signs of having problems. You know like cruelty to animals and stuff like that. Things just don't happen. To me in my opinion no matter how mental a person is if they kill someone there are a murderer and should be punished to the fullest extent of the Law. A jail cell. No contact with his parents and his cell should have pictures of that child. Here in Texas that was part of someone's sentence was to have a picture of the person he killed in his cell. I think they should have all types of family photos the happy times and the sadness at the funeral and also the crime scene photos. The person who kills is a monster and should be treated as such.
Also I do know some of this family of the murdered child , this little boys grandmother lived across the street from my mom when I was little.
