Hey I'm not getting paid over $100 grand a year with our tax dollars - I've got a right to question the guy. I don't like him personally, but I'd like to know exactly what he does to earn his over-inflated salary?
Or this guy

From SCS website

The city manager for the City of St. Clair Shores is appointed by the Mayor and Council and functions as the Chief Administrative Officer of our City.

St. Clair Shores was originally incorporated in 1951. As a Home Rule City, under a Council/Manager form of government, the Mayor and Council are responsible for policy direction. Day-to-day administration is left in the hands of the city manager. Under the terms of the City Charter, 10.052 (Section 3.13) entitled "City Manager; Powers and Duties", the manager is responsible for the following:

a. To supervise and direct the administration of all administrative departments of the city government except the functions of the city attorney;

b. To enforce all city laws, ordinances, contracts and franchises to the extent of his powers;

c. To act as the purchasing agent of the city;

d. To report to the council from time to time the financial condition of the city and such other matters as should come to its attention;

e. To attend all meetings of the council and its committees;

f. To recommend for adoption such measures as may be deemed necessary or expedient;

g. To exercise and perform all the administrative functions of the city which are not imposed by this charter or by ordinance upon some other official, and, in general, to perform such acts as the council may direct in the general management of city affairs.

That plus putting up with elected officials whose egos can sometimes be larger than their intellect.

Also, I'm sure your dislike comes from meeting him personally. You have, haven't you?

Yes I have had the unfortunate experience of meeting Benny boy. I would argue that it's not only elected officials that sometimes have huge egos larger than their intellect. I suspect Benny is suffering from Napolean syndrome as well.

Over inflated salary? Is he suppose to make 20,000 a year? Who would SCS get for that amount? Probably and ex-con. Mr. Hughes is an educated and experienced City Manager. I don't think his salary is too much. No I'm not related to him and I don't know him. I just think people who feel everyone should make a minimal living are most likely jealous of those who are doing well.

Yes I agree they are mostly people without a steady job and they like to make false reports to the police department about big men picking on them, just a few low-lifes as they are called.

I do believe a good city manager should make a decent salary. $100,000 is not too high for that position. But I also question the choice of Ben Hughes. How he ended up in the career of high management I have no idea, but it definitely is not his strong point.

Well just for your information, if you think Mr. Hughes is so great, why don't you take the time to look up his past in the Racine Post, from Racine Wisconsin, where he resigned as City Administrator, Feburary 16, 2009, when his tenure was not without controversy, he has been the subject of two harassment suits, one by fired administrative secretary Ms. Sandra Tingle and the other more recently by Racine Public Health Administrator Janelle Grammer. It states that Mr. Hughes was heavily tied to former Mayor Gary Becker, who was sentenced to 3 years in prison in a sex sting. Ms. Sandi Tingle says she lost her job two days after she accused the Racine city Administrator of sexual harassment, which was (Mr. Ben Hughes). This was in the Milwaukee News, May 21, 2009.

Hughes didn't just have problems in his last job, in the job prior to that in Wrightstown, Wisconsin he also had a harassment claim filed against him by the town's female Police Chief.
I talked with friends who work in city hall in Racine, Wisconsin and Hughes was told to resign or be fired. Whatever reasons he gave for leaving Racine are BS. I wonder just how he ever explained his large gap of unemployment between Racine and this job?
