My mom used to hang out at the Ringside when it was at the old location...She's 54. Anybody still around from those days? Someone on another post mentioned Mary's place....Was that on Selma Road. If so, I remember going in there with my dad. As well as the Kenton Club, Pete's Place, Pleasant Corners, and the wagon Wheel. Most of those are defunct.Anyone remember others?

John's bar is torn down now. Stein is still standing but pretty nasty. shamrock has been closed for a long time. Just sitting there. Where was J & R? Never heard of the others but I bet when I mention them to my mom she will know. Do you remember the Anchor Inn? The Lantern that had the phone booth outside, The Elite, Rabbits, Blue Monday aka the Fox Den, Chuck's Rockin Ranch on Columbus Ave.?The Nite Owl, Dan and Dee's Cedar Pub, and Ruby Tuesdays?

Never heard of any of those names....How old would they be. I remember my dad saying something about a shooting at the Nite Owl. About how many years ago did that happen; any idea?

Chuck Henderson did the shooting. That was the old Night Owl in the Hausk Bldg. formerly the Atlas. J&R was on the corner of Pleasant and East. Lantern is still there and open. Chuck is dead, his son runs it now. It's a gay bar or very close. Rabbits was formerly the Cat& Fiddle, it's torn down now. Dan & Dees is an old folks home. Same old drunk in the same old seat day after day. Anchor Inn has been gone for years. They had a few killings also. If you go to the Stein don't hold the door open, they get pissed if you let all the flys out. Blue Monday , originally Arnolds is also torn down.

Blue Monday turned into the Fox Den and was just torn down recently...Lotsa memories in that back room ;) What was the bar adjacent to that Harleyman? Do you remember..it's called Un Mundo Cafe now but it has been Fat Boyz and before that it was Boris'. Can't remember the original name.
My mom said to ask if you remember Chris Titus, Neal Harkins, Schotsy and Bill from the ringside back in the original location???

It use to be a PDQ grocery store. I think it may have been a used furniture store or something after that for a while, then Boris bought it. On down the block was the Town grill and across the street was Clarkies, later bought by Eddie and Henry Jones and name changed to Agathas. Does mom remember a guy name Spanky? If Schotsy was a woman yes. I ran into her years later as the bar maid at the Bridge Inn in Jackson, Ohio. The other names escape me. I'm bad with names.

Yes Schotsy was a woman....Will ask her about Spanky. Thanks for the info. Interesting.
My mom's name is Cindy and her best friend back then was Jackie. They hung around the Wrights at that time I think. Ring any bells?

Further down on West Main there used to be a Big Bear grocery store and some little cafe or something on the corner. It was red brick I think. I'm only 28 so by the time I was around that place was closed. I remember the window said "Have you forgotten to eat?"
Do you know if that was a bar at one time?

I think it was called Longo's. It was run by Joe Longo. Burgers and stuff. Until I moved away, anyway. That was '67.

Mike is correct. The greasy burger joint was Joe Longo's. he let all us kids hang around there. he actually had a beer license in the 60's but quite selling it. he had all the fun machines, the HeMan that tested your hand strength and another one would shock the crap out of you. Cort Andersons barber shop was in the same bldg. next door was big bear, I still run into the old manager, Francis. next Poor Bobs now SideTrax across the street was the fire station and beside that in what is now C&n construction was Simindingers market. I could go on and on. I knew a lot of Cindys and jackies. those were popular names back then. Were they from the west end? Speaking of burgers. My buddys mom use to work at dads hamburger. Their hamburgers were boiled in oil.She would tell stories of the oil getting hard at night and the owner using a paint brush to brush the mouse broppings off the grease in the morning.

Thanks Mike and Harleyman...Great info guys!!
My mom says she knew a guy who's mom worked at Dad's Hamburgers..guys name was Mel.
Got lots of questions - What was on the corner of Selma and Sunset...Not Sexton's shop but the other corner.
Yep Harleyman my mom and Jackie hung around the west side; my mom was originally from Urbana and I think Jackie grew up on south/east side. I know her parents lived on Morton drive and she inherited the house.

First let me clear up several mistakes. The corner across from Sextons was houses. The dept store on Sunset was Wells, later became Charlie Starrs and then a church/ flea market then rorn down. Ontario's was on East Main, old store was behind Moses's garage new store became Roberts. I ran W. Main and was very familiar with the Beachcomer, Charlies and the Speedi Diner. Marge Crow, who owned Bills Lunch and the Owl bar when they were on the corner of Limestone and Pleasant, bought all of them. She first changed the name of Charlie's to Mar-rows then Beachcomer became Margies. Speedi stayed the same. I helped her a lot. Tended bar at all locations and even slung a few greasy burgers. Those were the days. Who remembers the Paradise on Clifton.

I can always count on you Harleyman!!!! How far down on Clifton was the Paradise? I always picture Charlie Starrs looking like the bar on Urban Cowboy. HAHA. It was so big in there! Was it a dance club or something? My mom mentioned a disco place out on 68 headed toward Urbana.....
