Although I want to make clear my support for the troops, I have to wonder if the flag was flown at half mast during the Second World War.

Lowering the flag to half-mast is not traditionally done during war. (Someone please correct me if I'm wrong on this.) As with the previous posters, I totally support the troops. In fact, I also support the war and the President. But I'm not sure if this is the way to go.

A symbolic gesture that has apparently lost its impact and perhaps its meaning: not the flag at half mast but the ticker-tape parade to celebrate victory over tyranny.

when the troops return to the U.S. they want to look at their flag flying high!
to be able to see what the were fighting for, a positive sight, the flag at half mast is a sign of morning.
send the troops the message we are proud of them and what they have accomplished, dont send them the message that was sent during vietnam,........you cant support the troops, but oppose the war???? you either support the troops and what they are doing or you are against the troops they need ful support of what the are doing, period!

We honor those troups by flyin' the flag high. The half staff flyin' can be done locally when the fallen hero returns home to his/her family.

Tattered flag? What kind of "patriot" flys a damaged flag outside his house? If it's several years old and in poor condition, retire that flag and get a new one.

I hate it when people don't observe proper flag respect. Its called the "Flag Code" people. Google it. Learn it.
