What on earth happened to the book store?!

It looks like a Barnes & Noble. It has *maybe* one half of the selection that it used to. And as if that isn't bad enough, the staff member are cold and the owner is even colder. Ugh!

How sad.

Ask anyone. I agree. Aside from the fact that it looks non-Vermont/big boxish, WHAT HAPPENED TO THE BOOK SELECTION?? Rather empty shelves with many books facing forward...to diguise the empty shelves.

RIP

The selection of books and genres is horrible!
I weep when I remember the shelves and shelves of tightly shelved books stacked high and low.

When will retailers (both big box and independent)learn that selection/immediate availability is EVERYTHING!!

Very true. Especially these days when it's very tempting and easy to just go on Amazon.

The clerks and the owner are just not nice people. It's uncomfortable just browsing in that store. Very sad.

Is this store going out of business? I tried to do some holiday shopping there, and the inventory was very slim. Anyone know?

I miss the old shop and the people who worked there! I fear it will never be the same.

Check out the new book/toy/art supply shop in Bristol!
It's worth the drive.

They were nice, approachable people. These people are not so much. Ugh.

Book store? WHAT book store? I've never seen one in Vergennes, never heard of one in Vergennes and think it must be very well hidden and a best kept secret.

My family goes to the library or orders online.

If the book store has cold employees, it fits right in with a few other local businesses with employees who act annoyed and constipated with potential customers. If it takes manners to grow a successful business, I guess they must own the shop buildings as that's the only way they would stay standing.

It's a pity!

I went to the book shop this weekend. I hadn't been there in weeks.

Same place: Nasty! store clerks.

Different place: The place is FULL of trinkets, which you have to pick through and move around to find BOOKS!

I have a Kindle. I still love real books. But I'm not going to shop where the book selection seems like an after thought and the customer service is pretty bad.(The service is better at Barnes & Noble...and that's pretty bad!)
So true

This is very true. And, it is very strange. I have actually heard store clerks AND store OWNERS whine when folks walked in the door ten minutes before closing time. What? Really? And, the book shop is right up there at the top of the "nasty clerk" list.

So few books. Remember when the shelves were full of all kinds of books, all sorts of subject matter and priced so there was something for everyone.

(Oh, and the sale table. Always good finds!)
