For most Americans, Monday is national Holocaust Remembrance Day. For Charles Stein of Springfield, Va., who escaped Nazi-occupied Austria as a college student in 1938, that day is also Feb.

I encountered my first "tattoo" in Tel Aviv in 1976. It was on the forearm of a woman who worked in the hotel restaurant. That experience REALLY brought the Holocaust home to me. Prior to then - I believed it, never doubted it but had never met an actual survivor.
