I was happy to see someone doing something postive for once instead of just sitting back and letting this get farther and farther out of control.

Here in Arizona we have Sherriff Joe which everyone has heard about. He seems to be the only LEO in the country doing anything about this problem. I support him 100% and have been to numerous round-ups in support.

I'm not sure how bad your problems are in the midwest, but here it is a war zone. Border patrol check points everywhere. South of Tucson there are helicoptors flying everyday. Numerous home raids everyday finds dozens of illegals all over the state. I was at Sonic the other day and the kid that wanted to take my order ask me in spanish, I drove off and shot a letter to corporate. WTF is going on?

I've lived in Arizona for over 30 years and seen parts of this state turn into a third world country. Don't let this happen to your state.

I Lived in Fremont Ne for 3 years and all i can say is, ITS ABOUT DAMN TIME. Fremont has a population of about 25,000 and an illegal population of between 5-10K and its growing every day. All I do know is if this BAN goes into effect, Hormel will be hiring.

There is an uncomfortable level of racism around this whole issue. Instead of focusing on real problems, like our failing economy, needless wars, asinine energy policy, etc., citizens get hoodwinked into believing the illegal immigrant red herring. Not only will our economy drastically suffer if the illegal immigrants are deported, we will lose that much cultural value and have that much less of an Hispanic presence in parts of the country that are in dire need of something other than white-bread culture.

Also, GMAN, you drove off from a Sonic drive-through because in an area heavily populated with Spanish-speaking citizens the kid who wanted to take your order asked you in Spanish? And then you wrote a letter to the company? You do realize that there are parts of most cities where most people speak Spanish -- most legal citizens, mind you, so don't get your panties in a knot -- and that's entirely normal and expected? Why did you just assume he was an illegal immigrant? How the HELL could you possibly know? Oh, you just assumed? That's why this illegal immigration frenzy is so troublesome, it stirs up racism when we should be doing everything to eradicate racism.

Anyway, I'm sure a lot of you just can't handle someone who looks, speaks, and does things differently than you...grow up and stop being such whining crybabies. The world doesn't, hasn't, and will never revolve around you.

I don't mind Spanish and do speak it fluently for social reasons and also I really care not to have a band of people planning to shove a burrito up my arse behind my back. The real issue is not about RACISM! This is about the ability to socially be part of a society that is not socialistic in nature due to ill values placed on past events like Illegal immigration, amnesty and the like such that would be deemed to US citizens as a trump card to the rights they are born with here. So before you think people want the world and the cosmos to revolve around them is just totally absurd when it comes to the real moral dilemma of this debatable situation that needs corrected. As always change is not required for my thoughts, you need to keep the six cents.

I believe in ONE NATIONAL LANGUAGE and support immigration. I think the reason people don't like it is because of the immigration aspect, not the immigrants. Am I racist? No. What I mean by one national language is that if let's say... an influx of immigrants from China came, then we'd need to learn their language and conform to it. Do you realize how costly it would be to adjust signs for Spanish, Chinese, AND English?

Converting America to the metric system (again) sounds like a better idea, but that's just me...

This is the way I see it. If I am to go to another country and expect to find my way around I need to know their language. If they come to mine they should learn mine. Period. Also the older the immigrant is the less likely they are to even want to learn my language. Now when you are wanting to become a teacher in most states you have to know spanish. That's alright. Execpt for the fact that the spainish taught in schools is different than the spanish the students are speaking. Also, it angers me that my children are going to be forced to learn a language that they may not want to learn, or fail because they cannot speak it correctly. I have tried to learn the language and just physically could not form the words in my mouth correctly. So I would have failed a required course. Also, in high school where I came from you were required to learn a foreign language so then what are my kids supposed to learn spainish (with the chance of failing) and then be forced to learn a second language? Now don't get me wrong I am all for it IF that is what my kids truly want to learn, but I DON'T want it to be crammed down their throats.
