Would downtown Minneapolis casino be a jackpot for Minnesota?

There are 10 comments on the www.startribune.com story from May 5, 2011, titled Would downtown Minneapolis casino be a jackpot for Minnesota?. In it, www.startribune.com reports that:

Gov. Mark Dayton said Wednesday a proposed casino project in downtown Minneapolis would have to split more of its revenue with the state, suggesting half of the proceeds should go to government coffers.

The share is substantially more than what casino-backers rolled out Wednesday morning at a celebratory press conference on Block E in Minneapolis, heralding an initiative to transform the beleaguered downtown mall into a glassy, Las Vegas-style casino.

Nah. The same amount of money will be spent. It'll just give the tribes less of a monopoly.

with the image that "gamblers" have...

you think anyone is going to be caught "gambling" in downtown? Where they may see their co-worker?

where are all the busses loaded with seniors going to park?

where are all the homeless going to go to get free drinks and a place to sit?

you think running a 24 hour casino is downtown minneapolis is a good idea?

I guarantee you it will fail.

People would rather drive 1hr away to hide their shame of gambling...

sure you will have few people dropping change in slots as they walk by....

but that won't keep it's doors open.
yeah sure

I think you will see less older white people going downtown to gamble. A casino DT will draw a very diverse crowd and I don't think the older white folks are going to be comfortable in that scenario. I'd say next to the MOA is a better spot. Also, I want a state run casino, not a private one which just pays us a small percentage. This is for the long haul. Giving away 75% of the revenue will seem like an awful lot of money when it is done year after year. Create a commission like the Sports Facilities Commission to over see operation. The DOT should be able to over see construction. Capture ALL the revenue all the time.

dooesn't matter if it's printing money, growing money trees, or betting on dwarf tossing...the more you give them, the more they'll spend.

Maybe all the 18 -23 year old kids will go downtown and leave T.I. and M.L. casinos to us "older" folks.......

And I don't hide my "shame". Silly comment, many people like to get together with co-workers/ friends and hit the casino, big deal, it's all fun if you do for mindless entertainment and not the mindset you are going to get rich. For most normal people that's just good old common sense. Why should we be punished due to a few folks that can't handle it? If that's the case, why sell alcohol, after all many people can't handle that either! Besides, it would give the tribes a run for the money! Nothing wrong with that.

A Casino In Downtown Minneapolis

WOULD BE A JACKPOT FOR:

; Muggers, prostitutes, Car theives, anti smoking zealots, Carjackers , gang activity, Bookies,Rolex Collectors,Drug pushers and addicts, Illegal Immigrants looking for a sanctuary city, and other trash in Minneapolis that has emulated Detroit Michigan for the last two decades,
The Vikings and the common citizen would make a good choice to stay away from "Little Detroit".

A city where the government hides from citizens inside of a fortress called Literally The governments center of bullet proof glass and a company of Police. A Block E of open gambling would certainly enhance Minneapolis's competetion to out do Detroit.

Your comment doesn't hold water. That's like saying everyone who drinks is an alcoholic. I've never had to borrow money to gamble, nor has anyone I've gone to a casino with. If you have a little extra money after bills are paid people should be allowed to spend it how they chose, as long as it legal that is. Stop being so judgemental. There are people that shouldn't gamble but that doesn't mean everyone is in that catagory.
