You lost your boyfried because he was walking on a highway in the middle of the night while wearing dark clothing. It's unfortunate, but true. The lady that was driving was not at fault. If you were with him, why oh why were you guys on the highway?

Stories like this make a strong case for expanding public transportation.

We don't think about the fact that we're rocketing forward in thousands of pounds steel. We're just on our way to some other place, tailgating down strips of pavement like over-sized, mechanized ducks. Hardly anybody on the road follows the 3 second rule.

Someone who drives an SUV has already made one poor choice by driving a vehicle that's far more deadly than others on the market. Why should we extend the benefit of the doubt?

Part of the burden of responsibility also rests on law enforcement, the department of transportation, the auto industry and those who craft transportation policy. Individuals clearly can't be relied upon to make good choices or to consider the safety of others.

You are nuts. Even if there was a bus line running on this part of Highway 10, it would be running at 1:30am. I doubt if there was enoguh traffic on that road at that time for there to be any tailgating. You are blaming the SUV for this accident? How about the kid standing on the road at 1:30 in the morning? You can't blame the cops for the kids poor decision. Of course individuals have to make the decision to not stand in the road at night wearing dark clothing.

I thought you said you were with him? You clearly were not 'with' him or you likely would have been killed too. It's my understanding that he was in the roadway wearing dark clothing. If you were there to pick him up, why didn't he wait for you at his place of employment?

So if he wasn't walking home from work, and you were coming to get him, why was he walking on the highway? He would be alive today if he would have waited for you in a safe place. Walking on the highway at night in dark clothes was an extremely stupid thing to do and it cost him his life. I hope you can find peace. It would be easier if you would not come to a thread such as this one.
