I think that Ken Podolski had excellent points last night. The City of Saint Clair Shores can not go on like it is. I have many family members who live in Warren and I they think that their Mayor Fouts is doing a great job. Is that why there were so many people in the audience last night. Was it mostly police and fire employees? I do not see any problem with consolidating as long as these other cities have the same well trained police and fire employees as we do. As long as they have the same equipment as we do. The employees of Saint Clair Shores are not any different than the rest of us working people who have had to take cuts. They should really also look at school consolidation. Ken Podolski made really really good points.(I think this is the first time that I have agreed with him) There is no way that the residents of Saint Clair Shores can take on the enormous tax increase it would take to do otherwise! Our neighborwood watch is doing great also! This helps to cut down crime.

Pete thinks he knows it all. He thinks he is the leader up there. I am very sorry I voted for him. He doesn't seem to work with others very good. Maybe I am wrong but that is what I see.

Looking at the training given and equipment available will definitely have to be part of the study.

Council can't decide anything about school consolidation. That's a school board issue, not a council issue.

You got that out of last nights meeting? It is amazing how two people can see things differently. I think he works great with others. He is definitely an independent thinker. But I guess you prefer a gang.

You need to start thinking on your own, and quit thinking Ken is looking out for this city.
As for what Curt was doing it took exactly one week (as new asst.city manager) for Smith to nail Curt, How many years was Ken city manager while Curt was having a feild day as DPW director?
Ken wants to consolidate P&F with other cities because moneys tight and the city will not be able to catch up with all the money being payed out,Yet Ken will skate this summer while we continue to pay his out rageous pension, and eliminate some of our services.

12.561.5 [Other amendments.]
Kenneth R. Podolski shall be excluded from membership in the City of St. Clair Shores Employees Retirement System and shall be eligible to continue his membership in the City of St. Clair Shores Police and Fire Retirement System.
As a member of the Police and Fire Retirement System, Mr. Podolski shall be eligible for those pension benefits provided by the Police and Fire Retirement System and shall be subject to the same terms and conditions for pension benefits and eligibility as the members of the City's [firefighters collective bargaining association ][ command officers association ]. Specifically, Mr. Podolski, as a member of the Police and Fire Retirement System, would accrue additional service credit in the Police and Fire Retirement System, would be eligible for a pension multiplier of 2.8% for the first 25 years of service and 1% for each of the years from years 26 through 35 years of service to a maximum of 80% times the final average compensation, which would include the compensation received as an Acting City Manager/City Manager and would be based upon the highest three (3) of the last ten (10) years of compensation.
This Ordinance [amendment, effective November 15, 2004] shall be applicable only to Kenneth Podolski and shall not serve to establish any right or precedent to same or similar benefits for any other employees.
(ord. eff. Nov. 15, 2004,ยง 2)

As far as I'm concerned Ken is no different than Curt, except Ken had permission to steal.

I think the city is trying to save the benefits that the city has by not laying off any police and firemen and have them working for other cities in the community.
Because we now have had a tax break with our new assessments the city thinks we will ok another millage. We can't afford another millage.
Land values continue to be too high while house values go down.
No one wants to invest in a piece of vacant property that is valued at 35 to 48 thousand and try to put a decent house on it and make any money.

Years ago the assessments increased so much that residents couldn't keep the loan payments and now
some of the luxuries we have will be taken away.

I will not vote for another millage.

I believe that if pay cut are are being sought, Ken should do as any good leader would and be the example and agree to reduce his future pension by 10%. Smith should follow, Chris Reyes, Tim Dorner, Greg Estler next, drop all their supervisors down, and then approach the lower level employees. Be the example boys...set the tone.

WHY IS PODEALSKI STARTING THIS WHEN HE WONT BE IN THE CITY TO FINISH IT. HE IS TALKING NONSENSE AND THIS IDEA OF HIS WOULD NOT BE IMPLEMENTED FOR YEARS. and the way he was as addressing the p&f in the audience was just crap. i thought nothing of what he said made any sense. podalski has no concerns for this city except when he gets to retire with 2 pensions and that his years of service will be limped into his scs fire pension. he has mismangaged this city for 5 years and he will be laughing all the way to the bank on your dime.

I agree 100%. If he cared, he would lead by example. Start at the top, and trickle downward. They have been very generous to themselves. Be the example.

Podolski stated that as Battalion Chief in Sterling Heights he was responsible for "an industrial area from border to border" and that "you don't need a whole lot of people-it can be done, believe me, it can be done." Would have been nice to know that 5 years ago!!! Why didn't you say something then? You've sat at council meetings for years and said no more than "Nothing to report." Thanks for nothing!

I agree. Like he did not know months ago that the city was in a deficit. A consolidation probably can be done but it should have been started a long time ago! Just like the police/fire to do the stare down at a meeting. Just wait. If a police/fire milage comes around they will be setting off their sirens going down Harper and Jefferson 24/7 to scare everyone (just like last time) so that we will vote for it. I WILL NOT VOTE FOR ANY MILAGE FOR POLICE AND FIRE. They are just like the rest of us they are not the "Untouchables"!

He did say that a lot." nothing to report" Maybe when they pick the new guy they should tell him or her that they must have something to report. I mean there has to be something going on in the city
