On facebook we have residents complaining about city employees placing notices in residents mailboxes telling them that there water meter is broken/unreadable and they need to have the new smart meter installed. Some of these residents are saying that their meters were not broken, that they are clearly readable. This happened a couple of years ago to my neighbors. They were lied to and told they had to have smart meters when their meters were just fine not unreadable as the post card stated. What is with DPW and the water department. When will they be held accountable for their actions? We are going to wait before we contact a TV station as I am tired of the corruption in this city. We will wait and see what our City Manager does. Whatever employees did this most recent blitz should be fired. Nothing less than being fired will satisfy us. If they want to be investigated by a local tv station than so be it! Shame on the water department for thinking that lying is ok. I can not believe that this still is happening. Evidently nothing has changed and as residents it is not ok.

I agree. OK new council what are you going to do about the above. This is not ok. The DPW/Water Dept can not falsely put cards on residents houses that their meters are broken and they are not. I also want that department and whoever is doing this held accountable. Their was a council meeting that Dave Rubello brought this up a couple of years ago so it should be held on tape that this was going on then. How can this be happening? Who is getting a kick back for these so called water meters. I do not think we should wait in contacting one of the tv networks because it is probably a lot larger than we think and the city manager will only shove it under the rug like he does everything else!

I agree. I think you should call every TV station on the dial and demand to know why SCS is replacing water meters! Do it! Do it now before any more of your council members get free dinners, new cars, color TVs, horse farms, trips to Italy and all the other goodies the water meter people are buying them!

Clearly there is a problem with how city employees of the water dept. are handling the premise for gaining entrance into a persons home to remove and replace the actual water meter. I have heard so many different reasons that have been given to the most least suspecting homeowner. Just another game being played out on the good people of the city. How many games are we entitled to be made part of before someone with the truth at hand comes forward and tells us just how we are being mislead and where the dollars are actually going. Or will we continue to be fleeced. Everything from milleage increases for public safety to Waste removal, Snow removal, city employee owned inspection companies, improper bid proceedures and all through this a water scandal has been perpetuated. If you are ingnorant enough to accept it then you are deserving of it.

The city wants to spend millions to save $70,000 a year on water loss from slow meters. How long does it take to get your money back on a $3.5 million bill to save $70,000 a year? Do the math.

Someone is getting a kickback!

Wouldn't the way the Saint Clair Shores water department is going about this some kind of fraud as they are lying to unsuspecting residents that the meters they have are broken just to put in these new smart meters. We will be watching closely as I think that everyone who did lie now and it looks like the same scam was done a couple of years ago needs to lose her/her job. Mr City Mgr you will not be able to put this one under the carpet like you did the water employee on city's time and with city equipment and other city employees pumping out his own yard and with Dumas.

We agree. They are putting notices on residents doors saying their water meters are broken when they are not. They are using taxpayers money to further there (Water Dept) agenda, which is putting in all smart meters under fradulent circumstances-the meters are not even broken. If the city does not deal with this then the city manager should go also. This is not acceptable behavior and what else are we being lied to about!

When are u babies going to man-up and do something about it! I don't want to read another pee-pee pants batch of whining about these MF'ing smart meters!

Do something constructive with your time like writing an email to all the investigative TV reporters and ask them to uncover the pay-offs to council members! The you can re-post it here and I won't think your all a bunch of do-nothing faries.

Show them how we don't need these new meters and what the real motivation is for using the radio-meter system (cancer). Demand answers.

Do it before the New Year while you've got some time off work. Wimps.

Well? What have you done sissies? Get off your diapers and start writing those letters to the TV investigators! I'll get ya started:

Dear TV station:(insert name of actual TV station here)

You people need to investigate what's going in St. Clair Shore. They are replacing water meters that are not bad as an excuse to look in our basements. The new meters also give you the cancer.

You are probably a SCS water dept employee. You should yourself go and tell the media as they are going to find out anyways who is getting kick backs and this way you will come out the hero instead of umemployed!

I agree. Who votes that the City Manager does nothing and sweeps this under the rug? What else is our city doing besides lying to us. How is it ok for city workers to mark perfectly working water meters as unreadable needing replacement simply to reach their quota, get a kick back or payoff. No wonder residents go up to the podium (people that I have never seen before) time and time again saying this or that person in our city lied to them about something. This is disgraceful!

I can't believe all of you are against these meters. Our city government is finally trying to get this city into modern day technology and you people are having a hissy fit. Grow up. You are all either a bunch of old coots who are scared of anything high tech (how many of you have even been in an Apple store? LOL), or you are conspiracy theorists who think everything and everyone is out to get you or give you cancer.

Again I say, grow up.

I'd rather be part of a Smart SCS instead of the Dumb one you people want to wollow in.

It goes further than just lying postcards. My last bill was for over $800. When I called to give the correct reading, I

was told I had to make an appointment to get a new meter installed or the charge would stick. It was an estimate

because they said my meter was broken. I told the woman that it wasn't a very professional way to do business, and

estimates were based on past usage. The smug woman (with whom I'm sure many of you have had the bad fortune

of dealing) said yeah but it "worked." I was so angry of being extorted and bullied that I cancelled my appointment.

This last reading I got a postcard saying my meter was unreadable (I could read it without my reading glasses,) and

when i called and spoke to Ms Wonderful, I was told to expect another humongous bill. I talked to the ass(istent)

manager who was so full of bureaucratic platitudinous rubbish, that all I could do was scream. He was full of himself

for having spent an hour on local television explaining the desperate need to get these meters into the houses. I

hope he was seen, and someone gives him a contract far far away. I made the appointment so all the bullying, fraud,

lying and extortion, as the smug one said, "worked."

The thing is, I have no problem with the new electronic meters. If I had been asked nicely, I would have said sure no

problem right at the start.

I noticed when browsing the city's web site that there is a ethics code pending. It made me wonder if this desperate

need to get all the meters installed was because the purchased bundle could not bear up under the scrutiny of the

provisions of the code should there ever be enough honest courageous councilpersons to pass it.

And to Dumb: This is one old coot that would never frequent an Apple store. They are notoriously overpriced. For

half of what I would pay for one of its machines, I can build a much better rig and install Linux. If you don't mind

being overcharged, they are good enough if all you want to do is surf, check your email and flame folks in forums.

But what else does a thirteen year old have to do?

Doesn't anyone know someone who works for one of the loval tv stations? This is fraud, this is unethical and should be investigated from someone not employed by this city. I can not believe that they are doing this. It is so wrong and no one is stopping them.

"Doesn't anyone know someone at a loval TV station"

Wow, want everyone else to do your work much? Walk your baby fingers across the keyboard and type "Detroit channels 2,4,7" into the google machine and write your own email! For sh*ts sake, I even wrote an example letter for you!

I'd offer to come over and wipe the poo-poo from your butt, but unluckily for you, I'm only interested in ridding the city of corruption and basement cancer machines.

I did my part, get off your Pamper and do yours!

My friend works for the water department and nothing is going to happen to those employees who fraudulantly put cards on residents houses to make them get the new smart meters. The water department employees are being encouraged to do this to get 100% coverage of the smart meters. They will do anything, lie, be untruthful etc., to do this and are being encouraged by management to do so. I can not believe that no one on city council is appalled by this. The very very few in the water dept that do not agree with these methods are too afraid to do anything.
