Bet he could get a good deal now lol
Southern Village is so sad. It's mostly empty. Does anyone remember the grocery store that was there briefly in the nineties? Not Big Bear. It was at the other end of the shopping center down by where Rite Aid used to be.

Hi Harleyman - haven't heard from you in a while ;)

Hi seeker. I have thought about the old days a lot lately. Others that i know knew Manual were the Reif's.
Harry Straight, the Millers, and Gus Gaier (Gus
has passed away. I remember a converstaion with
Roger Ryman when he told me of Manual's death.
He said "hey Manuals not dead to us he is just
laying up there on the hill (cemetary) waiting
on us. All during Jr. High and High school we
were friends with Manual. Other memories are coming
back to me. Keep in touch.

Nope you're to far south. The swan aka Dirty Duck has been there for ever. This place was on the downgrade just before the lake going north. There is a parking lot there now with some trucks sitting around. When it first opened we would leave the lake Bar and stop there on the way home.A couple of times they had a band. A guy who lives in Christiansburg told me yesterday that it burnt down but he couldn't remember the name.

My mom worked at the BonFire in the 60's. I think the Redmonds owned it.

At the time it was the high class lounge to be.
The show Mad Men reminds me of it.

Remember the Venture Inn on route 40 just east of town. There was an ambulance on standby in the parking lot. There's a auto body shop there now.
The Stein Cafe is torn down now and is a park.
I'm sure everybody remembers Pat & Marthas in
Crystal Lake, still there. My dad played cards
there in the late 50's while I played the old
bowling machine.
