Ex-youth baseball coach admits attempted sexual assault of player

A longtime Freemansburg Junior Legion baseball coach admitted Wednesday that he tried to sexually assault a 14-year-old player over six months last year.

How long was this guy in the FBTAA organization? Who were his close friends in the organization? You do not get on the board of the organizaton without having friends. How many kids has he, over the many years he was there, "taken to his home?" Sorry but, an unmarried man who lives with his parents in his 40's and who takes certain of his players to his basement (who coincidentally start on his team) is suspicious from the get- go. Was there no one suspicious in the organization? Of course, they must have been. Where was the investigation, questioning, and control by the organization? A simple rule that states that coaches are not allowed to be alone with a child off the field and still coach at the organization would have sufficed. That is provable for termination of a coach without having to embarrass the child. What if a child is too embarrassed to come forward about what happened to him, its tough luck for the kid? Lets face it, there are preditors out there. It is not sufficient to say it was the preditor's fault alone, because parents do not drop off their kids without some implied assurance that the organization is doing all they can to make sure that their children are not being preyed upon by deviates that the organization put in charge. Needless to say, the criteria for determining who starts on an organization team should not include submission to inappropriate touching by your coach. How many is what I would like to know. How many?

Well this seems to be the only comment that has ay brains behind it at all. He was in the FBTAA organization for about 20 years, also coached girls and girls basketball at Sacred Heart in Bethlehem before that. Also was jv basketball coach at whitehall and liberty h.s. Predators blend in to society on an everyday basis, therefore how could anyone be blamed except him? Also sports activities are not DAY CARE? So to all parents out there be aware of what your child is doing and who they are spending there time with. This guy did have many friends mostly is the sports world, and yes he always had his special favorites every few years or so. I will say this, very brave young man to come forward and stop this MONSTER before he ruined any more lives!!

The perpatrator is never at fault. It was his upbringing, no its was his colleagues that didnt stop him, also its the internet's fault, rap music and George Bush.

The mindset you are perpetuating is doing a lot of damage as well.

Responsibilities for each man's actions lie at his own hands. I coach youth sports (well, 15 and 16 year old high school boys) and I have, on countless occasions, picked up players before games and practices and dropped them off at home afterward. The parents know that their children are with someone that has had a criminal bachground check, Child Abuse Clearance and FBI Fingerprint Scans. The District I coach for requires that that be done just like FBTAA.

Of course all of my clearances and checks come back clear and I was approved by the school board. At that point the hiring organization has done their due dilligence, at that point if the guy is a creepy perv, you can't blame the School District or FBTAA for that.

We are each responsible for our actions, end of story. We can't keep turning the offender into a victim of circumstance.

Listen Abe. Terminating the inquiry on the pedofile who does these things is clearly not adequate to protect society's children. Hey shoe, you must have your shoe up your butt? What else would you have any organization do? They run a background check, and who said anything about ignoring inappropriate conduct. Are we supposed to assume every coach that volunteers his time is a sicko? Good luck ever fielding any sports teams. There are great coaches out there, just like there are bad people in every walk of life. Dan is a sicko, but he belonged to Sacred Heart parrish, coached basketball there, also at whitehall and liberty high school, all the while he was down at FBTAA. Now I can see why you chose "whatever" as a name. Who said anything about blaming the children? Who said there are not good coaches out there? Are you suggesting that we need to take sickos on our township teams to have enough coaches? I don't think so. Taking a "whatever" attitude is sure to create more victims, maybe not from this guy anymore, because he will be on a background check, but the kids deserve our utmost diligence. What's the harm in having rules such as I originally suggested if it would prevent sexual assualts on children. What kind of person would object to that?

I'm am in no way excusing what this slim ball did - HOWEVER - I do find it amazing the extent parents will allow their child to go to for the sake of sports - the whole thing is sickening! Wake up parents and stop allowing these sickos to infiltrate your children's lives. This child should never have been allowed to be at a coach's house. Parents needs to take their own kids to practices and games and STAY THERE! Furthermore, as previously posted by some, the sports organizations need to make a blanket policy and take responsibility - coaches may have absolutely no contact with players or parents except on the field, and then enforce it. No tolerance policy - break the rule and your out!

Parents, for the sake of your child, re-evaluate your priorities - it's just sports, and when your little Johnny is done with highschool odds are against you that it will matter what position they played, or how often!

The guy is a scumbag and he is going to prison to get what he deserves. There are most likely other victims we will never hear about. Also ponder this: He lived in his parents basement forever. Had they no idea he was bringing these kids home, and only hanging out with kids, playing favorites, taking the kids shopping for gifts. I know all of this to be fact. His parents are very nice people but how could they think this was ok...I've known this gut for over 20 years, and he always creeped me out. But to think he was molesting kids...never, why would anyone want to think something that horrendus?
