Well, ther's lots of Louisiana and Feliciana folks repulsed by Dreher's writing and his snarky entitled attitude.

Come on, ole Rod is WFP's self-appointed Joan of Arc in skinny jeans in the culture war against liberals, cheese eating sissy surrender monkey religions he's not a member of today, and schools outside his house crawling with who knows what kind of lice-infested thugs and sexual deviants. By courageously leading from behind, he's the only thing now standing between Louisiana and its complete loss of religious freedom and properly browned roux, behind being located somewhere between Antoine's and Lüke.

Mr. Dreher successfully got Mr. Couhig elected as the Parish President. His blog was successfully attacked anyone would dare question the validity of the Charter.

LOL!! Dreher did not get Couhig elected. I think Couhig's political handlers and his MONEY did that.

Dreher attacks almost everyone about anything, and not so successfully either. Remember his little pre-sampled sour cream Waterloo?

Many people in WFP consider it laughable to be attacked by Dreher. And that HRC is proving to be NOTHING to brag on either. It is costing the parish residents way more money than the old police jury system ever did.

Just look at all the ordinances they HAVE to publish now. Bet the Democrat's owner is getting FAT off all of those. The whole system of government has become more cumbersome and drawn out than it ever was BEFORE the HRC was adopted.

What ELSE are Dreher and his little toadies going to try to take credit for? Not that electing King Couhig or making the governmental process more complicated should be anything to take credit for. BLAME- YES, credit--no.

Wait...you mean Ignatius Reilly, Our Working Boy, and his jar of Noxzema wasn't the lube that pushed Kevin over the line?

I never knew Ruthie Leming had a "dark side":

http://www.theamericanconservative.com/dreher...

"Had I never learned what my sister really thought of me, and why she thought it, and had I never been forced to confront the dark side of her fidelity to Family and Home, I would have written a conventionally “conservative” tale valorizing small-town values. It wouldn’t have been a lie, but it wouldn’t have been the whole truth either, and readers would have been able to tell it."

So what was Ruthie Leming's "dark side"? Was she into something weird? It would be a lot better if she were around to say.

It really bothers me when people speak poorly of the dead. Ruthie graciously and selflessly served her family and community and suffered more than most of us can imagine physically and emotionally in dying so young while leaving behind her husband and babies. Please, please respect her memory and those who loved her.

That's what I'd always heard. That's why I found the phrase "dark side" so curious. What's he talking about?

Rod Dreher seems to like to rip on people, especially people who are more popular. Ruthie was more popular than him in his community, and Dinesh D'Souza is far more popular in his field of work.

Okay, after I got peanut icons over my last post in which I admitted I had not adequately considered the other [negative] side of the whole Rod Dreher issue and pointed out that it is foolish to maintain a consistent position in light of contrary evidence, I had decided to bow out of this thread [despite having started it] due to an obvious failure to communicate.

However, based on my reading of Rod's book and nothing else, I believe the "dark side" of Ruthie to which he refers was her intolerance of certain things or, put another way, her failure to rally behind things in which she did not believe. Some would consider this the virtuous maintenance of personal integrity. Depending on the issues and beliefs involved, others would not.

There's a lot of things still going on around Ruthie. One recent post shows Rod picking up Hannah in NOLA as if he was the man of that family. Another, "The Little Way of LeBron James", has something to do with Rod's book about Ruthie having something to do with LeBron James returning to Cleveland. Pauli, I see you're from Cleveland. Is that so? Whatever, Rod seems to be all over the Leming family these days, but maybe only in the same way you'd want to shake your leg to get him off. How do the Lemings feel about all this? Normally I'd think this was a private matter, but Rod keeps making it so public it seems okay to ask about.

So, if the Ruthie/LeBron James tie-in isn't successful, I'm looking for the over/under on some other equally tasteless marketing gimmicks Rod might decide to try in his desperation to flog a few more sales out of his book and stick a few more revenge shivs in his deceased little sister in the process.

"The Little Way of Ruthie Leming" craft beer in 4-oz. bottles, for those times even he has gorged on too many oysters.

"The Little Way of Ruthie Leming" condoms, for lapsed Catholic men turned Orthodox who hopelessly keep losing theirs at exactly the wrong moment but who still want plausible deniability when it comes to the Pill.

"The Little Way of Ruthie Leming" Edition Smart Car. This will obviously require Rod to undertake an all-expense paid trip to France and the Benelux countries to supervise the campaign and review the local cuisine in the process.

What am I leaving out?

Well now, Pauli, that still explains a lot of disturbing things I've been hearing recently, especially coming from south of the border, down there in the Gulf of Mexico to be precise.

It turns out Miz Sea Turtle had already written a book 5 years ago called "The Little Way of Miz Sea Turtle" about how her and her mama and grandma and great-grandma have been returning to the same beach to lay their eggs for generations now. Now this upstart punk pops up - she's alleging in her filings that he's a hedgehog BTW, probably because of that hair, while reserving the right to amend if new facts come to light - and tries to steal her "coming home" theme. Not only that, but hijacks LeBron James as an unwitting accomplice in the process.

Now she's hopping mad - well, hunching forward slowly mad - and, most alarming of all, she's retained the services of famed Mexican attorney Beto Mole (that's MO-leh; he's human) to press her case. I'm expecting the refried beans to hit the fan in SF any day now and make the Great Sour Cream Scandal sound like a fart in a dark wood if no one's around to hear it by comparison.

Pauli did you see this?

Before he started abusing himself to the latest issue of Archie comics, he took the time out to pull his pants down and drop this on all the South Louisiana and other Catholics:

"Catholic Bishops As Fifth Columnists In War On Religious Liberty"

http://www.theamericanconservative.com/dreher...

Looks like he's not even trying to pretend anymore about what he really thinks about Catholics. And the not so subtle takeaway is that the only reliable church for social conservatives who value their religious liberty is him and his Russian church, so come on over. I could see trying this sort of stuff in Minnesota with all their Lutherans who would just smile and nod at him. But South Louisiana? This guy's not the brightest bulb in the box, that's for sure.

Can we all say "iconoclast"? Or would "contrarian" fit better? Always remember, Rush Limbaugh didn't get filthy rich swimming in the mainstream. He feeds his dittoheads what he knows will keep them stirred up and probably only actually believes half (if that) of what he says. The same could also be true of Rod.

Sounds like something a few laps short of journalism. Except for a few book club biddies hopelessly in swoon, people are rapidly coming to the same conclusion about his books, too.

Some children carve attention, no matter what kind- positive or negative. Sometimes these childrend grow up into adults who have never outgrown that attention adiction. I bet everytime ole Rod checks Topix and sees how many posts there are on this tread about him-- he gets a rush. Think aout it.

I don't doubt that a bit, nor that it got thrown into warp drive the moment Ruthie was born. Nothing steals the center of attention like a baby girl. They're even cuter than cat videos. And then with Ruthie growing up interested in normal SF things while Rod was wanting to cook with the old ladies instead, there's no doubt he had to constantly escalate the attention arms race and the weirder and more different from Ruthie normal the better.

One difference I think people notice between Rush and Rod is that Rush has mostly hoed the same conservative row his whole life whereas Rod is always looking for something new and different each week, but there's never really any there there of himself personally invested behind it, just the shock value. Just the same old attention schtick for Maw and Paw.

Pat, he has become a professional anti-Catholic. It's pretty sad.
