Check it out. Good story inside about Rod, Ruthie, the rest of his family and why Rod has returned from, most recently Philadelphia, after many years to Saint Francisville with his wife and children. Good news for us.

Rod is also featured on the GBRBR Daily Report today. Take time out from fantasizing about pharmacy employees to consider how well this coverage reflects on our community. Rod's latest book about Ruthie Leming and Saint Francisville is out and he is doing book signings all over. He did his first signing party here at Grandmother's Buttons after a pre-publication event sponsored by our local Friends of the Library oganization. These are positive tributes to our community.

Didn't realize you were seeking accolades and recognition. OK, here it is. You are absolutely the most wonderful person EVER for pointing out to us Yo Hos that Rod Dreher has a book out. You must think us stupid as you had to point it out 3 (count 'em) 3 times. God knows we thank you for such gratuitous considerations.

Thanks for that reality check and apologies for my previous snarkiness. Anyhow, Rod will be a guest on the Jim Engster Show on WRKF 89.3 this Monday, April 22. The show is at 9 a.m. By the way, I am not seeking accolades for anybody but Rod and the good people in our community.

I don't think people in Starhill & SF realize how Rod is painting them to the rest of the country on his AmConMag blog. Basically as quaint, eccentric goobers from Hooterville, or Honey Boo-boos in the making, or the next Buck Wild. Rod's pals all over the north and easy coast eat this stuff up & he's feeding them all they can chow down. Nothing like the ever changing adventures of the little wogs in their native environment. Reading about SH & SF is like visiting the zoo. Heck, maybe others can get a swamp people reality show and make some big bucks clowning for the nation like Rod has.

At the risk of entering a non-productive argument, can you supply any proof of your assertions? Put a link on here that supports anything in your post.

We're not arguing, and I get why you might not understand why it's not possible for any link to support the offline perceptions of readers here, there, and elsewhere around the country who are laughing at you as the next Rod Dreher created Gator Boys or whatever. But, really, what's the problem? Isn't that what you really want, to put SH & SF on the map big time, whatever it means, however it makes you look?

Oh, wait...look here...

"Father Matthew, our Starhill pastor, believes that Mr. Ronnie deserves his own reality show, titled after his catchphrase,“Check On You Later.” True…"

Couldn't make up a grinning face like that if you had to.

Don't fight it, countrylad, Rod Dreher will make you and all your children famous, like Andy & Opie & Barney & Aunt Bea & Goober & Floyd...

And, really, what else would you have going for you?

billfr: Okay, you have ground your axe and attempted to insult me at the same time. Your link nor anything else on the American Conservative website, or any other of which I am aware, support your contentions. This is my last response to you. We apparently have no common ground and the fruitless argument accomplishes nothing.

Sorry you feel insulted countrylad and I already explained to you why no link would support private conversations among people around the country. Of course when push comes to shove what you accept as proof or don't is all up to you so only a fool would play your game anyway.

I just kind of feel bad for the people. I grew up in a parish not far east of you but I've spent many a happy day fishing False River and Old River and camping out up over Thompson's before they put all those houses out there & been through SF a bunch of times. It's just too bad the people there don't get portrayed as the good solid people they are rather than having some carpetbagging blogger paint them as one-legged strippers and goofballs just to score Ripley's believe it or not points with the east coast university crowd.

It's your town CL you do what you want with it. Maybe you can make some money off of Ruthie Leming too.

Every area has their "characters" , small town or big town. Are there funny stories to be told , yes! My group if friends would often compare my stories to Rosie's St Olaf stories on the Golden Girls. That doesn't mean that they thought we were a town of bumbling fools.

I've read a lot of Rod's works, and I never thought he was painting St. Francisville or Star Hill in a negative light. His recent book is a little too preachy for my liking though, and he exagerates a bit when it comes to some of the "characters" in the book, this painting a picture of some that simply isn't accurate , but I'm proud to say he is one of our west feliciana brethren and happy to see him succeed

And making so much money by portraying the community to look like a bunch of backwoods rednecks. Says something about a person who exploits the death of a loved one for a pocket full of money.

I too thought the book was a little "preachy". It seems he took his sisters death and his popularity with the right people and made a book deal. People lose loved ones everyday but books aren't made about it. She wasn't gone long and he had already had a book ready to be published.

I have been seeing Rod Dreher in various print and just this morning I heard a story about "him" on National Public Radio (83.9 FM). It appears to me that Rod is more interested in promoting himself than he is in eulogizing his sister or trying to promote his little book. He has always had a high opinion of himself. I just didn't realize that it has reached stratospheric proportions.
