Although it appears we can't stop health care modernization at this point, we vow to make it as difficult as possible. We owe it to our insurance industry backers. We have already gotten universal coverage and the public option removed, and we have succeeded in diverting the discussion several times onto unrelated topics like abortion and immigration.

We don't care what the Congressional Budget Office says, we will continue to portray any health care modernization as a Democrat tax-and-spend extravaganza.

And we don't care what other opinion polls say, we've done our own polls to show that the American people don't want reform and are happy with the way things are now.

"This formula adjustment will ensure that Vermont is not disproportionately burdened by a further expansion of the Medicaid program. "
==========

Good to hear the working people in vermont will only get the same burden as everyone else paying for more FREE medicaid for the unmotivated.

why work year round, just go to the winter job in the ski tourist industry, get layed off in the spring and collect unemployment for 6 months and than scrap by selling firewood for cash until winter rolls around again while letting people that work year round pay the taxes and cost of medical care for part time workers.

Get the spring and summer off every year and don't worry about a thing.

We will need the free clinics after Bernard and crew are done wrecking the economy. Him and his pals have controlled congress for 4 years and it's only getting worse. Maybe the free clinics can double for homeless shelters after everyone is on the gvmt. tit and there
is no private sector! Throw the bums out!

So Senator for Life Leahy and Comrade Bernie sell their votes for benefits availabl;e only to Vermonters it's OK but God forbid an insrance companies does the same thing and it's an uproar!

Who pays for all this free stuff? It is the citizen/taxpayers of the other States that don't recieve the benefit. What a ripoff and blatant vote selling. The Senator from Nebraska and Lousiana did the same thing on a smaller scale. This smells bad but where is the indgnant media???

Yes, this is hope and change we can believe in!

TNB... Insurance companies DO NOT REPRESENT THE PEOPLE. Insurance is an "industry". A company. A self serving, money making entity. Lobbyists should be banned and made illegal. They are the source of corruption. Not the good Senators from Vermont. If you don't like your representation here - move to Texas.

Come on, people - It's called "divide and conquer". Whether you support single-payer or not, the debacle presently masquerading as the US Congress is pitting state against state, people against people, and they are bribing us with OUR money. The Constitution is in tatters, we are being treated like spoiled and very stupid children, and WE ARE FALLING FOR IT!!!

"The Constitution is in tatters"

equal treatment under the law means nothing to the people who cried about Bush. The golden insurance policy tax is only applied to people without the political connections to get exempted from it.

Could anyone picture whole groups of people being exempted from a tax by race, religion, sex or national origion ? I guess if somebody is a longshoremen or in a few other occupations it's ok to give them special tax treatment and they have exempted large numbers of government employee's from the tax.

What we have now is the some people pay and the polically connected don't.

So you are saying that vote selling and bribery are OK for Senator for Life Leahy and Comrade Bernie but that lobbying should be illegal?

Neither is right nor beneficial to taxpayers and I don't have to move to Texas to know that!!!!

Corruption in DC is unacceptable, even if it supposedly benefits VT. These Senators are despicable, and simply corrupt.

Look how we are groveling for $$$ from DC, and it is only going to get worse, as the growth of the entitlement society expands, under the tyrannical lefties that are currently in charge.

As the revenues to these schemes dries up(just like it is in Detroit, and California, two perfect examples of the leftist experiment), things are going to change, in a very big way. Back to freedom and personal responsibility. Lets al hope it is sooner rather than later.

Typical projection from the leftist that is gfnb. Thanks for more lies.
This is not about "modernizing medicine" it is about complete and total control of every aspect of each private citizen's lives by the freaks in DC. Everything that effects anyone's health is legislated, taxed, and penalized, all at the whim of a small group of leftists in DC. They are also going to tell you whether you deserve to be treated, or if you are too old. The "Death Panels" are very real in this legislation. How is that "modernizing " our health care system???

As for opinion polls, they are ALL overwhelmingly AGAINST this takeover of all our private lives. And the leftists do not care.

Be prepared to pay a fine or be put in jail if you do not conform to their unwanted tyranny.

Just another steak in the heart of the American dream. Nothing could possibly make it worse, except for the next 2 death nells from the Leftists. Wait till next year when we "legalize" 15-20 million illegal aliens and initiate "cap and trade" legislation. Then we will be just another bankrupt, third world nation, at the mercy of China and Russia and Iran.

Explain then why insurance company stock is going up in value with the likely passage of this bill? Since they were one of the reasons we needed health care reform. Oh, that's right, the government can't be insurers so they get an insurance company to run it with a captive audience, the U.S. taxpayer.

If I'm not mistaken, the tax increases included in this bill will start immediately while that actual "benefits" won't begin until 2014.

You are mistaken.

Various benefits go into effect immediately and others in sequence starting in 2010, etc, thru 2014 in the Senate Bill. The House version starts benefits in 2010, etc, thru 2013.
