Re-hashing this old nonsense again? 75 or more years ago you couldn't find 3 people who did not know smoking is bad for you. The tobacco companies have taken enough abuse. Either grow some balls and outlaw tobacco, give up the massive tax revenues, and shut down the production, or STFU!

The only people who benefit from all of this crap are the lawyers.

Here Here, I agree, either shut em down, give up the billions in tax revenue,(there goes the easy target to balancing budgets) or leave them alone. This on going battle only makes idiots like the dolt Cerisi(sp) rich!

MN pulled in $86 million in tobacco taxes last year. The high tax rate is supposed to help offset the cost of smokers to the health system. There are a few problems with that. First the money goes into the general fund and does not actually help pay for smokers medical costs. Then we have studies that show smoking (and other un-healthy living) does not add to long term health care costs. It is actually healthy people and our long term end of life care that is costing the system so much money. People with un-healthy habits tend to spend their entire lives paying into the system, and then die before they recover their investments.

Anyone dumb enough to smoke deserves to be taxed to death.

In today's world, it is also most difficult to find 3 people who don't have an unhealthy habit or two. Shall we then begin taxing, candy, bread, cake, mountain climbers, amateur pilots, anyone who uses a cell phones, indoor tanning fanatics, etc?

Taxing activities perceived as dangerous, or unhealthy, or as vices is nothing more than a grab for money hiding behind the pretense of helping or protecting people from themselves.

Oh, and people who are dumb enough to go in to smokey bars to drink alcohol (a known killer) and then bitch about the smokers should also be taxed to death.

People that drink and people that smoke should both be taxed heavily. Both cost our society dearly.

Smoking isn't legal in bars in most states anymore, by the way, as it should be.

If you can afford to drink and smoke, you SHOULD be paying more in taxes. Tax booze and tobacco, not food.

It was legal in bars until a bunch of whiney health nazi's and their greedy lawyers got involved. They should have left it to the market to decide since it was already moving in that direction with bar and restaurant chains banning indoor smoking without any need for changes in the law. We can't let people make their own choices now can we?

Why not foods deemed as unhealthy and all the other dangerous activities. Obesity is considered an epidemic today. It costs us umpteen billions in health care. Do we punish people for not going to the gym and eating fatty foods by increasing their taxes? Will you make them go to weigh stations and tax them by the pound? Where do you stop?

I agree with most of what you say, but I don't think you go far enough in regulating behavior. That is why I was happy to see that the Democrats in congress are working on a bill which would require all prospective brides to report who it was that took her virginity and list all subsequent sexual affairs by date and name of the participant(s).

Only a right winger would make up a story that discriminates against women like that.

Yeah, let's not tax your addiction, hypocrite. It's nanny fascists like you that love
trying to make others dance to your tune. Arrogant bastards like you are what's wrong with trying to shove everyone into the one narrow model of existence you control freaks covet.

A new study of 7 billion humans suggests that 100% of them will die regardless of their habits. This is no more then a vice taxe under the pretext of recouping funds for increased medical costs. What if we had a tax on pre-marital sex? How about children born out of wedlock? How about a homosexual tax to recoup the increased cost of treating their STDs?

Pointing out you telling people to grow up while hypocritically posting childish insults is "abhors childish comments"? You should also change your post before you spam it too many times. You are calling yourself a broke, stupid, and no character loser.

What is really too funny is why the left doesn't actually use these funds to pay for those with smoking related illnesses.
