My daughter had a brand new baby. I think the baby was about 6 months. My daughter started acting shockingly lackadaisical towards the baby...she seemed like a completely new person had entered her body. We had a lots of talks to my daughter about finding out if there was anything wrong with her. We thought it was post partum depression. She just dug in her heels and we couldn’t get though to her....nobody could.
We are absolutely cruel and vicious parents...we got a lot of miles on us. She was living in bratleboro. We called for a meeting with a social worker. We told her the story...we basically said we want you to scare the living hell of our daughter. If we have to file charges on her we will, and we did. Were we fully truthful about the charges I doubt it. We asked for the social worker to call in my daughter for a meeting. We told the social worker she is a young and inexperienced women. You need to tell her we made a complaint against her for endangering her baby...tell her the state is getting ready to take her to court and going to take her baby away from her. We were lucky the social worker went along with the game plan. Everyone knew, except my inexperienced daughter, there was about a zero chance that we could take her baby from her. The meeting absolutely devastated my daughter...the deal was she would enter the Brattleboro Retreat and all the charges would be dropped.
They quickly discovered she had hyperthyroidism...she had excessive thyroid hormones coursing through her system. They suspected hyperthyroidism when her heartbeat was around 140 beats per minute on admission. A outside hospital destroyed her thyroid with radioactive iodine 131. She is going to be on artificial thyroid meds for the rest of life. She quickly recovered and she was and is the perfect mother to her children. We all made up, luckily my daughter doesn’t have a clear memory with what we did to her.
Does the ends justify means, as long as it works and are you acting in the best interest of somebody else...but you got to be strong enough if it blows up you can live with the results. We just couldn’t live with the result of following the rules and doing nothing...watch our granddaughter fail. You got to be between a rock and a hard place...
It was the neatest thing in the world going back to the child protective services person...telling her we found out what was medically wrong with my daughter and we found our old daughter again. We thank her for her help!

Dragging a DCF social worker into things like this could have been risky, because they work so closely with law enforcement.

appalled wrote: this is in regards to #103... before you start applauding Ms. Craven's character, you need to meet her. She is amazingly fantastic at pointing her finger as well as screaming for protection when someone has had enough with her obnoxious mouth. I agree with all the others before me who defended Ms. Wilder because she is, by all means, innocent until provent guilty. Of course I am not surprised to see Ms. Craven threaten to air dirty laundry. After all, she single-handedly destroyed her "fiancee's" relationship with his children because of her inability to stop her "oral overflow" and at the same time she almost drove their mother crazy with all of the foolish text messaging(my friend changed her phone number). In her mind everything she does is perfectly legitimate but one day the tables will be turned at karma will get it's shot at her. It is true that I do not know these people. I have only been in this area for a short time, and I usually stay away from these troublesome situations. I like a harmonious life. Therefore, I am going to go away and let you who actually know these people worry about it all.

Not all people "hate the goverment"...or naturally mistrust government officials. Rememeber my wife works with a lot of DCF officials over in Keene...we had a pretty good idea with how they worked.

It is about time the Vermont State Police take large actions to take the want to be thugs of the streets of Southern Vermont. Brattleboro used to be a safe small town. Now downtown Brattleboro is very unsafe (especially at night) and run by the drug dealing community. Start at the source of the problem and clean up Brattleboro.

I also agree with appalled I know she has a mouth on her and before she judges anyone for mistakes maybe she should look at her own behavior.I mean she posted something on her sisters facebook who is only 16yrs old the way she talked to her because she came to there sisters defense was agressive she basically told her little sister she would end up a coke w...e and that was posted for everyone to see..so as far as i can see she shouldnt cast stones at anyone because her behavior was unjustified I dont feel that talking to a child who was defending her sisters name was necessary.I am a friend of this 16yr old we go to school together and if i read it imagine how many others did to. i think she needs to grow up and get over what ever happened in the past ,move on already

One of the ladies arrested Tammy Birkheimer raped my husband when he was 13. She was 27 at the time. She even allowed one of her children to call him daddy. She's a nasty sick person. He is now 25 and has never spoken a word of this until mid last year. He was so ashamed of the fact that he's a male and was raped. Also she knew she did wrong cause she made him promise to never speak if it cause she could get in lots of trouble. So she clearly can comprehend right from wrong. Now my poor husband has to live with what she did to him.

I left because of the downhill slide of Brattleboro. Nobody cares enough to fix anything. Darkness rules there.
