The Shores must be in good shape if all people have to talk about is a dog getting shot. Nothing about blight, crime, or street lights being out.

After sitting through the city council meeting yesterday the two cops and the animal control officer needs to be fired. We have good cops in SCS but these 3 need to go. No hiding, desk duty etc. I purposely did not watch the video on how they treated this poor animal but everything the truth from the necropsy done on Lexi came out at the meeting and it was horrendous. No protect and serve. I would not call the SCS police for anything until these 3 bad apples are gone. People need to be held accountable and animal cruelty charges (which one speaker presented the data on and this sure qualifies for it) needs to be brought forth on these 3 city workers! A lot of citizens and other rescue groups were present and this is not going away. Shame on the new City Mgr-Lexi was not pit bull. It is not fair to target a specific breed. A dog was let out, it was freezing cold and she barked to be let in. Shame also on the neighbors who called as in our neighborhood we would go out and see what the problem is before calling the police. She was a lab mix. Actually unless she was a pure American Staffordshire Terrier you would have to get a DNA test (and yes they do them) to prove that she had American Staffordshire Terrier in her. Takes a bunch of cowards to keep on shooting a cowering dog after the first bullet hit her in the mouth totally making it impossible for her to hurt anyone and she never tried to bite any of the three. THEY NEED TO GO.

You know I was proud of Jamie. He got his point across. The 2 police officers and the animal control officer should be brought up on charges of animal cruelty and fired! They need to be held accountable as this is not going away!

I have to say, most of the audience speakers made good points and the city definitely needs to respond appropriately.

However, there was a couple notable left field people.....how dare someone liken this incident to the murder of former President JFK. Very bad taste, you should be ashamed of yourself. Especially given the recent 50 anniversary. Also a few said it wasn't a pit bull, are you blind? The dog may not be a pure bred but there is no doubt by the pictures of the dog it has as much or more pit bull in it than lab.

And out of all of the speakers, only one mentioned the owners piece of the at fault. Not everyone loves to hear a dog barking constantly early in the morning.

Also, councils comments were appropriate.

My thoughts....the cops should have given the owner a misdemeanor disturbing the peace (and whatever other laws broken) and then directed the owner to get the dog inside himself (with or without police supervision).

Couldn't agree with you more and I feel a full investigation by a 3rd party is needed. What I really have a problem with are the people that don't even live in SCS using the SCS podium to speak their opinions on OUR SCS issue. Go back home where you belong. If you need a cause to support then why not go to a City of Detroit Council Meeting and tell them how to do things? I'm sure they'd just love to hear from you. And the guy that came back to the podium a second time, what drugs were you on?

Because here in Detroit our cops don't shoot dogs on their own property for barking and snapping at them. Our cops at least have some balls. They call in the experts to capture a dog. Suck on that Detroit hater.

This is typical of the way the police dept and city govt do things. It shouldn't surprise anyone that the cops lied, that the animal control idiot lied. or the upcoming white-washing they will give it. Iv'e lived in the city my entire life, went to school with the police chief (he was bully then and still is) and have never had a good experience with scs police, ever.....

Please let us know how much money the city and police department had to pay for this incident, and how court goes for the police officer.

What about a long-handled net ??...This would contain a smaller dog
and could lift the canine into the animal control truck....A larger one
or even heavier-made one could work with a large dog until they can
use the clip- on pole for his/her collar...
.
Liver treats could distract the canines also.

Your right, in Detroit the cops don't shoot dogs for barking on their own property. The reason they don't is that the Detroit Police have far more important and serious calls to respond to. Instead the police dispatcher sends animal control to the scene. But by the time they get there the complaining neighbor probably has already shot the dog and the dog owner has probably responded by shooting the neighbor. Then the police are called to deal with it.

Walled Lake man kills his neighbor over loose barking dog. The SCSPD could have very well prevented a murder from occurring on Princeton.

Good. Then maybe the city of Saint Clair Shores will have to for once do something and not sweep it under the rug. These 3 officers need to be fired and brought up on animal cruelty charges.

Anyone at scs pd ever hear about a tranquilizer gun for animals rather than killing them? Perhaps all cops should use them rather than guns so innocent people stop being needlessly killed. This needs to be investigated externally, because any time cops investigate themselves they are exonerated.

What's in your trunk a Tranquilizer, stun, or a regular gun?

None of the above. And btw, Tazers kill people too.

A lot of cops just love confrontation, intimidation, and use of force.

Why not just make the dog or criminal pass out and go to sleep?

The answer is not state sponsored violence.

When my 9mm, which I have a permit to carry isn't in my waistband holster it's in an approved lockbox in my trunk.
