I know this is semi-old, but for anyone who visits this page: I am a 21 year old female who smokes a lot in my free time. I have also been one of my employers BEST employees for three years. I just recently quit (with a THREE week notice) because I am moving out of state. Do NOT tell me that smoking weed in your free time messes with your work ethic. I am never late, always at least 15 minutes early. I never call in. I go above and beyond in my job. It is completely stereotypical to say that people who smoke weed have bad work ethic. It is ridiculous that it is illegal (A) and also ridiculous that someone asks a simple question and gets attacked.(B) People who are against weed are so misinformed. Not really their fault when they are young,(blame DARE)but if you are old enough to jump someone online, your are old enough to check your fucking facts. Yes, I said "fucking" its a WORD made up by humans, I'm not going to censor myself for your benefit. Like they all said, weed is the least harmful drug there is. ASPIRIN and CAFFEINE are more harmful. And by the way, speeding is illegal too, and I bet you do that on a daily basis...A-thank-ya.

Well as I said, I quit because I am moving. I was there for years and no one ever found out. Even if my old boss found out now, it would not erase the fact that I was their best employee. Her caring whether or not I smoke was not the point. The point is you can be a great employee and still smoke. Goddamn.

I have absolutely no reason to lie, and you have no reason to believe I am lying. I am through trying to convince you, it is your right to believe as you do. I've said my piece.

The fact is that drug users have higher absenteeism, greater incidence of theft and generally lower productivity not to mention a much greater incidence of being involved in accidents. This is completely false. What about the lawyers and doctors I know who partake. I myself am a frequent user......I work 50 hours a week in a management position, have obtained two degrees while working (and using), and take care of my home/family. Other than partaking of this activity (marijuana) I am an upstanding citizen. I do not even have parking tickets, speeding tickets, nor vehicle accidents on my record. I also have both a retirement and savings accounts. I am a successful 37 year old adult. Those of us who are such people, and believe me there are a greater number than you realize, are responsible people and citizens. Unfortunately for us who are in these ranks the slackers and hooligans have given use a bad image and reputation. So please before making statements think first. You have just made completely false statements.

I hate drug tests too. Cooperations should not be allowed to dictate what people do with their bodies! I work from home now and they can't tell me to pee in a cup for shit! My friend was able to hook me up with a Social Media Manager position and I am one happy camper. I'm not rich but I make a decent living

You should check it out if you need a steady source of income.

Actually Oh My is correct the evidence is there take the time to look it up the fact is drug and alcohol abuse in the work place leads to lower production increase in accidents and people who use are more likely to claim on accidents I was just reading all about it and all the proven statistics just because you may not agree dose not mean your option is correct the facts don't lie

Privately owned companies have both the right as well as the responsibility to maintain a safe and productive workplace. Public agencies are tasked with being good stewards of public funds, and as such should have rigid drug testing programs to prevent waste, fraud and abuse.

Whether this is directly due to the effects of the drugs being used, or the general lack of character that afflicts drug users is subject to debate.
It is very true that a person has the absolute right to refuse drug testing, unless said testing is a condition of probation or parole. It is also just as true that no individual person can claim a "right" to any specific job or employment status. If you want the job, but it requires that you refrain from using heroin, the choice is yours to make.
Alternatively, you could risk your own financial livelihood, start your own business and employ nothing but stoners if that is what you want.

What a person does on their own time is their business and their business only. If what they do effects how they perform at work then that's understandable. But if they do their job and are honest, no one has the right to dehumanize them.
