Well maybe if/when the organization/orphanage became aware that the child/childrens living environment was a safe and healthy they would rightfully return the child/children to the parent/s and then they wouldn't have to worry about such high medical cost. Something else to think about would be unnecessarily medicating children. Just because a child/children have/has "problematic" behavior does not mean that they should be medicated. How about trying to find out what causes the behavior and then attempt to make the child feel more secure. Including returning the child.

I just removed a child who attendd Mooseheart. The mother had placed her son at Mooseheart from the age of 4 to 6 as she was homeless and feared child services taking them. This is an extremely bright child who was sent home from Mooseheart on a mirage of anti-psychotic and ADHD meds. All of which they seem to not need.
The mother has been chronically homeless and continued to be unable to care for this child when mooseheart sent them back to her care. I am not sure what their criteria was for returning this child to its mother and not working with child services to ensure the mother had the skills to care for this child.
Mooseheart took this child in and clearly diagnosed them with everything they could while over medicating them to get more money from whoever paid for this child's care while at Moosheart (who paid is still in question). Mooseheart has ensured this child would be forever damaged by keeping them for two years not ever paying for this mother to see her child in the two years they were there. Now this child now suffers a severe attachment disorder which they will have to live with for the rest of their life thanks to Moosheart.
There is something very wrong with this organization. They took advantage of a mother who was uneducated and did not know the impact sending her child away would have on their ability to attach. She now admits to not being attached to her child because they were gone for two years. Mooseheart took this child to make money not to help this child. Mooseheart has a responsibility to contact child services so the family can be provided with services to help the parent care for a child. This is what they should do if they really cared about children's well being. Taking a child across the country where their poor parents will never have the money to see them is abuse and Moosheart should be convicted.
Shut this place down!

Mooseheart does not actually "Take a child across the country where their poor parents will never have the money to see them." Parents voluntarily place their children at Mooseheart, and they have raised thousands of children who become successful adults, and will bring a tear to your eye when they tell you their story. Mooseheart does not make any money, and it is ludicrous to say they overmedicated a child to make more money. The childcare costs are provided by the dues and donations of Moose Lodge members and Women of the Moose. As for the statement, "Mooseheart has a responsibility to contact child services so the family can be provided with services to help the parent care for a child". If the parent can't care for their child, the parent should contact whoever can provide them with services and then decide which option is the best one for them. This parent must have chosen to send the child to Mooseheart. Mooseheart takes responsibility for the child until the parent is able and ready to care for their child. I have done a lot of research on all of this.

Mooseheart is a good place. They help alot of kids and have alot of nice employees/volunteers. My buddies dad was a member of the Moose on RT 31 and if anything had happened to him, his children would have been taken care of so they could have the education and skills they needed.

Hope someone still views this site!! You are on the right path to find out the truth behind those beautiful gates! Ask yourself one question, why would they over medicate? It cost money and that is what drives everything. My experience at the cattle ranch was not to spend a dime. Even if they eventually found negligent it would be cheaper to settle out of court than to do the right thing. Think like a capitalist and then try and figure out how to capitalize on children and the laws that protect. Then think of the lupe holes one can hide behind for the sake of those very children they vowed to protect. The cases that were public knowledge do not even scratch the surface on what they buried, teachers, councelers deans, director generals all have done terrible things for the heart of the Moose.

You're a certified idiot. 15 Mooseheart employees since 1992 have been convicted of either child abuse, child torture, child molestation, child neglect (due to children dying), and a slew of other things. The GOVERNMENT funds this place because it's an "orphanage." They try to keep those beds full at all costs, so the funding doesn't stop coming in. Then add all of the Mooseheart donations taken up from every Moose Lodge in the country and wonder where that money is going to? This place is nothing but a scam and a great place to torture, rape and molest children, and should be shut down. The number of kids that's been raped, molested or fondled since 1992 is 72. That's just what's been "reported." There's also allegations stemming back to the 1930's and 40's, but of course those records have long been lost.

Mooseheart is nothing more than a money scam for the Loyal Order of the Moose. Period.

Mooseheart like any other place is not perfect, but having lived there myself along with my brothers and sister can honestly say it's not as bad as you say and not as good as you say. It was at one time meant ONLY for the children of deceased Moose club member/ members. I know that there have beem molestations there and that's terrible, but for the most part it is a good place for children who need help..it's just to bad that the perverts can weasel their way in.

I have been a member of the Moose for 26 years and had no idea there were problems at Mooseheart. I can't tell you how much I have donated over the years to help the children, but it's a good amount. I have no children and was always told it was a good place for kids. Needless to say I was shocked to read these comments. I just happened onto this site looking for something else about the Moose and now feel terrible about what I have read. Don't know what to think and will have to do some research myself.

i spent a fair amount of my childhood at Mooseheart and loved it. Mind you, that was in the mid 80's. Before the 1988 child abuse crap started. Mooseheart was a great place when i was there and i was very upset when my dad took me out. me and my sister begged to be left there. it was home. check out the prison system and see how many folks are there for molesting they're own children. all criminal activity, including crimes against children, have increased drastactly since the mid 80's. not only at mooseheart but every where. look at public schools and churches. so to lay blame on mooseheart is ridiculous. thats just the way the world runs nowadays. yes, it's aweful what happens to these children but blame cannot be layed on mooseheart when it's going on everywhere.

hey there "wrong" i dont know if you are certified or not but you are definetly an idiot. go live there for a bit before you pass out quotes you've read online. check the rest of the world. those kind of activities are increasing daily everywhere you look. public schools, churches homes. children get abused by everyone. yes i hate that it happens and feel horrible for those children that have it happen to them but to blame mooseheart is STUPID. instead of trying to dig dirt on mooseheart you need to pull up statistics on child abuse and molestation as a whole. it happens more in private homes than it does at mooseheart. its just how this world works nowadays and it sucks bad but it's not moosehearts fault

Okay, Mooseheart is not a good place, there are SOME good people there but I have witnessed the child abuse/molestaion myself first hand. I can assure you, this is not a good place. Thye tell a lot of the kids who are not in sports and who are not very intelligent that they will basically never amount to anything. If you are not in sports and if you come from a bad backgrond these people are going to judge you, not help you. I attended M.H for 3 years, I worked 8 hours a day 5 days a week ALL MY CHILDHOOD SUMMERS, wanna know how much money you make in 3 months during all that?$400. That's it. I make more then this in a week on a paycheck now. The things they do here at this school are not right. When I finally had enough with M.H I up and left, leaving my belongings there with a promise from Scott Hart that all my things would be fine. The only problem was, my things were not fine, when my things arrived in the mail I was shocked. Half of my clothing that I had bought over the years and had gotten for Christmas, was gone. A $750 camera that my grandfather had bought for me not even 2 months before I left, gone. A $500 skateboard, gone. Hell, even about 4 pairs of my shoes were missing. These people are very good at manipulation, don't fall for their bullshit.

Since perverts tend to flock together, I woulkd strongly suspect others in the management of Mooseheart are not what they claim to be. A pedophile was promoted to the highest position the have. Do you think this was an accident. Pedophiles flock together. They have their own organizations to help each other find victims. Don't be so naive about whats going on FOOL.

I have a relative there whom I have custody of. She is getting exceptional care and guidance. Her past if from broken homes, abuse, neglect..and Mooseheart is and has been her saving grace. These people are very transparent. Abuse is everywhere. Don't go to church, bishops abuse children. Don;t join scouts, scooutmasters rape boys. Don't go to summer camp, you'll get raped. Don;t ride a school bus, you'll get abused. I could go on and on and on and on. It is everywhere. Our children are not safe with anyone but their parents....Oh....well maybe not. Many parents these days are abusing their children........Where can they be safe ? Really people ! Mooseheart is a safe home away from home. It provides these children with guidance and care unlike anywhere. Are there situations where it has happened ? Probably. Is it fail safe? No. But no where is, is it?

If you read this thread, you will have n excuse when the inevitable happens. Find a safe place to keep your relative that does not have this cloud of child abuse and molestation hanging. You are the guardian of this child. How would you feel if the worst happens. You would be morally, if not legally, responsible. I was a member for 30 years before I found out how this organization operates. GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF THE SAND and save this child now.
