Ken Dawson facing ethics charges

There are 49 comments on the theadvocate.com story from Jul 20, 2011, titled Ken Dawson facing ethics charges. In it, theadvocate.com reports that:

The president of the West Feliciana Parish Police Jury is facing state ethics charges for accepting compensation from a prohibited source.

The Louisiana Board of Ethics alleges Kenneth Dawson received some $12,000 from Rural Broadcasting Services while the firm had a business relationship with the Police Jury.

The charges have been forwarded to the Ethics Adjudicatory Board for judicial action. An Aug. 5 date has been set for discovery in the case. No hearing has been set.

If the EAB finds a violation occurred, Dawson could face financial penalties equal to the amount he received from the firm with an additional penalty equal to half that amount.

“We are fighting it,” Dawson said, noting that he has hired an attorney to represent him in the case.

“At this point in the process we can’t have any comment,” Dawson said.

The case involves compensation Dawson received from Rural Broadcasting Services, the rural broadband-based television network owned by BDepew Enterprises LLC.

BDepew Enterprises provides national and regional news and events programming to the parishes of West Feliciana, East Feliciana and Pointe Coupee.

None of the details leading to the charges against Dawson were disclosed in the document forwarded to the EAB. The Ethics Board settled a case involving BDepew Enterprises’ role and information is laid out within it as follows:

In January 2009, BDepew Enterprises began billing West Feliciana Parish for half the cost of services provided to the West Feliciana Parish Community Development Foundation by the company.

From the next year, the Parish paid BDepew Enterprises $1,700 monthly for providing television broadcasting services to the foundation.

“In November of 2009, Mr. Dawson verbally contracted with RBS to provide consulting services in television broadband infrastructure deployment,” according to the Ethics Board document.

“From November 2009 through January of 2010, Mr. Dawson earned approximately $12,000 for services provided to RBS,” the document said.

BDepew Enterprises signed a consent opinion with the board agreeing that the firm violated the ethics law banning a person from paying a public servant anything of economic value when the public servant is prohibited from receiving it.

The Ethics Board did not levy a fine against the company. Company officials said they had relied on “a verbal interpretation” of the law.

No wonder Sims and Dawson didn't want any more lookee lookee at the bookeee bookkeee. What else is in the financial records?
I read about RBS and then it became RBCS.
When did the BDepew Enterprise, LLC get in the picture?? Is this the same as RBS or RBCS??

What about this "PublicPete".

Should the police jury pay these attorney fees?

How much did CDF give to Bill Depew? Did he enter into verbal contract with Steve Jones as well? Were there any other payments made by CDF to this company??
It had to happen

Now we don't have to ask ourselves WHY Bill Depew would not answer the three basic questions.

Still got the coffee pot on, Bill, for further discussions?

And Dawson is running for State Rep.? Guess he couldn't steal enough locally and hopes to move up to the state level.

October, people. If you don't take care of business and vote then you will deserve everything you get.

Mayor Nelson should have been a politician here. What's the difference?
Accepting large amounts of money to help get a multimillion dollar grant?(No not Cifer 5000)
Stays in expensive hotels in Vegas and Washington.
Meals at Chris Ruth's. Any sporting events>
I see the difference it was not an FBI sting operation in WF. Only legitimate political contracts. No written contracts, only verbal.

What about the contracts with companies that are supposed to be incorporated but really are not?

Need to understand where the "Theft" of anything occurred. On these forums, people keep making accusations of theft. Haven't seen any indictments or facts as to where these wrong doings occurred. Got the part about the denial of public records though I will say there are 2 sides to every story but, where is the theft. Ms. Coco was fired and paid restitution. Where did Dawson or Simms steal anything. I hear a lot of innuendo from a lot of anonymous and cowardly people but as usual, no hard facts. Not looking to be attacked if you don't mind, just asking for the FACTS. Where are they. It is easy to trash someone who is not allowed to respond. I am sure if there is dirt, it will be made very public but if not, not another word will be said. Remember, no matter how clean you may be, if people dump enough dirt on you, you will appear to be dirty. Let the legal system do its job before deciding their guilt (or innocents).

Here's the answer to your question. Where in the hell have you been?

Coco: convicted of theft from the Police Jury

Cobb: soon to be convicted of theft from his church

Dawson: soon to be convicted of theft from the WF Parish taxpayers

Shoemake: always convicted of trying to steal an IQ

Roach: no comment here. He's dumber than Shoemake.

My, you've certainly had a busy day. A dumb one but a busy one.

WHY DID YOU REMOVE EMAIL AND PHONE IT IS PART OF THE PUBLIC RECORD? Is it because it's SPAM? I would never have even noticed the email and phone, if you hadn't reposted that you were removing it. The original post is there with Ph and Email. What & Why?

Maybe you should change your screen ID to Nostradumbas.Like I said, know about Coco but, evidently you have the ability to tell the future on the rest of the "goings on". You have everybody else indicted, tried convicted and sentenced. Your world must be a very compact, dark place. Enjoy.

You truly are stupid. Can't you read? I said Coco was convicted, not that anyone else was. "Everyone" else was indicted and their fate will be forthcoming. Originally you questioned "theft" on their part. I answered your dumb ass question. You knew of no "theft" on their parts and I simply pointed out to you what you call "the facts." Seems like you are taking up for the crooks. Planning to run for the PJ, are you? You're surely dumb enough to make a good one. As a previous poster stated, settle down, Son. Relax. Two deep breaths and a mental suppository is just what the doctor ordered.

You may not have noticed that the "first" post was not visible for quite some time... until after I re-posted.

The Topix gods routinely eat posts which include telephone and email. I re-posted to ensure the URL was available to anyone who wants to see for themselves that Ken Dawson represented himself as the contact person for Depew's company. The telephone number and email address weren't necessary.

Later, the "first" post re-appeared -- nothing Machiavellian.

Sorry to disappoint you, but I post under the name Point of View only. As to elaborating, I believe you are a terrible editor interested more in starting crap than in editing it. Your censorial overview is quite obvious. Perhaps you just can't recognize it.

The post from the broadband grant application did not have any mention of a Depew company, as you imply. RCBS is the Tri-Parish Non-Profit, not a BDepew Enterprises entity. The Ethics article had no mention of the Non-Profit RCBS. Either you don't understand the companies involved or you don't care, and censor or slant to what ever you desire. You can receive information, but it is up to you if you are capable of understanding, are really want to. Are you interested or capable of understanding the truth? I doubt it. At least try and understand the differences between RCBS Non-Profit and RBS a Depew company, never mind, forget it.
By the way the only mention of the Depew name was that Dawson used a BDepew email address when applying for the grant for RCBS since I assume the Non-Profit did not have an email account established at the time of the grant. So maybe that is why you posted and changed and reposted so you could get Depew's name in there somehow? You should be ashamed of what you do!
